What if she was a wet nurse and it was on the cover of a magazine with an 8 year old? Would there be charges then?

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Anyone not let their son breastfeed due to the weird sexual interplay involved?

My ex wife was like that with our son. She said she felt weird because it felt kinda good and kinda sexual when she did breast feed so she pumped for a while, then stopped early.

Speaker2Animals: Lorelle: One of my aunts breastfed all 5 of her kids until they were age 4. All of said kids are now adults and married with kids of their own. All are college graduates; one is a teacher, another is a doctor.

I have no idea if any of my female cousins breastfed their kids.

Do they teach correlation vs. causation in college?

Apparently not to Farkers, who seem to think that if there IS a correlation, it means there definitely is NO causation. Around here you'd think that having a correlation is a death blow to any argument with all the knee-jerk correlation != causation sheeple dittoheads.

theknuckler_33: Fear_and_Loathing: theknuckler_33: Common sense. If you wouldn't give them a bottle, don't give them the tit. It's pretty simple really.

Common hate of breast feeding. It was how the system was designed, works for everyone, has some short term benefits and is easy at 3am. I have an issue if they can get on a chair, but it isn't my kid. A fairly attractive woman, with a giant kid standing on a chair with her boob out and a kid suckling was meant to be controversial.

There is nothing wrong with breast feeding, in public or not. The lengths people take it to may or may not be an issue.

We seem to be talking about two different things. I haven't the slightest problem with breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding beyond the age of 2 (max), I have a major problem with. You said something about not caring if someone does it at 16. I'm sure that was a monstrous exaggeration, but my point is similar. There is a very definable age where breastfeeding is no longer appropriate and it is around the time that the kid has a, more or less, full set of teeth. That is not ok and it is not ok to be ok with it either.

I agree with you. Yes, I went over the top. Mine did not make it to two. My wife breast pumping on RT 91 was a picture tho. Lol

You should watch the NatGeo Taboo episode that featured an adult baby. Normal at work, at home, he had a giant crib and high chair.

Yep, here's the article talking about her adopted 5 year old breast feeding. What makes it so creepy to me is that she didn't even adopt the kid until he was 3. She brought home a toddler and stuck a tit in his mouth.

ace in your face: theknuckler_33: I'm not some kind of Sears advocate, but I'll take that claim with a grain of salt for now. If it turns out to be true, I'm pretty skeptical of that approach. Maybe I'm an exception, but parenting doesn't seem like rocket science to me. Keep them healthy, start early on motor skills and education, spend a lot of time with them, lots of hugs and I-love-you's, be consistent with discipline, and if you are a two parent household... show a united front and don't fight in front of the kids. When the kid has a basic set of teeth, time for regular food.

Wholeheartedly agree. Except the teeth part. My daughter got her first 2 by 2 months. Had 16 by 9 months. She looked like one of those talking babies with the superimposed adult mouth.

Well, I'm just going by memory with my kid. She was over 2 months premature, so was behind the curve on many developmental levels. She's 9 now and completely normal (well... 'normal'). Time frames obviously can be months early/late for various things. But seriously... if your kid is over 2 and breastfeeding is a normal activity (e.g. you are not in the weening process), that's really really bizarre. It is bad and they should feel bad. The woman in TFA is breastfeeding a 4 and a 5 year old... she should be seeing a psychologist.

Here's some exact quotes: The AAP recommends "exclusive breastfeeding for about 6 months, followed by continued breastfeeding as complementary foods are introduced, with continuation of breastfeeding for 1 year or longer as mutually desired by mother and infant."

WHO says "Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond."

But of course those of you who claim that babies should be fully weaned at six months or that a two year old who breastfeeds is creepy know sooooo much more than the leading pediatricians in the US and the world.

/Not planning to breastfeed that long.
//Not judging those that do though.

Ummmm, really? What is that age? Our society is generally founded on a Puritanical/Corportized background and so, for a very long time, it was wrong for a woman to breast feed in public. Not to mention the whole, "bottle feeding is better than breast feeding" propaganda from the 50s. So I have to ask, if there is a very definable age, what is it? What is it based on? The fact that you feel icky because some woman nurses her 4 year old?

Grow up. Really. Boobs are meant to feed children. I would be very very very reluctant (and so should all of you) to legally define when a mother HAS TO weene her kids.

Jim from Saint Paul: Cup_O_Jo: Once your kid has teeth...it should not be breastfeeding.. And doing it till they are 5 and 6 is going to give them antisocial disorder and confuse them about breasts as a sexual organ also.

My 11 month old son had a tooth at 4 months, 6 total at 5 months. Now, he has 8.

I would suggest your opinion has flaws.

To be clear, this biatch is crazy.

First two kids were off the boob at 14 and 12 months respectively. If my pediatrist says "no milk till at least one year old" and my wife chooses to do breastmilk instead of formula (with doctors approval for that as well)... I'm just saying our pediatrician is more right then Fark.

not sure about the obsession over boobs. In many cultures a woman's boob is not look upon as something sexual...akin to like her elbow or her feet. Men have boobs too.. just not as full is all.

Your point is clearer now. I didn't say you said 1 tooth. You said teeth.

I can understand your thought process. I figure that through at least 2 years old you can breastfeed asumming you are seeing your doctor and they are happy with all the nutrition the kid is getting as a whole.

I am a supporter of boob equality. The tyranny of the T-Shirt should come to an end.

Women should be able to go topless in all the same situations as men.

I want to see if the obesity rate drops after that is allowed though. We need to track it somehow. I really want to see the experiment play out.

I already stated that I breast fed until I was 3. I am not deranged nor do I remember it in any way. My mom is a normal loving mother who didn't want to cut me off but at 3 she decided it was enough. I've read about this topic, and even children who breastfeed until they are 5 or 6 don't really remember it later. It is a comfort to the child. Most people who are breastfeeding past 1 arentdoing it for the nutrition or for their own selfishness but because it is a comfort to their child. I think you are way too freaked out about it. I think it's weird. I think the people are a little out of touch. I don't think it's the right way to do things. but I certainly don't think that most people who do it have a psychological problem. (the biatch who did it on. The cover of time I exclude from the previous statement).

I breastfed for a year and that was quite enough. One day I said, OK, you're eating enough solid food, you can drink out of a sippy cup, my boobs are done here. And we stopped.

And then I could smoke pot again, yay!

I knew a girl who breastfed her kid until age 5. He could ask for it, unbutton her shirt himself, and compare it [verbally] to store-bought milk. Still, the kid was the smartest 5 year old I'd ever seen. We may find in the near future, that extended breastfeeding does more good than just immune system related things. Wouldn't surprise me.
