I hope there are more gay people now than ever. Let's all go gay! C'mon be gay everyone!

People who use their religeon to spread hatred and bigotry are terrorists.

Bloody William: Mrtraveler01: Critz is in Murtha's old district and it's pretty conservative for PA standards (I should know, I have relatives in that district).

I can only hope that in the next election, Critz...

[csi-miami.edogo.com image 300x300]

Takes massive damage.

I'm guessing you mean primaried? Because otherwise it'd fall in the Tea Party hands.

Which I'm sure the union members in that district will love!

coeyagi: FTA: In a vote of 245 to 171, the members "voted to stop the Justice Department from using taxpayer funds to actively oppose DOMA - the Clinton-era law defining marriage as between a man and a woman that the Obama administration stopped enforcing in February 2011."

It seems odd to me that doing nothing to enforce a law would be costly to taxpayers, or even more so than enforcing it, but seriously, if you know how the lack-of-enforcement of DOMA is raping our coffers, please, chime in.

No shiat. The stop wasting money by not doing anything part kinda had me scratching my head too.

This has been such an amusing shiatstorm. My favorite was that pic from fox nation yesterday declaring "obama flip flops, declares war on marriage." until they changed it about an hour later. Very entertaining. With an unlikeable candidate, draconian views on women, and an open intolerance of homosexuals how the helldoes the GOP feel they have a chance in hell?

Bloody William: cmunic8r99: Also, here's the list of Republicans that voted against their party. I'm actually surprised that Terry is on that list.

I'm more surprised Jerry Lewis is a Republican congressman!

I thought he retired from public office after being Vice President.

Because a large part of the country is unlikeable, has draconian views on women, and an open intolerance of homosexuals.

I turned gay the moment President Obama made his announcement yesterday, and I've had sex with twelve college guys, three elementary-school boys, a couple of Border Collies, and my toaster since then. I think I picked up the GonnoSyphiHerpeHIV somewhere along the line and gave it to everyone else since I didn't use condoms with any of them.

I think it's a process of elimination. They've eliminated all other demographics, so the mouth-breathers are the only ones left to try and please.

In a vote of 245 to 171, the members "voted to stop the Justice Department from using taxpayer funds to actively oppose DOMA - the Clinton-era law defining marriage as between a man and a woman that the Obama administration stopped enforcing in February 2011." Sixteen Democrats voted in favor of the measure, while 7 Republicans opposed it.

Party|Yea|Nay
Dem:16-164
Rep:229-7

I'm going to echo kingoomieiii above. There are 16 Dems I want replaced.

Still, the majority are Republicans. So we can safely say they are more bigotry

Conversely, there are 7 Republicans who might be worth keeping.

Late to the party but..... I keep hearing it refered to as Obamas personal opinion IRT gay marriage....and his political opinion is that hes leaving it up to the states to decide.....is that accurate?

Would I be in error to claim this is just more pandering from the greatest politician ever?

Yes, it's accurate. But your pandering claim would be R-etarded because:

a) he is proposing no legislation to get their vote
b) he is not telling anyone how shiatty Romney's record / opinions are on LGBT issues
c) his announcement basically happened after pressure from LGBT groups
d) there is no guarantee that this will help him politically. some bible-thumping blacks may stay home because of this.

Well, he's already officially supported the Respect for Marriage Act which would repeal both Section 2 (states don't need to recognize same-sex couples' marriages if they don't want to) and Section 3 (federal government doesn't recognize same-sex couples' marriages), and he's ordered the DOJ to not defend Section 3 of DOMA in court. He can't just unilaterally order all the states to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples as that would clearly be unconstitutional under the anti-comandeering principle. And unless there's an appropriate spending hook, he can't withhold funds to states that don't recognize same-sex couples' marriages. The only way marriage equality can be declared the law of the land is by a Loving v. Virginia type of decision from SCOTUS, and that seems unlikely given that it would be completely counter to judicial restraint when the current cases with odds of reaching the court deal with equal recognition of marriages under federal law and stripping a right that a class of people previously had.

Pandering is the act of expressing one's views in accordance with the likes of a group to which one is attempting to appeal. The term is most notably associated with politics.

No, I'm pretty sure it's pandering.

It is, Harrisburg itself is pretty redneck, so you can imagine what the areas outside the 'city' are like. I have friends that live in Dauphin county.

Thanks for the textbook definition. The real world isn't so simple. THERE IS NO MOTIVE. Prove to me that this will help him politically. Blacks and conservatives will be pissed and the LGBT community is happy. At best this is zero sum for him.

Secondly, you GAVE A DEFINITION. You didn't prove that he wants to appeal to them (because he'd have to do so at the cost of other constituents' votes).

Your argument is akin to Obama believes man-made climate change is real because he wants to pander to... humans who breathe air.
