With how the referees have been jumping on things end of game, this is a terrible idea because the players left will simply be all the more worn out. Besides, Shanahan has been willing to toss one game suspensions with elimination on the line, and one player rotating slightly, misjudging angle of approach, coming in too fast, etc., just to get a hit could dwindle the Ranger lines. Best way to send a message is to start hammering Holtby with pucks.
