I live in Waukesha. I grew up here. The teachers in WI need to pay 'their fair share'. And shame on Milwaukee county teacher's union who voted for LESS teachers instead of LESS benefits for themselves.

Unions, GTFO.

Apparently the teachers they have aren't so hot...

I agree 100%. I miss the good old days of right-to-work and union busting. Ah the days where an honest working man could work 12+ hours a day for just enough money for a one room apartment and a loaf of bread. Good times.

WombatControl: That's the reason why teacher pay is not correlated with teacher quality - because teacher pay is not correlated with how good a teacher is.

Except that job performance is so strongly correlated with job experience and level of education--the two factors most teacher unions negotiate to base teacher pay on--that job experience and level of education are the two most widely known bases for hiring in the entire country. And since there is no objective, fair way to measure teacher performance in the way you're talking about, job experience and level of education are the two best proxies for job performance.

What really raises the right's hackles is that there's a group of people in the country who've successfully negotiated away management's right to base their hiring, pay, promotion, and termination decisions on who sucks hardest on management's dick. It drives you absolutely nuts that some people aren't subject to arbitrary authoritarian whims, and so you've built up this whole political movement to destroy it.

Or I can look at NYC, Boston or Philly and realize that hey, maybe unions aren't so bad and Detroit and Cleveland have a myriad of problems that can't be fully blamed on unions.

But if you want to stick to simple talking points. That might not help huh?

my brother drove a forklift for GM for 20+ years. Made 85,000 to 90,000 a year, not base but with double and triple time from working holidays and whatnot.

so you really think a forklift operator in Deutschland is making 131,000 Euros. You must be taking too many oxy's.

It's not a lie and your anecdote doesn't prove anything.

In 2010, over 5.5 million cars were produced in Germany, twice the 2.7 million built in the United States. Average compensation (a figure including wages and employer-paid benefits) for autoworkers in Germany was 48.97 Euros per hour ($67.14 US), while compensation for auto work in the United States averaged $33.77 per hour, or about half as much as in Germany, all according to 2007 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It's all related. The GOP platform is about removing all barriers to business so that the GOP's corporate backers are unconstrained in their pursuit of profit.

Yeah. It would be terrible if the economy was to pick up...

And there it is. Trickle down for the win, right?!

Despite the fact that higher relative middle class incomes, higher union participation, and higher top tier income tax levels all contributed to 30 years or so of economic strength following WWII. But hey, we'll lower taxes on the wealthy, crush unions, and crush the middle class, and the economy will just take off like a rocket amirite?

Funny, liberals only have problems with choices they don't like. You are the most intolerant, fascist people on this earth. So of course, Gov. Walker is just the worst person on earth, because he advocates CHOICE! FREEDOM! You are among the dumbest among us, and I pray to the One True and Living God that none of you liberal, progressive tools ever get control of this country.

Right to MURDER a baby who had no say in his/her creation? SURE! HAVE AT IT! WE'LL JUST CALL YOU A 'FETUS' OR 'LUMP' TO TAMP DOWN THE GUILTY WE FEEL FOR MURDERING YOU!

Right to work? HELL NO. ONLY UNIONS CONTROL PEOPLE WHO WORK!

Right to choose the best school? HELL NO. IF THAT HAPPENS, THEN THE GREAT TEACHERS' UNION WILL BE WEAKENED AND KIDS MIGHT ACTUALLY LEARN! WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!

Yes, you are wonderful flowers of liberty, you liberals.

Maybe if you had spent a little more time paying attention to those teachers instead of being angry at the unions you would have learned that it's FEWER teachers and FEWER benefits. Fewer is used when the item you are describing can be counted--assuming you can count higher than potato, of course.

Employment Practices claims (including wrongful termination) are killing the job market.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't PA an employment-at-will state? There is no wrongful termination statute, is there? All employees can do is allege discrimination, etc.
