some punk rock show in some tiny denton bar, admission was a dollar, and it had 6 local punk bands. I was 13. I was nervous about being cool, so I died my hair red the day before. it was so hot in the bar, that I started to sweat and red dye was streaming down my face. i realized then that I was going to have to accept that either, I was either going to have a very, very hard life, or I was going to have to accept the fact that I will never be 'cool'.

first real concert with a real band that wasn't a festival? maybe lords of acid or marilyn manson.

/ although, the most recent concert I went to was the best I've been to, peter murphy. he can put on a show. and, he did a bunch of bauhaus stuff.
// normally, though, I just see jazz or blues stuff every weekend.

First concert I ever attended: Triumph headlining with Blue Oyster Cult opening.
Best concert I ever attended: Tie between Peter Gabriel at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck (co-headliners... they alternated every night), also at the Spectrum. Both shows were very different and very outstanding.

Stranded On The Planet Dumbass: Steppenwolf

But a band we had never heard of opened and just blew our minds......

Alice Cooper

He hung himself on a gallows in 1970 as an opening act, WTF indeed!

Ha, I saw his Welcome to my Nightmare concert in Detroit several years later.

Your story reminds me of going to a concert to see Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson and seeing the opening act and thinking 'who the fark is John Cougar?'.

My buddies followed their band back to the hotel and partied all night with them.

I did not :-(

Saw the Foo Fighters on the Color and the Shape tour at "old" Lupo's in Providence. So many great bands came through that tiny venue. The new Lupo's is infinitely nicer but doesn't have the intimacy of being almost at the stage anywhere in the building.
