PsiChi: hbk72777: I'd rather have vote for a crusty old, piece of shiat Republican that tells it like they think it is than vote back in a pandering asshole like Obama. His thoughts on gays are "evolving" , yeah, that's not a cop out. He can kiss the ass of the gays, then turn around to the bible thumpers and say "welllllllll, I'm not totally convinced, I can see their point of view, but I haven't really decided, so I'm still on your side"

Yes, I seem to recall that O-liar wouldn't even have his picture taken with the San Francisco mayor during his "run" for the presidency. That was probably in 2008. But fellating farkers will continue to adore his hypocritical ass...

LOL what? Gavin Newsome looks gay but he is not gay...so what is the meaning of this Non-sequetor otherwise?

HeartBurnKid: Personally, I think the Biden thing was a gaffe

What makes me think that was the fact that he had to walk it back afterwards and "clarify" that it isn't the administration's position.

If it was deliberate he would have so qualified his support of gay marriage right off the bat.

Boxcutta: I disagree with those who think that the White House has been testing this message or that it was based on polling data or some sort of strategic move. Obama had to say something because Crazy Joe Biden's off-message comments have dominated three news cycles now. He is in so much trouble right now for shooting his mouth off right now.

Or, Obama had Crazy Joe intentionally say some Crazy Joe type stuff and then poll the snot out of it after he said it. If it polled badly, he could just say it was Crazy Joe being Crazy Joe. But, clearly, it polled fine, so...

nekom: make me some tea: I'm still trying to figure out why he didn't before, but anyway that's good to hear. Should bump up his numbers a bit.

Will it? You have to admit that there ARE Democrats out there that oppose same sex marriage. Nowhere near as many as there are Republicans, but they do exist. I'm not sure what he `wins' politically by doing this.

It might just bring out the youngin's to vote for him again. They're pretty disillusioned.

You are aware that you're talking about a political party where a majority of its members from at least one state agree that interracial marriages are immoral?

Forced inter-sex intercourse and contract childbearing? What a stupid question. BTW there are plenty of child rearing gay parents that even did it the natural way.

EWreckedSean: Elections don't work that way for president. He has to look at a state by state look. The 60 billion people in New York and Cali supporting Gay Marriage doesn't matter to him, he can't lose those states.

Right. And anyone who doesn't understand that the Obama campaign has modeled the outcomes on this issue in every single district in every single battleground state before making the decision to firmly support gay marriage really has no idea how these major campaigns work. It's a politically pragmatic decision that appears to coincide with Obama's personal views on the issue. But if polling did not establish that this is likely to work for the Dems on multiple levels, the middling would have undoubtedly continued.

So now the Republicans have another hate issue dumped squarely in their laps, and Romney can't run away from it. In order to campaign, he must be a hater, and Obama coasts pretty easily on a political position that is morally acceptable to him.

Win. Win. Win.

Bio-nic: Because now it gives him political capital. Until NC passed their constitutional amendment it was a social issue more than a political, now it's a 100% full on political issue that he can /rage again.

Maybe so, but it comes at the expense of possibly losing some of the Democrats who would normally vote for him but may REALLY oppose same sex marriage. I'm not sure how many of them would be compelled to vote for Rmoney or stay home because of it, maybe I'm just being too `concerned', but it seems like a risky move to me. Seems like he has more to possibly lose than to possibly gain, but then I've been wrong before. We'll see.

kukukupo: D_Evans45: kukukupo: As it stands at this minute; I'm a possible Obama voter (I don't see much difference between Obama/Romney) but if he comes out pro-federal-gay, I would probably vote for Romney to keep the status quo.

You're voting over someone who is taking over our future for the next 4-8 years. How could something as trivial as gayness possibly affect your thinking so much? Just what is it about accepting gays that upsets you so much?

It has more to do with the idea of individual state's rights in my personal opinion. If a populous doesn't want to recognize a gay marriage - they should be allowed to govern these social issues by themselves. If you want gay marriage - great! Vote for it and allow it in your state (or move somewhere that allows it).

I believe the states should be able to regulate it much in the same way they can determine legal age of consent, blood test requirements, Residency requirements, etc for marriage licenses.

I hate this argument. How about we say "blacks" and "voting" instead of "gay" and "marriage". Should the states still get to decide?

Honestly, I think it's the exact opposite. The Republicans have run an incredibly stupid primary election that has backed their moderate candidate into a conservative position that make him look like a huge hypocrite. It has not taken much political genius to add a log while watching the Republicans self-immolate.

The problem for Obama is that it has looked so damn easy so far because of all the Republican idiocies that the majority of Dems have put their feet up and are just watching the show as if it's a done deal. Carville was on TV yesterday almost apoplectic (yeah, the usual for him) over Democratic indifference. The Dems need black and white, us vs. them issues to cause that money cascade into the PACs, and gay marriage and other social issues that the Republicans are trying to f*ck people over on are the perfect catalysts. Expect Obama to keep kicking the GOP in the nuts on social issues because Dems rally to the wails of Conservatives trying to impose their theocracy.

2012-05-09 04:47:27 PM
I honestly think that Obama lives in a bubble where everone around him supports gay marriage and that he honestly believes that the vast majority of Americans want it and that poll results like the one in North Carolina yesterday are just a fluke caused by a minority of homophobic tea partiers (sort of how he has explained away the 2010 midterm elections). I think (I hope) he's in for a very rude surprise this November...

Do Republicans understand concepts like irony and cognitive dissonance?

but...it does. Because it standardized interest rates, and with the Special Direct Consolidation Loan, students can take their old loans, consolidate them in with the new Direct Loans, and get a .25% interest rate rebate.

.25% is a direct savings into students pockets.

No, the $68B over 10 years that was going to middle man banks is now being used to fund more student loans. That's a fact. Full stop.

There is absolutely a problem with the rising cost of tuition and this reform is not and was not proposed as a solution to that problem. So. Yeah. Are we done here?

make me some tea: It might just bring out the youngin's to vote for him again. They're pretty disillusioned.

It might, maybe that's what they're gambling on. If it weren't for starry-eyed college age idealists, he'd not have won in 2008. A lot of them were under the impression that he was going to ride into Washington on horseback and just start kicking ass and turn everything around. That didn't pan out. That's not a criticism of Obama, but as anyone who has paid attention for a bit knows, Presidents do not work that way!

Maybe they're hoping for a kick in the pants for that crowd again, get them out there not just voting but campaigning. If that outweighs any votes he may stand to lose it's worth it.

For the record, I FULLY support the rights of homosexuals to marry, I'm just playing armchair political strategist here.
