"I have the same view on marriage that I had when I was Governor," Romney said.

This is, of course, the man who order same sex marriage licenses to be issued while he was governor.

Aarontology: This is, of course, the man who order same sex marriage licenses to be issued while he was governor.

I was just wondering about that, was homosexual marriage allowed in Masshole while he was governor?

Maybe it's like health care, it's OK at the state level but not federal?

I went to a gay marriage in Massachusetts while Mitt Romney was governor.

Why is it such a virtue in politics to have one opinion and never change that opinion, even though facts and reality show you that your opinion is totally incorrect?

That's what I never understood with the whole "flip-flopper" label. Why is open-mindedness a bad thing?

Of course I don't mean to include people who say whatever they think people want to hear. I'm talking about a legitimate change in a person's opinion.

A sign of the progress in gay rights. St. Patrick's day used to be "we're here we're Irish get used to it" back when this was common.

Agreed. Romney goes after Obama and ultimately draws attention to his own ultimate weakness. Nice.

Obama's trolling here is quite masterful. He has a very light touch, like a safecracker or a pickpocket, or a guy who burns down a bar for the insurance money.

If you troll right, people won't be sure you've really trolled at all.

I have an honest question to ask because I am genuinely curious.

On the issue of Gay Marriage, IS Mitt Romney a flip-flopper? Has he changed his tune?

I ask this only because I see it as two separate issues. He may have beliefs that marriage is only between a man and woman, BUT his dealing out same-sex marriage certificates during his tenure as Governor is for the betterment of his state and it's people.

An example: I loathe Child Molesters and I personally believe they should be left on a prison island somewhere in the pacific to live out their lives away from the rest of society. BUT, even though I believe that, I know that it isn't possible for various reasons (basic human rights, legal ramifications, economic costs, etc.).

So would that make me a flip-flopper? I don't believe so. A hypocrite maybe, but I'm not changing my position on the issue.

Has Mitt Romney previously stated that he believes homosexuals have the right to marry and then changed his tune? Or is it that his own beliefs and the legal rights within his state are simply different?

Honestly, not trying to troll. i'd like to know if he has changed his stance, or if it's just belief vs. legality?

2012-05-09 11:02:40 PM
Wait, the guy who put out campaign mailers directly stating he's be better for gay rights than Ted farking Kennedy and who is now a tool of the far right fundies is the guy who's never changed his position?

And Obama is now the flip flopper?

Newsflash: Mitt Romney is an atheist.

Seriously, if he actually believed in a God he'd know damn well he'd be going to Hell for all the lying he's been doing in this campaign.

I seriously believe the main reason the Mormon church spend all that money in California to fight against gay marriage was to give Mitt cred among the fundocrats in the Republican party who want to turn the US into a Christian version of Iran.

The man has no moral center.

All he wants ins to win in order to one up his dad and lower his own already too low taxes and turn the US into a neo-feudal state.

And if America votes for him in large numbers that's what y'all deserve.

I want to see Obama play Trololo at his reinauguration instead of the National Anthem.

That would be amazing.

2012-05-09 11:04:18 PM
Obama did do himself a disservice with the announcement. While the lib lib lib side of me is happy that he's supporting equality, the practical side of me sees Mr. Obama turning an election that should be about the economic extremism of the Tea Party and Romney's cozy relationship with Wall Street into a "culture war" election about the gays while at the same time arguing for tax cuts. Does he just want to piss away every single state outside of the Northeast and California? This should have been a slam dunk, instead he's just offering up red meat for the Republican base. For someone who ran such an effective 2008 campaign he is really floundering in 2012.

The difference is Obama explained why he changed his stane on Gay Marriage. When Romney flip flops he tries to pretend he never had the opposing opinion.
