I do not know how active I will be this week. RL just kicked me upside the head. My Mom has stage 1 bladder cancer, non-invasive. And they can't do the treatment right away because the bacterium they use is backordered. WTF!

So she is being upbeat, and I am crying.

Ok. Um. I has a very dumb question. And my face is crimson for even typing this, but...

When a male cat is neutered, does he keep his harbals? Reason I ask is that my cat, Simon, was neutered (at least I hope he was or I was charged for nothing!) and he has his, but some pics I see here and elsewhere of kittehs that have been neutered don't have theirs. I haz teh derp wif these things.

I should note that Simon was the kitteh my husband found at work and they all chipped in to have him taken to the vet for shots, neutered, etc.

There. I asked.

/runs out of room giggling and embarrassed.

Aw, thanks guys.... *orders round of drinks*

I've just been finding it really difficult to keep up with Caturday lately. If I can't get my foot in the door on Thursday night, I just give up. There are so many different conversations going on and on. I would like to respond to every birthday/noob/sad event/congratulatory event/request for advice/etc., but there's so much, and if I don't respond to everyone (because everyone's stuff is important and it's all deserving of acknowledgement), I will feel like a dick for leaving people out. I could just post funny pictures, but if there is a lot of serious sad already in the thread, it seems very insensitive not to acknowledge that before posting totally unrelated goofy warped ridiculous images. By the time I get to this point each week, my sense of humour has climbed out the bathroom window.

THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM OF ANYONE OR ANYTHING YOU ARE POSTING. This is my personal crap that I have to work out for myself. I love that Caturday is a warm community of nice people sharing common interests. But the part I like best is reading and creating funny things. When I don't feel funny, I can't do that, and I don't know where I fit in anymore. But I'm sure I will adapt.

My sincere compliments to everyone who makes and posts funny blanks and lols every week. Keep doing it! Make me feel goofy! That's the part I like best. :)

Sorry for disappearing. I guess I just needed a bit of space.

Not a dumb question at all. Neutering procedures differ from place to place and change drastically (IMHE) as procedures evolve. For instance, Merlin had to stay at the Vet for 2 days after his surgery, and 15 years later Dragon got snipped on my kitchen table in less than 5 minutes with no shaving, no post-op drugs, no cone, no special litter requirements, etc....and he was just fine.

Usually, neutering a male cat means surgical removal of the testicles. As valnt9 pointed out, sometimes the same objective can be obtained by simply severing the vas deferens (which is how hoomin men get "snipped") ... so in either case, the cat may either retain his testicles, or simply still have a very large (albeit empty) scrotum after the surgery.

/ Now I feel sorta weird (and a bit queasy) that I know that much about it :(

As far as I'm concerned (and I think I can speak for a bunch of the Caturday regulars) it's just nice to see you check in. No pressure, everyone unfortunately has a RL that seems to get in the way from time to time.

I would check with the vet to get written proof he was sterilized if he still appears to have all the equipment. some towns demand proof the animal is not able to procreate.
