So.. their old sponsors didn't expect them to do something like that? Really?

2012-05-10 09:07:30 AM
Yeah, sometimes for periods as long as two months. Remember when the Sandra Fluke incident cost Limbaugh all his sponsors? How many of them are back now?

Losing grip on your Publicly exposing your loss of sanity will often cost you your corporate sponsors as well

The people that sponsored the Heartland Institute knew what they were getting into... I say, let them herp.

EyeballKid: Yeah, sometimes for periods as long as two months. Remember when the Sandra Fluke incident cost Limbaugh all his sponsors? How many of them are back now?

I have no idea, but Cumulus did just announce that the boycott cost them millions and accounted for almost a full third of their revenue shortfall in the last quarter.

2012-05-10 09:12:26 AM
But about two dozen insurance companies, including US giant State Farm, announced an end to support for Heartland because of the billboard.

Like a good neighbor...

WTF Karl, Kazynski?

We're outta here!

Are there any resources out there that index all the political expenditures of a company?

It was suggested the exodus might force Heartland to cancel its annual climate conference

Seems to me that would be the most boring conference ever. "The climate's fine, there's nothing to see here!"

It was suggested the exodus might force Heartland to cancel its annual climate conference, scheduled for Chicago later this month. But Jim Lakely, a Heartland spokesman, said in an email: "The conference is going forward as planned. Only one (nonpaying) co-sponsor out of 50 has stepped away from the event." He claimed the thinktank hoped to attract more corporate support for the three-day gathering.

Sounds like it's time to pile on.

I don't get it. Even if you are an anthropogenic climate change "skeptic," why do you feel the need to FIGHT against environmental conservatism?

I can only think of two reasons: greed and/or derp.

The two main planks of the Republican Party, pal.

Its not just that the ad was reprehensible but was also pointless. These guilt-by-association claims are goofy - Hitler was a big fan of respirating and Osama liked porn, but I'm not giving up either of these because some nutjobs fit into overly broad categories.

2012-05-10 09:19:36 AM
"The ad, which ran for just a day on a Chicago expressway, featured an image of the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, and the caption: "I still believe in global warming. Do you?"

In what twisted, demented, intellectually challenged mind does this even make the slightest bit of sense?

EyeballKid: Yeah, sometimes for periods as long as two months. Remember when the Sandra Fluke incident cost Limbaugh all his sponsors? How many of them are back now?

Interesting question. Let's do a quick google and find out.

*quick google*

None that I can find.

Why you got any evidence they are coming back in droves or something?

Found this...

Last night, Cumulus Media, a radio company that carries Rush Limbaugh's show on 38 of its stations, announced millions in losses directly attributable to Limbaugh's show.

Losing millions still? Check.

Second, we haven't seen any evidence of a massive return of advertisers. At this point, it seems like the advertisers that left are unlikely to return. And, we continue to see advertisers leaving the program.

No return of old advertisers and new folks still leaving? Check.

Oh, and for extra giggles...

Additionally, the National Organization for Women announced an Enough Rush campaign, which will formally kick off in mid-May.

Link

Thanks for asking.

"You cannot simultaneously say that you want to promote a debate while equating the other side to terrorists and mass murderers."

This is what happens when you let people living in a teabag echo chamber head up organizations. They actually thought this would go over well.

Who was that GOPer that said something like when the last tree is felled Jesus will return so not caring about the environment will just hurry his return along? Something to that affect.

Hey, I'm glad to learn of that, I was just going with my gut that the show had no problem with funding. I have a pessimistic view of what outrages the typical American these days, and how long said outrage lasts.

From you link the best part Cumulus is also a relatively small player where Limbaugh is concerned, airing his show on just 38 stations around the country. Dickey's comments could mean that companies that have a bigger stake in Limbaugh's show were hit harder

And if you read the unabomber's manifesto, he's right about a lot of things. He just also happened to be crazy, and decided to act upon his beliefs in a terrible way.

and thanks for the quick research. I was heartened by that. Speaking of the NOW campaign, Limbaugh is supposedly fighting back by starting up a "Chicks for Rush" group to support him.
My question is, Who the frak are these broads that would be fans of his?
Seriously. Oh wait, Daughters of the American Revolution?

Maybe Heartland is one of those "sell insurance across state lines" advocates.

Because some people think the well-being of the American people should trump that of trees and rocks. Every homeless person in the soup line would have a job if not for decades of job-killing regulations at the hands of the enviro-psycho lobby.

Ever piss off a woman before?

K, now multiply that by a few million.

Plus there's more than a few guys out there who are kinda choked ole puddin' head Limbaugh called their moms and sisters and significant others "sluts" for wanting realistic health insurance policies unaffected by religious prejudice.

Lady Jesus campers and snooty DAR chicks is about all I can figure on.

The insurance industry funding of deniers surprised me too.
The debate would end real quick if the federal flood and crop insurance programs were terminated and the insurance industry bean counters -- who tend to be reality based -- started basing premiums on real-world risks.
