OBAMA DECLARES WAR ON MARRIAGE!

Ricardo Klement: The GOP was on the wrong side of history in 1860?

Ask their supporters in The South. They'll agree.

2012-05-09 05:20:15 PM
They are going to fire his ass so hard. He literally said that the GOP was "without question" on the wrong side of history on gay marriage, live on the air, in a matter-of-fact tone.

2012-05-09 05:23:09 PM
Obama just supported gay rights AND proved evolution is real in one sentence. No wonder Republicans are pissed.

Conservatives have been on the wrong side of history in the US every time.

This.

Also in the new and improved history... the Civil War wasn't about slavery (it was about state rights). So even when they are in the off-chance that they are right side of history, they rewrite it to compensate.

I would gay marry Shep Smith.

kbronsito: the Civil War wasn't about slavery (it was about state rights).

I'd invite them to read the CSA constitution vs the US constitution as well as a few documents written by the New and Improved Founding Fathers on the matter. But I doubt they'd read them.

Not to get argumentative, but notice that the Union's reason for going to war was NOT about slavery, even if the South's was.

Not to pick nits, but I don't think the term "GOP" was used until well after 1860.

OK, I am picking nits. Deal.

Brietbart was about to come out as gay, and we know what happened to him. Look out Shep!

His contract us up October 2013 if my math is right. I expect he'll leave after that, if he doesn't leave early.

I've always liked Shep Smith.

I see a political career in that man's future, if only because the current crop of the GOP is about as endearing as the KKK.

Ricardo Klement: The GOP was on the wrong side of history in 1860?

Technically speaking, the predecessors to the modern GOP were on the right side of history, or at least, orthogonal.

Shep is like the Rosa Parks of FoxNews.

Yeah, it's not so much that the Republicans have always been on the wrong side of history, it's that the far right is always on the wrong side of history and the GOP has chosen to align themselves that way. They weren't always wrong and evil, they made that choice.

WAR ON MARRIAGE!!!!!!111ONE1111

meanwhile, ther's absolutely no war on women. at all. none. no evidence whatsoever. Just one or two isolated incidents by... um... oversealous rogue staffers. yeah, that's it.

No they won't. He's one of the very few reasons Fox can still claim to be "fair and balanced."

//always liked Shep

I liked it when Shep Smith said "blow job" instead of "curb job" when talking about JLo. I LOL'd at that horny bastard.

Shep has made a point over the years to distance himself from some of the bone crazy around him. I sort of feel bad for the fella.

Yeah. Between Lincoln becoming the most monstrous tyrant ever to menace these fair shores and the lolworthy assertion that the Free Market™ would've eliminated slavery in another 20 years or so anyway, the GOP has managed to retcon themselves out of the one thing they ever got right.

Ricardo Klement: The GOP was on the wrong side of history in 1860?

The "GOP" (modern usage) didn't oppose slavery, they opposed the spread of slavery to new territories because it would give the southern slave block in congress even more power (the 3/5 clause gave them additional seats for people not really represented).

It was only like three days ago.

Considering the Confederates fired on a federal installation, their reasons are all that matter.

Somebody should reply: "Good. Both sides agree that it should be legal. Let's make it legal."

Then back off a bit and watch.

Don't forget the northern religious fundies who were vehemently opposed to not only slavery but the consumption of alcohol. It was kind of like a coalition of people who believed slavery was why God was punishing America a la gays caused 9/11 and the dudes you're talking about.

Shepard Smith needs to have his own political show, but I wouldn't necessarily want to see him on CNN or MSNBC. He seems to have a nice balance of opinions in his reporting.

He could be the Anti-Keith Olbermann. Reasonable and a popular reporter with a non-diva attitude.

So that's the reason he decided to support gay marriage. To see if he could get Fox to go Full Retard. I missed that earlier.

The man is a genius.

It's mostly asserting that Shep must be, as one would assume, a homosexual, has AIDS, etc.
One fella expressed ambivalence to the whole topic, but one voice in a place full of gnashing teeth.

/feels dirty going to that place

a fair point. in 1860, the republican party was the liberal party. this is more of a conservative/liberal issue.

Poor Shepard Smith. Everyone knows he has existed as the exclusive veneer of integrity at Fox News. He was their pet journalist. Being named "Shep" didn't help.

He's going to carry that stink with him wherever he tries to go.

Nobody in the history of broadcasting has ever gayed off my gaydar more than Shep Smith. Has he ever been remarried since 1993? I'm wondering if his latest comments were driven by empathy more than anything else. Because what I'm saying is that he just might be gayer than 4 gay guys sucking off 8 gay guys.

Allowing homosexuals to serve openly and proudly in the U.S. Military is the single worst thing that has ever happened in American history. That infamous act of the U.S. Congress and the U.S. President, has cut America off from any further access to the resources of Divine Providence. You want to be like other nations? Now you will get the chance.

Republicans seem really upset for some reason.

Yet the Southern States seemed to think there was a plan to out-and-out get rid of slavery. In "Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union," they state that the newly elected president (they didn't use Lincoln's name) was going to outlaw slavery. That was a very important reason for breaking away from the United States. The breaking away from the United States? A very important reason for the Civil War.

From the document:
"A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery. He is to be entrusted with the administration of the common Government, because he has declared that that "Government cannot endure permanently half slave, half free," and that the public mind must rest in the belief that slavery is in the course of ultimate extinction. "

Yeah, the South left because they were afraid Lincoln would put an end to slavery. They were correct. Not right, but correct.
