Well, there goes my long-standing faith in the veracity of information posted on the internet

/disillusionment hurts

The original story was traced back to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.

The Daily Fail strikes again!

The writer Simon Tomlinson, says he does not know where the story originated, despite its bearing his byline. "I've drawn a bit of a blank," he told MSNBC.

Translation: I made all that sh*t up but I'm not gonna admit that.

According to a conversation in the Yahoo comments, I was committing slander by saying so. Slander against the imaginary dentist and imaginary ex boyfriend, I guess.

I said at the time the Daily Mail was about as trustworthy as The Onion.

I found it unbelievable when I heard it... I mean, that's both high-level cruelty and a freaking felony.

The least the writer could have done was fabricate some general-anesthetic sexy time to make the story really pop. Daily Fail strikes again.

2012-05-09 04:41:46 PM
I actually heard that story on the radio, and i never listen to the radio. It's definitely in modern "urban myth" territory now.

Am I the only one who gets this annoying button that covers up part of the story on EVERY FREAKING YAHOO NEWS ARTICLE?!?!

Grrr, I'm mad!!!!

Oh come on, it was in the Daily Mail, the UK's answer to the Weekly World News. You mean people actually bought it?

2012-05-09 04:46:08 PM
Yep we knew it all along.

Give me a minute to look through that original thread so I can name all of you who called "fake".

Just one more reason fark should never link to the daily fail

Hmmm.....let's see. Loss of six-figure income and loss of freedom, or revenge on some schmucky ex-boyfriend. Of course the story was bullshiat.
I would never want to lose my license over some idiot ex of mine.

2012-05-09 04:51:45 PM
Well I kinda had my suspicions just because it would take a turbo charged retard to go to your ex for dentistry, but then again it is literally impossible to give too much credit for how stupid some people can be....

I pretty much don't trust any news that comes out of Eastern Europe, Africa, India or Asia. Mostly because it's hard to tell what is fake "Weekly World News" stuff and what isn't. Plus those cultures are rife with insane superstitions and folk beliefs anyway*

Korea: putting a fan in your bedroom will kill you
China: various animal parts extracted via torture are good for your yang
Russia: "Only in Russia"
EE: Gypsies will steal your balls, etc.
Central Asia: Gypsies will steal your cock, etc.
India: believe in leprechaun-like creatures, throw dead bodies in river to rot and then bathe and drink it
Africa: Muti, dismember albinos for magic spells, etc.

Yeah, but it made a woman look bad (ie, crazy), so that makes it OK. Even if it didn't actually happen, it COULD happen.

Meanwhile, a couple of women probably actually did get murdered by their husband/boyfriend/ex-boyfriend that day. No biggie.

Remember, in Farkworld, women are evil, soulless monsters and men simply their helpless pawns, because boobies.

The ending was boringly obvious, making it feel fake.

A real weird news story ends with the dentist trying to pull the boyfriend's teeth and then getting set on fire and attacked by a drunk lion, and then a dog gets raped or something. You know, those stories are becoming so common that subbies don't even bother with "the Aristocrats" in the headline any more.

Funny how so many of the Yahoo comments are "media doesn't verify sources" and "media can't be trusted"... in the comments section of a story where the someone in the media verified the source, and they are all trusting it to be true.

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious that folks were quoting other secondary sources that clearly verified the Daily Fail story by... quoting the Daily Fail story.

Oddly enough, the Daily Fail makes shiat up. It's not like this is a surprise.

This is such fine journalism our generation has helped create. It's like we get all of our news from drunk idiots. That and some people believe everything they read on the internet.

2012-05-09 06:35:02 PM
I guess I'm glad my headline for that story didn't get greened, then.

Exactly. I can't see a dentist doing something like that either. It would be like a veterinarian killing their exe's pet for revenge. A vet wouldn't DO something like that.

I'm also having my doubts about "dead babies ground up and put into capsules" story from the other day. The only reason I might go for that one is because I know how many weird things Asians believe in eating 'medicinally."

WE, US, etc: that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

USA : Pray to an imaginary sky wizard... Believe that the earth is 5000 years old...

You're so full of shiat. Isn't 'Weekly World News' and 'Daily fail' Western 'News'?

The west is full of shiat, just like the east.
