I'm going to see them on Saturday, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Except that I'm the only one to reply so far...

So.

Just saw them last night.
It was a good show, but the first 3/4 was a little lighter than I expected.
The last couple of songs were pretty heavy.

Are you kidding?? He's very funny and personable. Ever listened to any live stuff? He's always reminded me of Dave Grohl.

I was also at the show last night. I'm more of a mastodon guy though, so I left about 3 songs into Opeth. I respect them, but i have to be in a certain mood for them.

I want to see Opeth but can't afford it lately. I actually fell asleep at a Mastadon concert, briefly. Fell asleep or passed out.

The nice thing about an Opeth song is that you can step out, have a smoke, get something to eat, write a book, publish that book, drive cross country promoting that book, and come back in time to catch the next song.

Opeth...you get your moneys worth.

I missed 'em on the Mastodon tour, despite them being two of my fave bands - I've just seen them both so much - but when I saw the Heritage tour, Opeth didn't play ONE heavy song... :(

Mikael's quasi-broken, Swedish-tinged English cracks me up every time I watch an interview of him. He may be the most unintentionally hilarious musician in the world.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery so that he can continue to deliver the lulz. And the metal.

I'll never forget my reaction when I first heard "Damnation".

Admittedly it grew on me, but at the time, I was pretty disappointed, just because I was expecting something MUCH heavier.

Akerfedlt writes some truly awe inspiring metal riffs, and I'm not one prone to being terribly over-complimentary.

I'm definitely glad he wasn't badly hurt.

If you were expecting something heavy I could understand being somewhat disappointed. But in its own right it is an absolutely phenomenal album.

This. Amazing range. Imagine any other metal band doing that. Enslaved and their ilk could approach it, but nowhere near as authoritatively. Alice In Chains did something similar in Jar of Flies, and Sap...

Ihsahn's solo stuff comes close as well. Not too terribly surprising when you consider the fact that he and Mikael did a tune together.

I went and saw Opeth with Mastodon in Philly and loved it, but I'm one of those Opeth fans that likes the heavy stuff as well as the lighter, dreary fare, so the last few songs where he broke out the growling again was an unexpected treat.

Two tours ago, when they were touring on Watershed, they opened with Heir Apparent. I don't think I've ever had goosebumps as bad as when that song really kicked in.

Back around 2000 Opeth toured with Nevermore. I love Nevermore, at the time hadn't heard of Opeth. So me, a friend, a co-worker, and his gf bought tickets for a friday night show. We left about 2:30 (from San Diego), got there about 4 to pick up the tix, planning to have dinner and get our hotel room. As we pick up the tix I hear Nevermore. Turns out the damned show started at 1 PM, we had completely missed Opeth (whom my co-worker wanted to see), and Nevermore was doing encores. I never felt so ripped off in all my life, nothing ever said nor implied the show started at 1.

/ she was hot
// he was an ugly ass dude who got all the hot broads
/// saw opeth a couple years later locally, they totally rock
//// still haven't seen Nevermore :(

The way rumors started was pretty scary. First it was a car accident and he was admitted due to a severe head injury. Then a broken arm report surfaced. But it wasn't that bad really and Mikael is one of the funniest frontman you'll see live.

His sense of humor is awesome. Here's his whole post on facebook

"Hi guys! I'm writing from beyond the grave. Seriously, I was not in a car crash and I haven't broken my arm. All that happened is I hit my head in mastodons tour bus as I was getting a new pair of (red) underwear out from my suitcase. Wish the story was more rock and roll, believe me. Anyways I split my head open down to the skullbone and had to be taken to the emergency. They gave me a bunch of shots in the wound, cleaned me up and stapled my head shut with 8 metal staples. Head is sore and if I smile it feels like the wound is gonna burst open again, but I'll be on stage by tomorrow again. I feel extremely disappointed that we couldn't play at the myth in Minneapolis, but paramedics told me I couldn't. We will reschedule the show for our next trip to the USA. So all rumors of me being in a car crash are false. I did crash my head into a car though, well...a bus really. Sorry for disappointing our fans in Minneapolis but I hope you understand. See you next time. Best. Mikael"

They were with High on Fire and Nachtmystium and the internet is telling me Baroness might have been on the bill as well but I don't remember seeing them.
