(SeattlePI)   Rupert Murdoch would like you to know he's totally in favor of a woman's right to vote, even if he lets whack-jobs appear on his TV networks who say it was "the greatest mistake America ever made"   (blog.seattlepi.com) divider line 80

antidisestablishmentarianism: AKTurkey: This is silly, everyone knows the greatest mistake America ever made was new coke.

I personally thought it was Crystal Pepsi.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Diogenes: This guy should team up with that pastor who said you should break your son's wrist if it goes limp, and you should force your athletic daughter to put on a dress and smell like a girl. They could make a buddy movie!

American Taliban, Fu*k Yeah!

Clemkadidlefark: Well, there is the whole White Males of Age With Property argument for voting rights

Only white people can be greedy and condescending? I'm offended. I'll share the spoils with a brother! And make sure that biatch brings us some drinks.

"Reverend"? That's weird. I thought extremist Muslims called their religious leader dudes "Imam", not "Reverend".

umad: The man has a point. Letting women make their own choices is how we ended up with shiat like Twilight and Justin Bieber.

You're not a woman until you're at least twice the Pedobear-acceptable age. If you are that age and you're still swooning over Twilight and Justin Bieber, you probably can't even count to potato and definitely shouldn't be allowed to reproduce or even be near children.

Two words: "Twilight Moms"

So...Fifty Shades of Grey has been passing around the water cooler at Fox News, huh?

So you are not a woman until you are 14?

Rupert Murdoch also loves black people. He thinks everybody should own one.

That's absolutely ridiculous.

That would put Pedobear-acceptable age at 7.

A couple years after women got the vote, the Prohibition Amendment passed.

fark women suffrage. They vote for stupid shiat.

bdub77: This is very easy to understand. See, Murdoch has the superhuman ability to spend his time micromanaging every detail of his media empire while simultaneously spending all his time being completely removed from the day to day managing of his business.

He is your standard businessman/politician prototype - able to accept praise and take credit for his many accomplishments while not actually being responsible for any failures. The Romneybot prototype was fashioned after Murdoch, but it still needs some tweaking.

To be fair, Murdoch could write a memo and tell his underlings to knock it off with the right wing shiat, but he doesn't as it makes him too much money. You're correct that it's silly to assume everyone on his channel is his personal mouthpiece, but he also doesn't do anything to reign his employees in either.

I'm beginning to think Fox News is being this ridiculous because they want Obama to win. This isn't out of the question- having a pro-business Democrat in office is very lucrative for Fox.

dingdingding! bingo. caught on weeks ago. there is way too much herp teh derp for these people to be serious. it's a trap!

CitizenTed: That's how the right-wing hate machine works, folks.

1) Make a patently absurd, fascist statement.
2) Make sure its presented in a way that rings with the audience.
3) Wait for furor.
4) Have alternate staffer offer a weak non-apology.
5) Lather, rinse, repeat.

End result: the mouth-breathing retards that comprise the Fox Faithful now seriously wonder if women's suffrage should be repealed so they can finally vote down welfare, education and equal rights protections.

So, basically, the Overton window. Which, by an amazing coincidence, is also the title of a novel book by Glen Beck.

Nadie_AZ: So when is Fox News going to repudiate and then terminate the person who said this?

If by "repudiate", you mean "give an hour of prime time television to host a talk show," then I'm betting on less than three months. You know, in time for voting season.

Point02GPA: I've argued in the past, and I'll still argue anytime anywhere that America's biggest mistake was in not annexing the Sudetenland.

No, it was in neglecting to pay some Dutchmen to set fire to Lord Snowdon.

Ooooh! Ooh-ooh-ooooh! Mr. Kotter! I've got this one!

Wikipedia says, "On February 28, 2006, as a member of a student panel discussion at the University of California, Irvine on the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, Peterson described Islam as an "evil religion", and argued that extremist Muslims "hate us [America] because we are a Christian nation and we support Israel."

Which makes sense, you see, because fundamentalist Muslims and fundamentalist Christians have -nothing- in common.

This IS GENIUS. This is the only rational explanation for the state of Republican politics, and hence much of US politics in general. As an Australian who (like many around the world) is a keen observer of US politics, it was all *facepalm* until I read this. Why are Fox and consequently the Republicans such retards? THIS. Have the Republicans been badly sucked in by Murdoch, YES. It all makes sense now. Poster, you sir/ma'am have absolutely made my week. Thankyou.

Then the Prohibition Repealing Amendment passed.

And now we're talking about it. It would not surprise me if In five years it is being discussed as a serious "policy" option.

Yes, I agree that they are floating this test balloon, absolutely. No, it won't take five years to move the Overton Window on this topic. The fact that birth control of all things, with all-male congressional panels, became controversial in 2012 should tell you something.

I wonder who is finally going to make it clear to these shiatstains that they are exactly like the Taliban? Will the only difference eventually be that women here don't have to wear burkas? And they will tout that, and use it as a way to deny what they've done...

"Sure, she can't vote or drive or go to school or take a job away from a hard-working man, but look at the lovely dress she's wearing!"

I'm not in favor of extending the vote to women. But then, I'm not in favor of extending it to men, either. If voting could solve our problems, we wouldn't still have them after 200-odd years of voting.

I'm amused at the idea that we should assume a TV station agrees with every opinion aired on their station.
