Yeah, add "reading books" to that screed and you really get to the heart of this asshole's problem with other people.

It's kinda cool, in a circa 1997 way.

In Washington? Sure he can. Hell, he could even register it here in California and we have some dickish laws on what you can drive. All he has to do is get a certificate of inspection and get his DMV to issue him a VIN.

You do know that people build their own cars all the time, right?

I think the difference he's getting at is that he's creating something whereas in the other hobbies all you do is passively consume content created by someone else.

In his eyes video games and movies are less hobbies and more time wasters.

I don't watch much TV these days, but I still play on the computer, as well as garden a lot.

The physical activity helps offset the long days in the office and long nights playing Skyrim after the sun goes down.

However, he should realize that what he's creating is pointless. If he wants to create so badly, he should go build a farking house. But a shiatty racecar? That's as pointless as all the "time wasters".

I've built a number of cars from scratch, like actually from scratch. Built a tubular frame, body, motor, etc. I've got pics around but they're slides and I haven't scanned them. I'm currently building/restoring an electric ultralight aircraft (putting an electric flight system in a Lazair) and a couple of motorcycles. This guy is a dumb ass putting a body on an old Toyota. STFU and GTFO.

No one's against innovation. But Let's be honest, though... this jerk-off's little "racecar" isn't going to go anywhere but his garage. It's not going to be revolutionary, it's not going to be seen by a car exec and become the new standard for automobiles... it's going to be a time waster project for some jerk-off that might get him some really skanky pussy.

The end.

If you're mechanically inclined, you should. You get something utterly tailored to you, and different than anything else on the road.

And it's fun. Good for the headmeats.

Huh.
I've just been trying to figure out how to get around the legal hurdles of converting a Ford Ranger to run on natural gas. The technology is there, but the national laws about changing engine fuels look to make it cost prohibative.
Since nat'gas is as cheap as dirt, I am tempted to fly under the radar.

I don't think there are any legal hurdles - people have converted just about everything under the sun to run on Propane - there's even a lively discussion on Rangers, specifically:

If something like that were street-legalable (yes, a new word) around here, I'd be more than intrigued to subscribe to your newsletter.

I appreciate what the guy is doing, but he certainly leaps to a ton of assumptions to think that he's the only biped in existence doing a labor of love on his own time.

Well, it is! The Westfield's registered, licensed, and 100% total road legal. Even insured under Geico - and I pay $23 a month to insure it, cheaper than my beater Toyota.

That pic is me showing up to a random show in New England :)

So he works on the car before and after work - I can be smug too: If you're not dead-tired when you get home that means you were a lazy fark during the day and should probably put in some more effort.

One of my hobbies is programming video games that I dream up, and they only get played by my friends at the end. I wonder whether that would be worthy on this guy's continuum.
