He passes by the Jersey shore on the way to the bus stop?

Seriously: What the hell?? How stupid are 4th graders?

Almost sounds like an urban legend. Sadly, this is true.

Calling a 4th grader a dumb ass? Look at that stupid toddler, farker poops in his pants.

There's some idiots here alright, but I'd say it's a stretch to label that little kid as such.

hehehehehehehehe........'boy finds needle, sticks classmates'

is it horrible that i'm giggling uncontrollably??

What is sad is that in Vancouver, teaching your children about "needle safety" is standard childproofing as much as "dont get in a car with a stranger" and not petting strange dogs.

I'm hoping our safe injection site will at least help the problem, but realistically that will only affect the skid-row downtown eastside...and there's no shortage of IV junkies in the rest of the city.

I disagree. Psychopathic little piece of sht. Just kill him now and save on court costs later.

does that mean you city has a special place for addicts to go to shoot up?

Go here if you like reading about freaks obsessed with Star Trek actors, specifically 'Data.' This woman is nuts. (LaVette is her name, the rest of the commenters are her enemies, lol) Its kinda funny, (well, also mean.)

4th grade (Around 10 years old) is plenty old enough to know not to poke others with a needle, especially one you found on your way to school. Besides, if he's old enough to walk to the bus stop on his own, he's plenty old enough to know better.

BTW I posted that comment above because LaVette is also from Cincinnati.

It was your kid, wasn't it? C'mon, we won't tell anyone...

2003-11-04 06:53:48 PM
Bah! When I was a kid we'd stick each other with found needles all the time. Didn't hurt me none. Except for the Hep.

Yes. Vancouver has created North America's first safe injection site.

Addicts get free needles, sterile water and a clean alcohol swab. They also talk to the nurse on duty and have access to social services through the safe injection site.

The US anti-drug jihad is, of course, furious about this because it "encourages drug use".

After the pokings he was overheard saying, "First one is free but after that......"

2003-11-04 07:00:38 PM
it appears its one of those syringes that looks like a pen. the "one time insulin use only" seems like this is probably the case. diabetics use a variant of this to poke themselves to take blood. this just injects something when it pokes people. or i could be wrong

wow, i think the drug war is a waste of money myself and would love marijuana to be legal. but subsidizing drug use is a whole other story.

Keep in mind this is Canada: we can pay for a nurse now, or pay for treatment/lingering death later. There are other considerations, but that part of the cost does make sense.

2003-11-04 07:07:12 PM
shiat I hope the needle wasn't used cause those kids are screwed if some crack addicts were using it.

why? the IV junkies will shoot up regardless of whether or not they are given a place to do so cleanly and safely. What is the harm of giving them a place that is clean and safe in which to shoot up? The benefit is an ability to track IV drug users, the "re-socialization" of some of the hardest of hard-core street junkies by introducing them to medical and social services on a three or four times daily basis and the ability to step in and get them help when they start to OD.

I'd prefer they go even further and give them heroin. Cost of wholesale heroin from the plantation in New Zealand is next-to-nothing. Benefit of NOT replacing car windows and cops dealing with break-ins is huge.

Do you know how mad THAT would make our neighbours to the south?

I am sure they would be ok with it if we gave LOTS of heroin all at once.....

Used to live with a poker- guess what, he is dead now.

Kristie, actually, the incident took place on the other end of the state in my old stomping grounds of Warren.
I submitted this link from the Warren paper, but they chose this story. Me, bitter? A tad.

that sucks....although i suppose (depending on how much you loved this person) it beats coming home to find your stereo, laptop, guitar and everything else you own has been pawned and has gone into your roomie's arm.

in fact, though, it is the notoriously unreliable purity and availability of street heroin which is responsible for overdose. Give em a steady supply of known-purity kaka and they're OK. Glazed, stupouros and generally NOT productive members of society, but better lotus-eating than breaking into my truck!

hmmm, seems to be a bit of bias to this story? Can we get an impartial article please?

In all seriousness, hope all the kids are okay.

Notorious, thats what I was going to say. As I recall, McGuffey is in a rougher part of town (I grew up on the east side - WGH grad).

p.s. How do you manage to get 14 links approved? I have given up.

2003-11-04 07:26:05 PM
Actually, Bill_Wick's_Friend, he was the only ex-housemate I have ever actually punched in the head. Still felt bad about it though, but the only surprising thing was he drowned (under the influence of course).

Sorry to contradict, but I know way back it was the opposite. In the late 80s the quality of smakc shot through the roof and junkies taking their usual amounts started dropping like flies.

Personally, I think it would be cheaper to drop them off in Northern Manitoba and let nature sort it out. They find their own way to the 'Peg or Thunder Bay, it will likely be out of their system.

2003-11-04 07:32:24 PM
Kristie, you're forgiven.
TravelinJones, I grew up in Youngstown and spent a coupla summers at the Trib.
And how do I get links approved? I spend most of my days at a computer, and if you throw enough suggestions, a coupla them'll stick.

2003-11-04 07:35:01 PM

You're not contradicting at all. As I said, it's the fact that purity is unreliable...sometimes stronger than the junkie thinks, sometimes weaker.

You think that your 1/2 point is a good shot but the "new shiat" is actually really strong so that 1/2 point will kill you. OR...you think 1/2 point is good enough so you do it and still feel "edgy" so you do another couple of quarter points and then you've ODd by taking too much.

Also, if there is a shortage, addicts will turn to some other pill or drug (ie: alcohol) to calm the frayed jones nerves. When some good smack finally hits the streets it reacts badly with a guy whose bloodstream is still working off the effects of some valiums and vodka which were used to help take away cravings.

2003-11-04 07:41:48 PM
Man, I used to go to school with a girl that poked Vodka before getting her life together and going back to school. At 19 she looked 40 year old....

2003-11-04 07:48:42 PM
Poked vodka??? I thought I'd heard of everything. Eewww. That's just asking for alcohol poisoning/death.

SpinStopper

Oh yeah. Once they start to poke, anything goes in there.

I knew it was time to let go with some of these people when I would 5 of them grinding a huge pile of powder that turned out to be doggie valium stolen from a dog-breeder mom. See ya!

That would scare me silly. Those poor people are bypassing all of the safety mechanisms of the human body.

I've ingested some interesting things in my day, but never poked. Been poked by doctors and hospital staff, but that's very different. Mmmm, morphine (broken back, crushed arms, broken and torn up lots of other stuff). I've done $10,000 worth of morphine in two weeks. Legally.

Needle safety education for children sounds like a good idea to me. It's too bad that it's necessary, but these days it ranks right up with "look both ways before crossing the street." Which most of the kids in my neighborhood don't bother with . . .

2003-11-04 08:50:20 PM
1) find needle
2) ?????
3)Profit!!!

Thats a good way to be anti-social.
