I'm guessing he's doing it for very close to the same reason he's done it every other time. You know, for the past decade-plus.

Yeah, you don't want to go to Florida in August. I learned that lesson as a kid at Disney World.

I wonder how the right wing will try to characterize this as not fair, and play the victim in this somehow.

Deneb81: But seriously, republicans really don't know comedy do they?

It's like Mel Brooks said. Tragedy is when I get a paper cut. Comedy is when a liberal falls in an open manhole and dies.

Aren't you supposed to go to the tropical paradise in the winter when it's shiatty up north? Not sure I get the point of going on vacation in the summer; that's the only time the upper half of the US is even bearable.

Aaaanyway, moving on!

I don't see how this is surprising. The Daily Show is always on-site for major events like national conventions (where there are actual things happening, not the DNC convention). This is a regular thing.

Tampa's a nice city, really. In the winter or spring. Miss having me a big bowl of grits.

Neat. I didn't think it would be interesting because it's just an incumbent reassertion.

The downtown's awesome. Probably one of the few places you can actually ride a bike without getting whacked.

That said, it's possible to hear "Hotel California" at least 3 or 4 times on the radio like nothing's out of place.

This is one of the things I miss, actually. They have a dolphin watching tour where you go out on the bay and look for wild dolphins to interact with. It's pretty cool because it's right next to the cruise terminals, so when one of the big ships is going out, you'll be up close to watch them launch themselves into the air as the ship is moving.

Also, petting stingrays is pretty cool.

The only clearly superior aquarium I've been to is the one at fisherman's wharf in San Francisco.

I enjoyed Ybor City the last time I was down there, although I've been told since that it's a terrible tourist trap and there are nicer parts of the city.

Always loved the work trips there, glad there was always a departing flight at the end.

And I bet TDS will be the best and most relevant coverage of both conventions. That fact gives me a sad.

Try Hyde Park next time. Ybor is okay, but channelside is better for bars and women, and Hyde Park is just better for everything.

Jon Stewart is going to Florida in August because he:

a) obviously has never been to Florida in August, the month when Floridans and Parisians leave town en masse;
b) it's his job;
c) there's nobody else in the media who can do the job except for Steve Colbert, who is coincidentally going to Florida in August;
d) all of the above.

When c) is not the correct answer, try d). Even on Fark.

The Jew migration is an awesome thing to watch. Especially when they go to New York City in the late fall to stock up on bagels for the winter.

I haven't been there in like a decade but I used to love the Castle for the goth girls and Masquerade for the bands. I heard it's gone to shiat recently though.

No, Jews have a special jewel planted in their hand at birth that changes color every few years. When they turn 65, jewel turns black and Sandmen show up to take them to Boca Raton.
