Nah. Single-payer is a moderate socialist version of health care. Single-payer still involves private provision of health care, private medical practices, private ownership of hospitals, etc. Only the funding is public.

A real "leftist" version of health care would be a government-run system, such as the NHS in Britain or the VA hospital system here in the US, in which the government owns and operates the hospitals and clinics in addition to funding care.

As long as the government can control prices for most services I don't think the Left has a problem leaving the system in mostly private hands. Plenty of things will never be covered by insurance. I actually think that Single Payer will cover most health concerns, but nothing heroic. Private health insurance would still exist to cover bleeding edge and highly expensive things. That means that you would need private insurance (bought individually or provided by an employer) to pay for that heart transplant, but the ER visit would be covered.

The idea of "race" is a cultural construct based primarily on superficial characteristics. Biologically/genetically, there is no such thing as "black" or "white" race. There are people considered black and people considered white by society for dumb cultural reasons but primarily because of ignorant preconceptions and bigotry.

Your post pointing out that Obama's mother is white is stupid for several reasons:

a) everyone knows this already
b) absolutely nothing to do with Obama being black
c) nothing do with accusations of bigotry against him
d) the "primary guardian" comment was exceptionally stupid for the same reason

Your post was stupid on more levels that I would have thought possible for a relatively short post.

People take all kinds of stupid and illogical positions when trying to get something to stick when they have so much rage and can't say what they want to say. Remember, with Clinton it was just focused on Whitewater and places that Bill's wiener has visited. With Obama, it is absolutely everything. They almost defaulted on our debt last summer just to score points.
