CSB:

I met the former voice of Skippy in college. He's a huge film nerd. I think he finished film school a couple of years ago and is trying to make it as a director.

Sir Vanderhoot: That show was way smarter than it had any right being.

Sir Vanderhoot: That show was way smarter than it had any right being.

There were definitely a good number of smart shows from that time period. Only one that never really got its due, imho, was Gargoyles, simply because Disney couldn't handle a more mature cartoon like WB did with the DC shows.

Anyways, Animaniacs(or perhaps Histeria) was the last good slapstick style humor cartoon I can think of, something in the style of Looney Tunes that is.

Judge: Have you subpoenaed the witness?
Yakko: Have I what?
Judge: Subpoenaed! Subpoenaed! Have you subpoenaed the witness?!
Yakko: I most certainly have not! You should be ashamed of yourself for even suggesting it!
(later, while he's questioning the meter maid that gave the ticket)
Yakko: Why did you give Dr. Scratchensniff a ticket?
Meter Maid: His parking meter had expired. That's a violation of the Burbank Penal Code.
Yakko: The what?
Meter Maid: The penal code! The penal code!
Yakko (to the judge): You know, the two of you oughta get together.

Likely never, unless HBO or Showtime decides to do it. Networks have found it's way cheaper to do brainless "reality" shows. Thanks, to all you morans who watch Dancing with The Voice Jersey Shore Kardashian Bachelorette Survivors. You've made TV a so much dumber place.

My favorite Pinky and the Brain exchange:

Brain: Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: Whoof, oh, I'd have to say the odds of that are terribly slim, Brain.
Brain: True.
Pinky: I mean, really, when have I ever been pondering what you've been pondering?
Brain: To my knowledge, never.
Pinky: Exactly. So, what are the chances that this time, I'm pondering what you're pondering?
Brain: Next to nil.
Pinky: Well, that's exactly what I'm thinking, too.
Brain: Therefore, you are pondering what I'm pondering.
Pinky: Poit, I guess I am!

Also in the Animaniacs/Freakazoid era was the much underrated Earthworm Jim series. Very similar in that it was written for kids but really mostly for adults. Lots of great culture references and jokes.
