(AZCentral)   Catholic high school baseball team chooses to forfeit the title game rather than play against a team that has a girl on the squad. Seriously. "They believe that a girl's place is not on a field"   (azcentral.com) divider line 412

Ummmmmmmm I played HS ball for a Catholic school... this wouldn't have been an issue. Seriously. There are wackos all over this world, and sometimes they all go to HS together.

Go on...

She needs to get in the kitchen and make them a sammich! But no meat on it if it's a Friday. And why doesn't she have any kids? All Catholic females should not use contraception and should start popping out kids like a Pez dispenser non-stop. And I'm sure none of those boys on the team masturbate, cause that's a sin.

Tell Me How My Blog Tastes: Ummmmmmmm I played HS ball for a Catholic school...

Technically they aren't Catholic. The Catholics are actually too liberal for them:

Our Lady of Sorrows is run by the U.S. branch of the Society of Saint Pius X, a group of conservative, traditionalist priests who disagree with the reforms of the Vatican II Council in the 1960s and broke with the Catholic Church in the 1980s.

"Our Lady of Sorrows"? I bet the pep rallies for that joint are a hoot.

In light of subby mischaracterizing the school as Catholic, what's the over/under on "molesting priest" outrage?

I'm saying 20 posts.

I don't know but there's a "if there's grass on the field, don't bother playing ball" joke in there somewhere.

FTFA:

Our Lady of Sorrows, a fundamentalist Catholic school in Phoenix that lost twice to Mesa Prep during the regular season, chose to forfeit the championship game rather than play a team fielding a female player that already kicked their ass twice and knew they couldn't beat.

DNRTFA so... thanks. Bunch of wackos got together and acted loony. Nothing to see here.

FTA: But Our Lady of Sorrows, a fundamentalist Catholic school in Phoenix

It sounds just like a regular Catholic school except that they don't report pedo priests. Or am I missing something?

There's a reason we're born with the instinct to suck. Why deny nature?

Donnchadha: Technically they aren't Catholic

This this this.

I'm not Catholic, but I have a lot of Catholics as relatives and went to a Catholic high school myself. None of the Catholics I know would agree with these guys, and many would be outright offended that subby associated them with this.

Of course a lot of them would also admit that it's not that inaccurate of a comparison given the Church's rules about who is or is not allowed to become a priest.

It's a little known part of the Gospels where Jesus told his followers that vaginas and organized sports don't mix.

I don't remember Mary Magdalene participating in anything other than watersports.

Do you?

That's just stupid. Play the game, beat them on the field if you think she's handicapping them.

Meh, we had a couple of girls on our wrestling team. Often the teams we would wrestle against would rather forfeit than have to wrestle her. She was good too, both her older brothers made it to state.

Our Lady of Sorrows? What kind of parent would actually send their kid to "Our Lady of Sorrows"?!?! Was "Our Father of Unrelenting Distress" already full?

2012-05-10 12:15:33 PM
FTA: Pamela said she doesn't believe Our Lady of Sorrow's stance is discriminatory, but a bit narrow-minded.

Really? I think their stance is discriminatory. It's not legally actionable, but they're still discriminating against her.

It's a good lesson to teach the kids.

If you adhere to your church's sexist beliefs, you will lose.

^ And I don't mean politics like the upcoming election, I mean it in the general sense of policy.

If I were Mesa Preparatory Academy, I would put "2012 BASEBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" banners all over town.

Gig103: "Sorry boys. You worked hard but because the adults are playing politics, you don't get a chance to play the championship. But it's not our fault, it's a GIRL'S fault!"

Yeah! If only she hadn't wanted to play a team sport, none of this would have ever happened!

/This is why women can't be trusted to vote either, I would imagine.

I really hope that every team they're scheduled to play next season puts a girl on their team. Then I'll just smile and watch as the Sorrow's team forfeits every game because they can't play with icky girls.

Religious people are disgusting.

That sounds fair, they are simply acknowledging that they are losers.

Grass is unwelcome when you only want to play in the mud.

Girls just distract pious boys from their duty to the priests.

2012-05-10 01:13:13 PM
I hope that the Arizona High School Athletic Association takes a stand and makes a policy which supports the RIGHTS of female athletes. They should ban Our Lady of the Sorrows from playing in their leagues.

Plus, this wouldn't have been an issue if the girls' team had not coddled them during the season and "respected" their beliefs which were apparently contrary to the league rules.

2012-05-10 01:13:31 PM
Catholics and Christians are always so accepting and tolerant of others.

Between their idiot coont Governor, Sheriff Joe, and now this, should anything surprise you about AZ anymore? Besides the town of Surprise, AZ of course.

Sure are a lot of people in that article telling us what other people believe and why.

Just saying...

//Pssst... you're doing it wrong.
