Are there not injuries in MLB 12?

downstairs: Are there not injuries in MLB 12?

Here. let me RTFA for you:

"Not shown here, because I didn't have the capture software running at the time, is the post-play animation. As much as I wanted to see panicked trainers and dugout personnel running to my motionless body, maybe jamming a towel into my broken and bleeding face, that didn't happen. I was helped up and I shook my head as Matt Vasgersian and Dave Campbell commented generically on my injury. I get the feeling The Show wants to include this type of play for verisimilitude, but doesn't deliver the actual outcome either because Major League Baseball doesn't want to see it in a game, or it would rate a violent content descriptor in the ESRB rating."

You're welcome.

So a film clip from a video game is considered sports?

(It's amusing they programmed it in)

Yep. Same reason "NFL Blitz" (on Nintendo 64) lost the NFL logo because it was too violent and they didn't want people associating the video game violence with real-life, or assuming NFL was ok with it. They only got the name back (they now have a NFL Blitz on XBL arcade) after agreeing to get rid of after-play beatdowns that made the franchise so beloved to begin with. You still have hard hits, but everyone gets up and are perfectly fine afterward.

There was an old version of NHL hockey where fights would actually break out. It made the game a lot more fun than the current PG versions.

Ummm most hockey games allow you to fight. Hell NHL '12 lets you pull the goalie out to fight.

NGS Blades of Steel actually had fighting as an integral part of the game.

So...let me get this straight: The NFL got their panties in a knot over the seeming appearance that their name on a game implied their acceptance of digital violence? Well, THAT'S interesting.

And now, back to your regularly-scheduled cover-ups of injury bounties, player domestic-abuse trials, and this week's 40-year-old retired linesman who made sure to shoot himself in the chest.

Heck, you could fight in the Ice Hockey for the NES.

Yep. After the name was dropped Midway said fark it, released an M-rated game (Blitz: The League) and threw everything from steroid abuse to basically on-field murders (you could snap opponent's necks). They also threw quite a few jabs at the NFL like naming a rival quarterback "Mike Mexico" (Michael Vick supposedly used the name Ron Mexico during STD testing). In the sequel you could have a prison football match and if you injured Mike, you got the "Pitbull Payback" achievement.

I saw Roberto Clemente do that to some moran who had tried to brush him back. Didn't hit him in the head though.

Way to disappoint there, subby.

One thing I do love about The Show is that hitting a batter will occasionally result in the batter charging the mound while his teammates try to hold him back before he finally gets free and sprints toward the pitcher. You don't actually get to see the fight, but when it cuts back to the game you'll have to sub in new players for the players who were ejected.

Halliday got nailed in the temple about four years ago. Ball bounced all the way to the third baseman. Didn't miss his next start but you could tell he was farked up

I always loved that you only went to the box if you lost the fight,.

2012-05-10 10:18:36 PM
Man, I remember trying to get as many people as possible in the penalty box at once in 'Ice Hockey' (I think I got to 3). If I remember right, it was a little harder to start a fight in Blades of Steel (or maybe I wasn't as motivated because the clock runs faster)

That happened to Nick Blackburn a few years ago when the Twins played the Yankees. Bobby Abreu thought he killed him as he went to first.

Seeing that live on tv, I thought he was dead at first. Not from the initial impact, but the way he drove his head into the ground awkwardly. Thought he might've broken his neck. Scary as shiat.

It's the reason that fighting in NHL games was terrible for years, they didn't want it to be too good since it would promote real fighting, but they couldn't just remove it all together since it would take away from the realism of the game. Instead, they just had really crappy fighting mechanics until about 2009.

NHL Hitz (don't remember which year) made fighting so integral that if you lost the fight, your character was disqualified from the rest of the game. It certainly made the fights more exciting.

Not that rare... and it sucks when you square one up with RISP and it bonks off the pitcher and they make the out... and then he just gets up.

I'm a loser.

Might not have had to -- it seems that moment hastened the end of his career (wiki):

Štefan earned significant notoriety when he missed and fell on a breakaway towards an empty net against the Edmonton Oilers on January 4, 2007,[2] which allowed a play to develop where fellow Czech Aleš Hemský scored with two seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. The Edmonton goal tied the game 5-5, but Dallas then won 6-5 in a shootout.

After Štefan's contract expired in 2007, the Dallas Stars chose not to re-sign him. Štefan signed with SC Bern of the Nationalliga A, but he only played three games for them before retiring in October 2007, largely due to a serious hip injury, the latest of several chronic injuries that plagued his career.[3] He is currently a player agent in Laguna Beach, California, and a coach at Orange County Ice Palace.[1]

The best video game one was that soccer game glitch where the goalie ended up humping the offensive player for about 5 seconds straight right before he scored a goal. I'm pretty sure I saw that here.

The absolute funniest few seconds of sport are among the many gif animations created by Something Awful goons from a clip of that vile spitting hun coont El Hadji Diouf being knocked arse over tit by a tackle from diet hun thug Ian Black.
