the guy is amazing. he weasels and lies so convincingly. his taking credit for the auto bailout was one of the most egregious lies i've ever seen a politician tell. and he did it willingly - gleefully, even. it was astounding to watch.

The CBS reporter had asked Romney if he would support same-sex marriage, and the candidate answered that he wouldn't, saying he "didn't support marriage between two people of the same gender."

"We wish Barack Obama would stop playing around with these social issue that don't help jobs, the economy, or the massive debt, and instead focus on things that would improve them. Like effectively banning abortion, limiting access to birth control, and reinstating DADT."

Now that's funny.

Romney barely walked the tightrope between his record and his base during the primaries, and he stumbled hard against serial farkups like Newt and Santorum. If the Obama campaign can operate as well as it did in 2008, Romney is going to be surgically dismantled on national TV.

The vast majority of people are agianst man on man "marriage", against contraception when simply keeping your legs shut worked for thousands of years, against funding the perverted arts, against abortion and abortionsists like PP, etc. The people on the right (right socially, politically, and in the since that were "correct" right) are simply passing legislation to set things straight the way the majoirty want them... it's only then that you come crying and trying to drive a wegie in politics to keep us from getting aything done. How about deregulation? How about tort reofrm? How about lifting environmental rules to save some precious snail fish so we can get back to work? We can't even get to that conversation because you keep focusing on these social issues, that while important, aren't creating jobs.

I kind of feel like this is why Obama did the gay marriage announcement when he did. It was looking like things might settle down and Mitt might be able to talk about the economy which he seems to be dying to do. Now all that's gonna be on the airwaves for the next couple of weeks will be OMG GAY MARRIAGE - WHAT DOES OBAMA'S ANNOUNCEMENT MEAN FOR YOUR FAMILY. The loonies who hate Obama will just keep on frothing but the libs will perhaps be more enthusiastic

/not saying I personally feel Obama is weak on the economy but I know how fickle the public is about it

If there are any debate moderators this fall worth there salt, one of the questions will be as follows:

Governor Romney, voters this fall in Colorado, Oregon and other states are going to the polls to vote on making marijuana legal for personal use. This past may, you told a reporter that you believe that marijuana legality should be a state issue. In light of that statement, if voters approve these ballot measures, would you instruct the department of justice to honor these state laws?

Marriage has always been a civil function, not just a social one. It's a contract drawn up to handle things like power of attorney, inheritance, estate economics, etc. There is no reason to deny that to gay couples, outside of a religious argument.

So the real issue is why is the state having to yield to a religious viewpoint like this?

First of all, finding a "moderator" that would actually ask a question that does not lead into a pre-programmed response would be actually refreshing to hear, and probably unlikely.

Secondly, I imagine the response would be something like "Please, adult human, we are here to discuss the Obama economy therefore, I'm not going to respond to voters this fall in Colorado, Oregon and other states are going to the polls to vote on making marijuana legal for personal use. This past may, you told a reporter that you believe that marijuana legality should be a state issue. That's not just Romney, though. It's the MO of the Republicans at the moment. Their war on women is a prime example -- Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. "We don't have a war on women. How about bullying?

FlashHarry: his taking credit for the auto bailout was one of the most egregious lies i've ever seen a politician tell. and he did it willingly - gleefully, even. it was astounding to watch.

Word of the week: "Confabulation".

Diogenes: Hollie Maea: Romney is starting to have his cool tested.

I called that on day one. He's extremely testy, and does not take kindly to being challenged. He doesn't have the grace to handle it well.

I can't imagine what it would like working for his campaign. It's funny how we always think of Social Security when we speak of entitlement reform. When I think we'd all benefit greatly if we applied the concept to the likes of Romney.

One thing I do agree with Conservatives on is that Obama is indeed the greatest troll ever. He's got Romney on the edge and before he even gets his bearings, Obama is going to do something else.

Possibilities:

1) a youth rally in Utah
2) ask Romney for more tax returns
3) something where Obama is a judge at a wine or beer competition

Obama just has so many things in his tool box. He could do a 60 minute interview touring where he worked construction while he was going to University or just play some hoop to raise money with former NBA players to raise money for the SPCA. So many options that I actually wouldn't be surprised if Romney just quit before November.

That's insulting to GWB. Romney is seriously more farked up than Bush II.

Well Romney ran cross country Romney was not a natural athlete, according to classmates. He wore the Cranbrook "C" on his white tank top as a cross-country runner, but the greatest impression he made in that pursuit was collapsing near the finish line during a meet

This is why Romney can't win. When your best play is "Guys, stop talking about what I don't want to talk about!" you are in way over your head.

Obama's team know exactly what they're doing. Every time Obama brings up a social issue it both embiggens his base and reminds social conservatives of what they don't like about Romney. Romney's people are playing defense but they're a JV team in a pro-league game.

If by "finish line" you mean Tampa Bay, then yes I can see that happening.

All along my assumption has been that Romney will crash and burn at his own nominating convention. He will be attempting to be the top politician in a hall filled with competitive politicians. The problem is, Romney is a horrible politician. He cynically changes his positions so clumsily he's an insult to the real pros. His own party is going to send him into fits. On national television Romney will turn into a real life Ralph Steadman drawing. I'm looking forward to it.

Because, as President, Romney would only be asked about things he wants to talk about.

The sad part is that being snippy with the press just makes him a hero to anyone who hates the "LIEberal" media.

I'm pretty sure Obama knows exactly when the crash and burn will be. He has it on the timeline after the milestones of the successive stunts he will pull to completely unhinge him. He starting of slow. This gay marriage issue was just like a standard control question they ask you in a polygraph. It will become more interesting from here on in.

alywa: Well, he has a point libs. You are the ones who keep bring up all this well-decided social crap and shoving it down our throats. We can't even get to that conversation because you keep focusing on these social issues, that while important, aren't creating jobs.

look in the mirror, libs. You won't like what you see.

I can see this. So, the question becomes: what kind of meltdown?

Will it be big enough that it cannot be spun away?
Will he have to quit?
Will it be LOL packed?
Will it have the N-bomb?

If Romney doesn't think that medical marijuanna, gay marriage and in state tuition for children of illegal immigrants are 'signifcant issues" for the voters of Colorado, he really doesn't know fark all about the state. No wonder Santorum cleaned his clock in that state primary.

I think it will be funny, but that's my point of view. It won't be the N word. It's clear to me Romney doesn't consider black folks to be humans, check out his "Who let the dogs out?" video. Obama's ancestry means nothing to Romney.

Romney has paid for a barrier of sycophants during this campaign and they don't challenge him. The Obama team will poke him until he aches. His own party won't help. I expect Romney will entirely lose it and attempt to choke a delegate or a reporter right on television. Romney's face will turn into a mask of rage and he will scream crazy things. And, frankly, I won't be surprised.

Yeah...for me, the real story is the "I don't recall the incident" response. Either one of two things is true: 1. He's lying 2. He is so callous that he forgot CARRYING OUT an incident that continues to haunt 50 years later multiple people who merely witnessed it.

Hint: He's lying.

He reminds me of this Mormon girl I used to date's father.

Externally, he was perfect. In great shape, nice big house for his family, he had it all together.

But the instant anything went wrong, he couldn't deal. He would get FURIOUS. He'd yell and scream and frighten his kids. It was so bad his wife divorced him. I didn't know Mormons got divorced. It was ridiculous.

It's how I picture Romney. He's not used to disappointment, I don't think. He's about to be very, very disappointed. He won't handle it well.

You know what doesn't win you a lot of votes in a swing state? Going to a swing state and dismissing three of the major concerns in that swing state because you want to drop a canned sound bite about jobs.

This isn't John McCain's "maybe you folks in Colorado should get ready to give more water to Phoenix" speech, but it's sure not going to win him any converts.

I noticed during the Republican debates that he loses his cool pretty easily. he tries to hide it, but the pitch of his voice goes up, he stammers more and hestartstalkingreallyfast. Plus his off the cuff answers to questions he doesn't expect are almost always laughably terrible (Mexican landscapers/$10K bets).

Listen, they can ask the questions they and he can give the answers he wants. Wasn't that the melt down over a pretty softball follow-up during the GOP debate. That got a round of applause from the derpers in the audience. I don't think Mittens is ready for prime-time.

I was exaggerating, but not by much.

I think he probably forgot he was campaigning for president and went into Senator from Arizona mode for a moment, but it didn't endear him to the farmer/rancher types that would love to vote for a westerner and a war hero over some fancy city lawyer from Chicago.

Romney maybe the only Republican that wouldn't like to get it from both ends.
Easy joke out to the way, a smart politician could use both sides attacking him to his advantage. Remember when Clinton triangulated between the Republicans and Democrats in congress?

When Romney is asked about the bullying.. when he tells the story about the dog on his car roof, and when he told the story about his father moving jobs out of state.. in all 3 situations, he laughs when he talks about them, and absolutely no one else does.
