You know he personally doesn't believe this? Wow, do you have access to his head? That's kind of neat. Like Being John Malkovich?

Mrtraveler01: Biological Ali: Also, the people assuming that Obama coming out for gay marriage can be counted on to energize fundies to vote for Romney may be forgetting a few things, such as the state that Romney actually governed. With the right kind of awareness campaign, I'm sure those people could easily be reminded that, if these really are their values, there are plenty of reasons for them not to vote for Romney either.

To be fair, Romney can actually take credit for helping legalize Gay Marriage in MA.

May 17, 2004: Gov. Romney ordered town clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples as per the Supreme Judicial Court's ruling, 180 days after it was issued, without the legislative action called for by the actual ruling. The city of Cambridge began processing applications at one minute past midnight, cheered on by a crowd of five thousand gathered outside City Hall. Massachusetts has a three-day waiting period after a marriage application has been issued, but couples can seek a judicial waiver of that requirement.[24] The first marriage was issued to Tanya McCloskey and Marcia Kadish, of the Boston suburb of Malden - was finalized by 9:15 a.m. on May 17.[25]

MY POINT EXACTLY--which is why the Democratic party is wetting their pants. You can endorse shiat all you want-but having actually DONE IT.. Just sayin.

Obama stepped out and supported gay marriage. Now we have to step out and support him. For every independent and conservative vote he just lost, we need to make up for it with an independent or progressive vote.

SuperNinjaToad: Obama just lost the swing state of NC in the general and many black and hispanic votes not to mention white 'Christian' democrats.
While I admire his stance and personal convictions on the issue (instead of flip flopping), even he must know his statement on this issue just cost him a few points if not more. His advisor must be hitting his head on his head when he heard the news.

US has always been right of center.... Obama may have very well just handed the Presidency to Romney.

You sound very concerned.

Gwendolyn: Corvus: So who that have been biatching about Obama not doing this is now going to volunteer or give money to his campaign because of this?

Or is this going to be like DADT repeal and quickly forgotten about to move to then next biatch that Obama is not perfect?

This election cycle all my money and effort is saved for fighting for marriage equality here in Maryland. The jackasses can block the new law with a ballot measure.

So was his statement important or not? If you think it was very important don't you have to do something to support it? Or should his "reward" for making his statement just be losing votes?

No way! Didn't see that coming.

Funny thing is that most Farkers will actually believe him.

Sure this is a purely political decision, but Obama has not shown that he's someone who opposes civil rights. Just because he's been playing the politics of this issue does not mean that his decision does not truly reflect his personal view.

Honestly, at this point I don't care - the Democrats have tried the "we're going to let our positions of freedom, equality, and taking care of the sick speak for themselves" and let them be turned into "you want the terrorists to win, you're in a war against religion and families, and you want to create death panels".

At some point, there's just a reality that you have to actually play politics in order to win some of these battles at the national level

If he does, it pushes Romney more towards Rick S and probably gains Obama more vote differential than he would have lost (i.e. Repubs who are slightly right of center but would stay home if it is a teaparty member).

Boxcutta: I disagree with those who think that the White House has been testing this message or that it was based on polling data or some sort of strategic move. Obama had to say something because Crazy Joe Biden's off-message comments have dominated three news cycles now. He is in so much trouble right now for shooting his mouth off right now.

Sorry, but you are wrong. Obama could have simply ignored this. It wouldn't have hurt him a bit. At worst, he would just have to had said that the VP is entitled to his personal opinion and continued his standard dodge. And it hasn't "dominated three news cycles". It has been mentioned as a "mess at the White House", but everything I've seen coming out of the WH seems calm and calculated. I will almost bet money that at some point on Sunday, Obama called Biden to say "Good job, Joe! Now sit back and watch..." Then he called Arne and said "You're up!" If you don't get this, you don't understand presidential politics or Barack Obama. Joe Biden has said bone-headed things that have embarrassed his boss many times and hasn't got in much trouble yet.

Romney is definitively on the wrong side of the issue now that Obama has drawn the line. And Romney is also the flip-flopper who will sell out gays and lesbians to pander to the Tea party tards. As a general proposition, Romney is going to take a beating that forces him into the arms of the most conservative bigots in the country. That's all good for Obama.

He has this election in the bag.

Yeah, because it's been bought and paid for. That's why they had a clown posse for the Republican "contenders."

I read all sorts of crazy shiat on fark, but the thought Obama or someone actually engineered the Republican field of candidates this year is certainly a new and exceptionally stupid one.

Its also insulting. To say that about literally the very best of the Republican Party. The ones tried and tested, through and through, and found to be true President material. Everyone of those men a leader, brave and strong, to guide us into a new Golden Age. The audacity of the thought makes me cringe.

I have no problem with same-sex marriage. It's not a big issue as far as I am concerned. I voted no for a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in WI. I just find it humorous that all of these people don't see through this and really think that this is his true personal opinion.

I'm no bigot, but I saw the way these groups voted in California on Proposition 8. This at least has the potential to cause trouble with the President's relationship with those groups. Of course, the alternative for those groups is the GOP, who actively hate them, so I doubt many will go anywhere.
