Are there any other wingnut heart attack inducing policies he could cram in to today?

I'd really like to see him just go nuts and start pissing on pictures of Reagan or something.

...and now he can live the Republican dream, claiming to be the victim of left wing persecution.

PHOENIX - Federal authorities say they intend to file a lawsuit against Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio and his department over allegations of civil rights violations.

The U.S. Justice Department sent a letter dated Wednesday to lawyers for the Maricopa County sheriff, giving his office "notice of intent to file civil action."

yeah---they intend to, and they are sending a notice of intent----------

still has to happen. i wonder how long it will take, and then wonder if and when it ever comes to trial.

I'd like to hope that one day he runs afoul of some Mexican drug cartel, a few hours of him being dragged south of the border to a remote farmhouse, and then things get chainsaw-y

And why do you think this hasn't happened yet? Hmm?

MorrisBird: I'm going to disagree with you on that. RICO is incredibly easy to establish. And, I don't know why you're excluding the sheriff's office as a corrupt organization. Have you ever been involved in a criminal RICO action? Because, I have.

MorrisBird: Gyrfalcon: They'd have to prove there was some racketeering and/or corrupt ORGANIZATION (besides the sheriff's office) going on, and that's a tough nut to make.

I'm going to disagree with you on that. RICO is incredibly easy to establish. And, I don't know why you're excluding the sheriff's office as a corrupt organization. Have you ever been involved in a criminal RICO action? Because, I have.

Wow, you're in the Mafia? I'm impressed. ;)

I have never heard of a sheriff's department being indicted as a corrupt organization under RICO. I'm delighted to learn it can be done. I was under the impression it was hard to do, since it never seems to be done to bring down the gangs that everyone frets about here in Los Angeles. I'd have thought RICO would be the best way to nail those thugs.

Genuine question: If it's not hard to do, why isn't it done more often?

I understand that the word on the street is that this guy is a class A douchebag who feeds his inmates rotting swill and he is slightly more racist than the Grand Kleagle, and that's pretty lame, but.. um, like.. this - "Arpaio's office has been accused of racially profiling Latinos, basing immigration patrols" I mean, he's 60 miles from the Mexican border. What illegal immigrants SHOULD he be looking for? Renegade Swedes, ducking into Phoenix and opening lutefisk stands with no EIN?

2012-05-09 08:48:50 PM
While I don't particularly agree with his policing policies, I have to say that I have absolutely no issue with his treatment of inmates. As bad as it could possibly get, I would have no issue with it... and it's not bad. They're inmates - They don't deserve rights. Those "rights" cost taxpayers millions and millions of dollars.

The one-two punch of Obama publicly announcing his support of gay marriage and this suit might be enough to warrant this as a good day in the history of civil rights and liberties in this country and a blow against bigotry and discrimination.

/At the same time that usually more moderate state above me just banned gay marriage and civil unions, and states across the country are trying to enact many of the same racially profiling laws as exist in Arizona.
So probably not.

Instead of constantly wasting the taxpayer's money suing other American's, maybe this DOJ could begin going after the illegals with that cash. Maybe? Too obvious?

When the Supreme Court hears this case, they will rule that Sheriff Arpaio is innocent and force the federal government to pay not only his legal expenses but also $10 billion in punitive damages for harassing a decent American citizen just trying to do his job in a messed-up world.

And that the Bush administration passed on criminally prosecuting.

This means that the case was downgraded to a civil case 11 days before Obama was inaugurated, 26 days before Eric Holder became attorney general, and about nine months before Thomas Perez was confirmed as head of the Civil Rights Division.

Pathetic trolls are truly pathetic.

Gyrfalcon: 1. Civil rights violations are a crime. A big-ass crime if you're a law enforcement officer.

Not true - 42 USC § 2000a-5 (i.e. the Civil Rights Act) gives the Attorney General the power to file "a civil action in the appropriate district court of the United States by filing with it a complaint

(1) signed by him (or in his absence the Acting Attorney General),
(2) setting forth facts pertaining to such pattern or practice, and
(3) requesting such preventive relief, including an application for a permanent or temporary injunction, restraining order or other order against the person or persons responsible for such pattern or practice, as he deems necessary to insure the full enjoyment of the rights herein described"

where the Attorney General "has reasonable cause to believe that any person or group of persons is engaged in a pattern or practice of resistance to the full enjoyment of any of the rights secured by this subchapter, and that the pattern or practice is of such a nature and is intended to deny the full exercise of the rights herein described."

Fluorescent Testicle: Cyberluddite: An easier way to get him would be to make it a federal crime to be a huge attention whore. If it were, that farktard would be such a repeat offender that he would probably be subject to the death penalty.

Wouldn't that result in the forced closure of Fox News, the Tea Party and the WBC?

... I am entirely for this. CYBERLUDDITE 2012.

If Attention Whoring becomes a federal offense then a particular Farkette would be in big trouble.

Serious Black: When the Supreme Court hears this case, they will rule that Sheriff Arpaio is innocent and force the federal government to pay not only his legal expenses but also $10 billion in punitive damages for harassing a decent American citizen just trying to do his job in a messed-up world.

Well sure, I suppose that ten billion will be a pretty penny to all of those Latinos who just happened to be naturally born citizens and were harassed by the dear Sheriff.
