There's a reason we invaded Afghanistan, the worlds #1 producer of opiates used in painkillers, and it wasn't to get the bad guys.

BECAUSE SHUT UP AND GIVE ME PILLS is standard medical procedure.

Because doctors are weak sacks of sh*t, unable to either follow protocol in prescribing meds, or following up to see if the course is even working.

jjwars1: There's a reason we invaded Afghanistan, the worlds #1 producer of opiates used in painkillers

Bzzzzt! Wrong... Pharmaceutical heroin is much cheaper and cleaner.

I can't wait to see the sales numbers for Zohydro. We've basically legalized heroin. Let's stop f*cking around here and admit that we have legalized hardcore drugs and pretend it's legal by using pharmacology. Yet, marijuana is still illegal and will kill all the children.

I'd venture to bet that many of the same people who are vehemently anti-pot are consistently 4-7 days early on their refill for Oxy or vicodin. F*cking hypocritical assholes.

It's hysterical, really. We're fighting the Drug War and running a multi-billion business in those very same meds, but with a doctor and a prescription pad. Don't give me the chronic pain crap. I know the ones who are on it for fused discs and such. I know it has a legitimate use, but the hypocrisy of the argument on drugs we have is just ridiculous.

We can't have an honest discussion about anything in this country. Ahhhh... F*ck it. I'm just going to put my 401(k) on Zohydro and let it ride!

I remember when I was taking oxycontin I would wonder why there was no vicocontin, for the lightweights. I guess now there is.

You are right, we can't have an honest discussion in this country. There is too much money to be made.

Just in time for the police state to control who gets access to those meds.

remember - cannabis is Schedule I and is considered to be more toxic than cocaine and synthetic opiates. it is tightly controlled, highly illegal and is the focus of a multi-billion dollar a year effort to eradicate it.

But prescription painkillers are easy to get, affordable, covered by your insurance and only regulated when it is convenient. people who game the system end up with more drugs than they know what to do with. People who play it straight, end up being laughed at, mocked for being weak enough to require pain management and easily end up facing arrest for just trying to get through the day without agony.

And lastly - discussing or admitting that this is a f*cked up situation labels you as soft on crime. suggesting that we re-evaluate our approach to drug use, pain management and addiction is laughed at, mocked and ignored. This year we will continue to do the same things that did not work last year, and it will cost us more than it did two years before. cutting dug war budgets is not permitted - they can ONLY get bigger. you are not allowed to discuss this issue.

That reminds me...

It's time to take my Vicodin. But it's actually for pain, so it kinda sucks. Wish I were in condition to take it recreationally, or not at all.

You have touched on the problem. The "legal" corporations don't like competition from outsiders. After all, it was the legal ones that built the market, it should be all theirs, right?

Because we've built a damaged and damaging culture of throwing ourselves against an unfeeling stone wall, until we ache like hell, in exchange for bread?

And if that's the problem, why weren't we paying attention when all the bread was being stockpiled behind the stone wall. And why did we think saying "that's the way it is" would be rewarded?

It should be. Let someone who understands the problem deal with it. A GP just isn't in a position to know everything.

Note that I'm not referring to acute pain. If you break your leg and need a week or two of pain meds that's one thing. If you are having pain two years later that still requires narcotics to relieve it then that is another thing altogether. Patients with chronic intractable pain are not generally something most primary physicians can effectively deal with and leads to over-prescribing of narcotics. Those are the patients that need a pain specialist.

Howard Levine runs a pharmacy on Long Island that was twice robbed by an addict desperate for painkillers. He no longer provides most prescription painkillers.

That seems like a valid and logical response. Inconvience 1000s of people because of one asshole. So when he gots robbed for his money so the addict can buy drugs somewhere else, is he going to stop accepting cash?

This makes a lot more sense when you realize that corner drug dealers are merely competition for pharma companies. All Big Pharma's doing is using their money via the power of lobbying to get their competition shut down.
