So, a tough-talking, angry local official who believes "justice for all" means "justice for white conservatives" is about to get a federal smackdown? Where have I seen this before...?

A Terrible Human: JonnyG: While I don't particularly agree with his policing policies, I have to say that I have absolutely no issue with his treatment of inmates. As bad as it could possibly get, I would have no issue with it... and it's not bad. They're inmates - They don't deserve rights. Those "rights" cost taxpayers millions and millions of dollars.

Yes and not investigating sex crimes because the victims are brown is okay too.

/fark you everyone deserves rights.

rufus-t-firefly: JonnyG: While I don't particularly agree with his policing policies, I have to say that I have absolutely no issue with his treatment of inmates. As bad as it could possibly get, I would have no issue with it... and it's not bad. They're inmates - They don't deserve rights. Those "rights" cost taxpayers millions and millions of dollars.

Yeah, "human" rights aren't for ALL humans, are they?

Bleeding hearts like this are a big reason why crime is such a huge issue. The best way to eliminate crime is to eliminate the criminals. Screw human rights for all. "Rights" are why we can't discipline our children anymore, thus making the problems with today's youth what they are. "Rights" are why the education and juvenile justice systems are such a mess. "Rights" are why we pay out the ass to fund the lives of murderers who often live better than the taxpayers supporting them.

Criminals disregard their victims' rights rather frequently, yet we rush to ensure they are comfortable, spoiled, well fed, entertained, and whatever else. It's f**king ridiculous. This whole "rights" thing needs to be seriously examined for the better of society. If you ain't contributing (assuming you are able to), you get no rights. What's not fair about that? And it should go for everyone, including youth.

Obama better extradite him to Nuevo Laredo just to be sure he gets an all Mexican jury. Interesting that they're going after Arpaio but left then Mayor Gavin Newsome alone after his protege murdered a woman's entire family. Newsome is a rising light in the Dumboshat party and Lieutenant Governor to Mr. Moonbeam so he's untouchable. Really they should have a change of venue and bring Newsome down to Orange County, we'd hang him high.

I have to say, Obama has impressed me with his campaign tactics. The women's rights/contraception issue appeared to be the opening salvo in his effort to make the hate filled loons in this country show all their cards. Between the gay marriage announcement and now this investigation, he's doing an amazing job.

I keep a very comprehensive, extended ignore list that rarely gets updated these days sense I have all the trolls and morons on there. Until this thread. Found 4 new additions in about 2 minutes. That shows that he's doing a good job of rattling some cages.

farking A... This will be... Interesting.

This guy is one of the people that really scare me, because he could be a flashpoint.

To elaborate: its obvious that he has been involved in corruption and shady dealings that would make Nixon blush. Worse, he's had decades to get used to being a semi-omnipotent tyrant. He doesn't take kindly to being told he can't do something.

And for months, the right wing media will be fellating him as a patriotic defender of America from the twin threats of violent illegals and a meddling Big Government willing to surrender our homeland in order to be more PC. The facts won't farking matter... They won't even be discussed. It will all be regurgitations of Jack Nicholson's speech from "A Few Good Men", Sheriff Joe is being persecuted, etc etc etc.

Worst case scenario, he starts to realize he might very well see the inside of a jail cell, and he stops playing along. Refuses to cooperate in any way, with armed deputies backing him up.

I think its more likely to happen with a popular local official than someone at the state/national level who has more of a vested interest in the stability of the system. And after months of slobbering on his knob, I just don't know if the right wing media is adroit enough to pivot on him instead of encouraging armed defiance of the federal government.

Hell, you know its too good of a story to turn away from. And all the conspiracy theories, paranoia, and apocalyptic raving that they have nurtured these many years will bite them in the ass.

Because, like it or not, the Establishment Republicans would rather see Democrats control the government for another 30 years, than a weakend USA. They are the 1%, they have the most to lose.

But as Dick Lugar just showed us, the team of horses pulling the GOP stagecoach stampeded long ago. Now they're out of control, and will gladly gallop off a cliff while the party elders bicker in the cab about whether they should have taken a left turn at Albequerque.

Point is, I hope if it gets to that point, Sheriff Joe chooses to eat a gun rather than take us all down with him. Because he has the potential to be very dangerous...

Reading the comments there shows the start of a good flame war.

Don't know about this guy. He's made jail something the prisoners don't want to return to, which is what should happen all over, but he's used some questionable techniques. He's saved the State a bunch of money by feeding them other than Grade A foods yet made sure the food fit within normal health guidelines.

However, a prisoner or two has died, apparently due to being shoved out in his overheated tent city. Yet keeping them out of the a/c has decreased their urge to fight with each other because it's simply too darn hot.

His own guards have to tolerate the heat also, though they can step into air conditioned trucks or buildings for relief now and then.

We're at the time when criminals seem to have more rights than their victims and it has become a badge of honor in a couple of cultures to have a prison record. A whole generation thrives on clothing from prison culture and music encouraging bad behavior. Rap artists get better press and street credit if they wind up being thrown in jail an few times.

At least one culture takes deep pride in displaying prison and gang tattoos.

So, when we catch these animals, we have to treat them better than the homeless living on the streets who are trying to stay OUT of prison? Guards have to RESPECT the gangs in the prisons and the courts are usually clogged with stupid lawsuits prisoners write mainly to be a pain in the arse.

Prisoners kill each other off and we shove them in solitary, but now there are rising complaints that keeping them there is bad for their mental health. I suspect that their being cold blooded killers just might mean their mental health is already compromised.

Plus, no matter what they say, 80% of the crime is caused by two minority groups, which is going to make the cops suspicious, and then they'll cry discrimination when they get stopped more than others. (Even as the cops confiscate their crack pipes, dig guns out from the car seats, find their stash of crack and observe the blunts which mysteriously appeared outside of the car.)

Give them prisoner rights and they keep on coming. Take away prisoner rights and they still keep on coming. Have the death penalty, and they slow down, until others start biatching about the 'cruelty' of putting a mad dog killer of women and children down for the count with a needle instead of a rope.

This is going to be an interesting fight.

Um, yeah. About that:

The ACLU proved at the 2008 trial that the sheriff routinely abused pre-trial detainees at Maricopa County Jail by feeding them moldy bread, rotten fruit and other contaminated food, housing them in cells so hot as to endanger their health, denying them care for serious medical and mental health needs and keeping them packed as tightly as sardines in holding cells for days at a time during intake.

Things are marginally better there now, but only because he got caught.

Actually there was more to my last reply than what is there but what ever mysterious Fark gods there are left it out. So as not to be accused of thread jacking.... "Go Sheriff what's his name!" and "Go DOJ!"
Now back to what ever it was I was doing... yea... lurking.

No, it's alright, trust me. Let's talk about beer. It will be slightly less contentious than what this thread is becoming. So, YOU are the reason my beer cap said "hated by many, loved by few"
Incidentally, i found a local pub with Bastard on tap. Joy!

I would be willing to have some Bastard on tap. Would never say no to that. For what ever reason I never acquired the taste for hoppy stuff or for Belgian ales. Though I will drink the hoppy stuff if no other choice, I have found the Belgian stuff a bit too stinky for my tastes. It's doubtful I'd find Bastard on tap anywhere near here (far north of Chicago where every thing is Sam 'puke' Adams.

"Hey! DOJ sucks!".... "NO! Sheriff Joe is a douche!"... does that about sum it up so far?

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about New Castle?

It's been a few years since I've had it. In fact I think I was on a New Castle binge there for a month or so. I can't remember a whole lot about it to be honest. I think my tastes just moved on from it.

Seems in line with what I was thinking. Well, i wish you luck with your beer selections in the future. I suppose it's no consolation that I probably have at least 100-150 different beers in stores within a mile of me =D. Have you considered moving, you know, for better beer?

I have quite a few places with-in sp ...

Fantastic. Things aren't nearly as bleak as I thought at first.
Glad to hear it. I'm not a fan of Sam Adams either, fortunately all of the bars around here always have a few things worth drinking. Anyway, nite, happy trails.

abb3w: wademh: I'm really hoping he flees to Mexico and is filmed being caught in an episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter as the star of a Tijuana donkey show.

FTFY?

Why not both?

As much as this makes me giggle, this dude has a lot of dirt on some of our local politicians. He's practically untouchable and he knows it. This is gonna be fun. Once a Fed...

Duh, everyone knows you flee to Brazil. The Mexicans aren't going to help that f*cker.

Those dickwads lost their rights when they broke the law and ended up in the slammer.

Get back to work scumbags!

JonnyG: While I don't particularly agree with his policing policies, I have to say that I have absolutely no issue with his treatment of inmates. As bad as it could possibly get, I would have no issue with it... and it's not bad. They're inmates - They don't deserve rights. Those "rights" cost taxpayers millions and millions of dollars.

Here is the problem with it. A percentage of the inmate population at tent city are not convicts, but folks to poor to bail out while awaiting trial. I would have less problem with his pink underwear crap if it were only actual convicts who were being detained there. Oh, and the whole sweetheart deal thing for the relatives pink underwear concession...
Also, rights are rights, not conveniences.
