Jefferson Starship, 1980 (Before the were just Starship) - I was 12. A local Kansas City band, Shooting Star, opened for them. My Uncle who was 18 at the time took me. We got high in the car before we went in. It was not my first time. Good times, man, good times.

vodka: I have never been to concert and don't ever plan to. Don't get me wrong because I love live music, I just can't get into the whole herd thing.

The herd thing is because people who like live music go to concerts. I don't always like crowds but I like people watching and live music. Enjoyment of music out weighs dislike of crowds. If I'm not in a crowd mood I hang back. Like I did at Feist on Monday.

TMBG was the first concert I saw too. 1990. Same congressional district... it's like we're dopplegangers.

Where did you see them? I saw them in 1994 at Irving Plaza.

A few years later I actually saw them at an in-store at the old Tower Records in Paramus.

this. I don't like huge crowds either but it is always worth it to see a band you love play live. a live recording is no where near the same. The atmosphere is better than you might think...but I have been the guy leaving the show through the turnstile saying "mooooooooo. mooooooo."

oh hell yes...I keep every ticket stub for every show. And if there isn't a ticket, I will keep the wristband or whatever. Some shows of course i don't have anything for some reason, and I know I lost one ticket stub. I have right around 100 ticket stubs.

But the shows are fewer and far between these days.

Saw the Beach Boys play a free show on 4th of July when I was a little kid. Also, saw Bachman Turner Overdrive play a free show. Not sure which one was first.

The first real show I paid to see was Deftones/Godsmack. Sadly, Godsmack was the headliner, even though I really was there to see Deftones.

Before they came on stage, The Who's Baba O'Riley was playing through the sound system. Very appropriate.

First one I remember was Elton John, probably around 76 or 77. He was doing concerts with just a piano and I remember it was really good. I also remember I had to get dressed up in a suit (I was probably 5 or 6 at the time) and I nearly peed my pants.

But after a bunch of punk rock shows in little places for free (including Husker Du) The first concert I got in line and paid for the ticket for was....

Genesis - Invisible touch tour.

Farking awesome concert. Say what you will about Phil Collins, Genesis puts on a SHOW. Or did...

And I'd have to say that the coolest concert I'd ever gone to where I wasn't taking psychedelics (Grateful Dead, I'm looking at you) was the Paul McCartney concert I went to with my Dad. They did a bit about having the fire martial come on stage to allow them to do concussive fireworks as a part of "live and let die" and it was totally worth it!

threedingers: Gordon Lightfoot at Massey Hall, around 1975.

I saw Gordon c. 1989 in an old opera hall. It was completely surreal. I was 19, higher than a kite and chain smoking, surrounded by people twice as old, in suits and ties and dresses, drinking wine. We all politely clapped after each song. Gordon was awesome though.
