(AZCentral)   Catholic high school baseball team chooses to forfeit the title game rather than play against a team that has a girl on the squad. Seriously. "They believe that a girl's place is not on a field"   (azcentral.com) divider line 412

Time to dust off this old chestnut

Lost twice to them earlier in the season.......That would imply that they already played against them no?

Sounds like they were afraid to get beaten by a team with a girl on it.........again.

Dude, this is a league game, this determines who enters the next round robin. Am I wrong? Am I wrong? Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a shiat about the rules? This whole farking thing... I did not watch my buddies die face down in the muck so that this farking strumpet...

2012-05-10 01:15:56 PM

PanicMan: Why is this even an issue in baseball? It's not like it's even a contact sport or anything.

shiat, if she's good enough to play the game, who cares if it *is* a contact sport?

2012-05-10 01:15:58 PM
Haha, they lost to a girl.

She didn't play 2 games already in respect for their beliefs?

That's more respect then I would have given them.

Not very relevant, but it popped in my head while reading TFA...

Gig103: "Sorry boys. You worked hard but because the adults are playing politics, you don't get a chance to play the championship. But it's not our fault, it's a GIRL'S fault!"

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully there are at least a couple of young men on that team that are appalled by their "mentors," and store this event with all the other "wow, this religion is brainwashing bullshiat and thinly-veiled bigotry" moments they've experienced. Then, as soon as they get the chance, they say "Ya know what, fark your religion. I'm out."

2012-05-10 01:17:07 PM
This sounds like they knew they were going to be beaten by a team with a girl on it and couldn't take the testosterone reducing shame.

The girl sat out both regular season games voluntarily. She wasn't about to sit out the championship game.

After RTFA: Congratulations, you just proved yourselves to be a bunch of pansies that give up AND that 'gender equality' is a joke!

Weird. I wrestled for a Catholic high school (cue the jokes). There were no convictions about wrestling teams that had girls on them. In fact, most of my wins were against girls.

Tell Me How My Blog Tastes: Ummmmmmmm I played HS ball for a Catholic school... this wouldn't have been an issue. Seriously. There are wackos all over this world, and sometimes they all go to HS together.

the school wasn't catholic. they broke from the church, denying vatican 2.

/ it's so weird that a group can break from a church over insignificant reasons, but then completely ignore the important constitution of their beliefs. like, how are they going to claim any validity by breaking from the source of their belief? denominations, schisms, and all that crap is really silly, if you actually believe in god.

scottydoesntknow: JerseyTim: If I were Mesa Preparatory Academy, I would put "2012 BASEBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" banners all over town.

I really hope that every team they're scheduled to play next season puts a girl on their team. Then I'll just smile and watch as the Sorrow's team forfeits every game because they can't play with icky girls.

If I was a coach in that league that is exactly what I'd do. We're playing the Nutty Sad Ladies? Go grab me a girl to stick in right field.

I'll take a win every time. At the end of the season, how you won doesn't make a bit of difference.

They should change the school name to "Our Lady Of Sandy Vaginas".

(Yes, I understand the irony of using a sandy vagina joke against misogynist assholes. Just go with the damn joke.)

2012-05-10 01:22:05 PM
But Our Lady of Sorrows, a fundamentalist Catholic school in Phoenix that lost twice to Mesa Prep during the regular season, chose to forfeit the championship game rather than play a lose to a team team fielding a female player for a third time this season.

Fixed.

Kuta: I hope that the Arizona High School Athletic Association takes a stand and makes a policy which supports the RIGHTS of female athletes. They should ban Our Lady of the Sorrows from playing in their leagues.

Plus, this wouldn't have been an issue if the girls' team had not coddled them during the season and "respected" their beliefs which were apparently contrary to the league rules.

The AIA (Arizona Interscholastic Association) is the governing body for sports for public Arizona high schools and some private schools. These two schools are probably under the Charter Athletic Association. The larger Catholic high schools (Brophy, Xavier, St. Mary's) are under AIA.

AIA tries to address Title IX issues.

If she's old enough to crawl, she's in the right position.

Are you kidding? Women wore corsets EVERYWHERE. I fail to see how that isn't a HUGE win for society if we brought that back.

Lets see her play baseball in that.

FTFA: During Mesa Prep's two previous games with Our Lady of Sorrows, Paige didn't play out of respect for the opposing team's beliefs, but that wasn't going to be an option this time, Pamela said.

If there's any lesson in here for anybody, it's that appeasing religious people by accommodating their superstitions doesn't get you anywhere.

2012-05-10 01:24:05 PM
> "I respect their views, but it's a bit out of the 18th century," said Mesa Prep athletic director Amy Arnold...

Not sure what there is to respect. I wouldn't pretend to respect those views. Identifying and calling attention to repulsive behaviour on the part of twisted religious goons doesn't require tact.

Because women are not meant to interact with men other than to serve them a sammich and receive their husband and master's babby-forming sperm. Both done humbly and with downcast eyes.

Step one... find girl for team
Step two... play only Catholic teams
Step three... take division title and head for state.

Donnchadha: Tell Me How My Blog Tastes: Ummmmmmmm I played HS ball for a Catholic school...

Technically they aren't Catholic. The Catholics are actually too liberal for them:

Our Lady of Sorrows is run by the U.S. branch of the Society of Saint Pius X, a group of conservative, traditionalist priests who disagree with the reforms of the Vatican II Council in the 1960s and broke with the Catholic Church in the 1980s.

Came here to say this. Thank you.

2012-05-10 01:25:59 PM
Wow... I can't believe I'm reading about this in 2012 in the United States.

As a former softball player and the mom to two current ones, this is unbelievable. Let them forfeit.

I also agree with Gig103: The adults are being childish here...

I'm convinced that religion is like a warm damp cave for the fungus of insanity. It's like the last line of defense for bigots and imbeciles. Sure not every religious person is a bigot but I bet the bigots flock to religion as a safe haven for their hatred. In our modern age it's essentially the last safe place to display your hatred. Maybe if the religious folk started to oust these people we wouldn't be so inclined to deride religion.

Then again maybe not, but it's got to be worth a try.

She shouldn't have sat out those first two games either. Hell, she even said she "respected" their beliefs. I would suggest that all the teams that play against Our Lady of Bigotry have a girl on their team so they can just sit out season after season in a form of group-mortification.

2012-05-10 01:27:43 PM
Why are these backward twits allowed to be in the league? The league needs to sack up and say "you play with the teams fielded or GTFO."
