(Boing Boing)   Obnoxious new anti-piracy warnings make DVD buying worse. For you younger folks: DVDs were hardcopies of digitized films that you couldn't legally transfer electronically. Strange, I know   (boingboing.net) divider line 257

Thank you for boldly protecting our nation, Department of Homeland Security.

So now I get an extra 8-10 seconds to go get a drink or a snack, go to the bathroom, make a quick call, or smoke a cigarette? This is a *yawn* outrage.

Non-skippable warnings are pretty farking stupid. I paid for your crappy movie and I have to sit through this shiat, while someone who downloads a ripped version doesn't have to see them at all? So the end result of your broken-ass logic is that the only person who needs to be punished is the one who actually gave you their money?

Go fark yourself, I'll just download.

/already do
//own a of purchased DVDs and BDs anyway

Thank God there are no new movies I care to own on DVD.

I don't buy DVDs. I don't rent them. I don't download movies.
It's all too complicated.

/I have a couple hundred VHS tapes. Get off my lawn.

Ah, you forgot:

Move to a different country and get a different region's DVD player: you can't play the content you've already legally paid for. Either pay again, or pay for a regionless DVD player, or pirate the content (pay, pay, or be a "criminal").

I'm not going to watch AnyDVD with these warnings, screw that!

And they wonder why people pirate? Oh well.

Your picture left some out. Sometimes I get an Interpol warning and warnings in languages I don't even speak. Also a commercial saying if you pirate you are killing babies or something.

OK, I'll bite, WTF does the DHS have to do with DVD pirating?

Or find the codes on the Internet that'll allow you to unzone your DVD player in less than a minute.

So, what would Farkers recommend for ripping my DVD collection to a digital format? I would really like to setup a media PC, Roku, or some other dedicated media device to my TV and be able to play my movies / TV shows I have in hard copy without needing to change discs. Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't know about the bakers, but several fisherman lost their jobs had to follow him around and retrain.

When you pirate, you're supporting terrorism. Do you really want to support terrorism?

/most movies are too shiatty to even bother pirating

And while you're at it, you can maybe pirate a few movies, amirite?

If I bought movies I would just rip them at full quality with my pirated nero, strip out the ads n stuff with pirated adobe suite then burn a full quality copy back onto the disc with pirated nero so it would just autoplay.

If those anti-piracy warnings are what it takes to prevent terrorists from financing their operations, then that's what has to be done.

can somebody please tell me why there is a 5 minute commercial for bluray disks at the beginning of every bluray disk?

That bluray would cost $10 more without the ad. You're welcome.

By the way, the views expressed in the commentary are not necessarily those of herpederp derp derp. Just in case you were going to watch the movie with the yakking commentary option on, for a more theater-realistic experience.

But first, lets watch three or four unskippable animated production logos.

That screen, like the others, presumably will be made unskippable during viewing.

Thank God for DVDFab, best DVD Duping proggie out there, IMHO, Rips, decodes, converts, all in one. Also lets you pick and choose what to keep and what not to keep, while telling you the quality of the copy, based on throwing away more stuff. On top of that, they specifically have a setting to remove these warnings. Every time there is a new protection scheme out, they have an update to counter it.

I had a professor in college who would show us movies, TV shows and music videos everyday. He said he'd give an automatic A to any student who would commit the FBI Warning to memory and could recite on finals day.

/not that it was necessary to get an A
//you just had to show up
///and write 3 papers on a movie, play or large production concert you attended

KAT & DVDFab FTW, it removes all those annoying things and the region limitation too.
