I will never understand people who want to crawl into a gadget and be bombarded with UV rays just to burn their skin. At least with normal sun exposure you get outdoors.

I had a bf in high school who convinced me to go tanning but I stopped after a couple of times; it always made my skin feel tight and itchy afterwords, despite the lotion. In retrospect I'm very glad I did, and also that I broke up with that guy (for other reasons). Took me a year or so longer than it should have though.

So, you're okay with this woman leaving a little girl and a baby alone so mommy dearest can go to a salon? Is that what you're saying, because that's what it sounds like you're saying.

Not only that, but mommy left the engine running which makes the vehicle more attractive to a potential car thief. And young children have been known to mess around with things like gear shift levers and the like when left unattended, but it probably wouldn't bother you in the least if the little girl accidently put the car into reverse and it struck another vehicle, a person, or backed up into oncoming traffic.

They also tend to boil alive quite easily this time of year, especially if keys accidentally get knocked out of the ignition.

When I was like, four, my mom left my sister and I in a van outside our church while she went in to get something. My sister being only a few years older than me, somehow knocked the car into neutral and nearly ran it into the brick building. Fortunately mom ran out and was able to stop it in time, because she wasn't screwing around tanning.

The point is, even with intelligent responsible people, accidents happen. Tanning while leaving the kids in the car, and driving with a suspended license to boot, is not what you should call being responsible. As others have pointed out, leaving a relatively helpless kid (or animal) in a car when it's warm out can actually kill them, also. It's called negligence.

FTFY

If she had knocked it into drive (like I did with a vehicle being towed) or reverse, than there might have been an issue.

I have a suspicion that the kids will be better off for it as well. The mother has already displayed signs that she can't make responsible decisions prior to leaving the crotch fruit in the car.

True story: When I was 18 months old (yes, when I was a baby), my grandmother left me in the car with the engine running to run back into the house to get something. As this was in the early 1970s, I was not strapped into a child safety seat (because there was no such thing back then). I unbuckled my seatbelt and put the car into gear -- in reverse. We're talking about a gigantic Lincoln of some variety, and such cars can reach a decent speed without any application of the gas pedal.

The car backed up down the street. Just as I put it into forward, the preacher of the church across the street saw what was happening, jumped in the car with me, and protected me with his body as the car crashed into the side of the house. I was taken to the hospital -- no harm done but a bump on the head.

My grandmother was determined to pretend it hadn't happened when my parent came back from their trip, because she was afraid they would never let her watch me again. She replaced the damaged car with an identical one, and had the brick house fixed. The only reason my parents found out about the incident was that the preacher came over to see how I was doing while my parents were there. He didn't know he was supposed to be keeping a secret.

I'm 41 now, and I have been in exactly one at-fault accident. I usually win contests about "how young were you the first time you crashed a car?"

Oh, if you're around long enough, you'll probably see it. Automatic reversible birth control at puberty, the whole population control gig. Maybe something along the lines of Larry Niven's Birthright Lotteries. If we're lucky, it'll be something like that.....

A friend of mine's wife put her baby in the car while in the garage. She then realized she forgot something in the house. So, she ran back into the house for a second. Unfortunately, she also unlatched the parking brake, and left a manual transmission in neutral. (Don't ask me why anyone would EVER do something so stupid).

While she was in the house, the car rolled out of the garage, and down a rather steep driveway, across the street, and into a brick wall!

As scary as this story sounds - it's not really - because no one was hurt. Well, except the car and the wall.

But from that moment on, I always looked at that woman as a completely irresponsible ass.

So, I agree with the tone of this thread that this woman should be punished for leaving her kids unattended.

Similar story to Ral:
When I was 3, my mom left me in a running car while picking up my sister at dance lessons.

I unbuckled myself and put the car into reverse: the car flew backwards down a hill and crashed into someone's front porch. That someone was the director of a daycare my mom started an investigation on because they were negligent/abusive. The director looked at the car in her porch, then my mom and said, "You want to talk about child abuse?"

Anyway, the mom in TFA is a POS. I think in cases of child abuse/neglect, they shold offer free sterilization for a reduction in sentence.
