No, they're poison because they lie a lot and promote an anti-American, radical, bigoted agenda that will crush what's left of the middle class into the dust.

They also distort the news radically in a media landscape that was already pretty freaking bleak to begin with.

Propaganda isn't news.

Some liberal pinko says that Fox News is biased and that the NYT at least tries to be unbiased. And to disporove that assertion, Townhall brings up two comments the guy made from 1989 and 1996; whereas I could turn the channel to foxnews and find blatant bias backup up by proven falsehoods before the next commercial break.

You are not happy unless it is a story on how out of touch, stupid, retarded or racist the GOP is....so in typical liberal fashion you will try to shout down any opposing view.

Well, to be fair, the GOP is out of touch, stupid, retarded and racist.

The United States media is not liberal. They are actually neoliberals (nascent fascists) and paleoconservatives (social libertarians).

you want to know why Fox is America's poison?

My family on my mom's side has always been super tight knit and close. Everyone has always loved each other and gotten along famously. My mom's 3 brothers all live in or around Pennsylvania whereas my mom & dad live in Vermont. Everyone was registered republicans.

Then Fox News happened.

It started off at family gatherings where alcohol was involved like weddings. My first experience with it was my great aunt coming up to me and asking me how i liked living in "Kerry Country" (this was 2004) and got all snotty to me. I hadn't spoken to this woman in 15 years and she was already preemptively attacking me for my perceived beliefs because i lived in Massachusetts. I politely changed the subject but was kind of shaken.

A few years later at my brother's wedding, my uncle who's an evangelical minister corners me and starts going on about how the muslim religion is inherently evil because they're so violent. I started to point out that most religious violence in this country is perpetrated by christians but that was dismissed as a "lie by the lamestream media". This was my favorite uncle growing up and he was just seeing me as another Massachusetts liberal that he could attack and not a farking close family member.

We'd just sort of shrug it off and suggest that they watch something besides Fox since that's all that's ever on at their places, but it's kind of jarring when it gets between family members.

Yesterday, my dad had both his knees replaced so my minister uncle calls my mom to check in and see how things were going and the subject gets on to insurance (I guess insurance is only paying 50% of the 2nd knee or some weird shiat like that) and my uncle says out of nowhere "well under Obamacare there'll be no knees at all".

My mom just sort of got off the phone and wrote to me how sad it made her that her brothers have become so rigidly partisan and how it's all because of the shiat they see on Fox.

Fox has literally and actually splintered my family.

The real reason Fox is somehow "America's Poison" is because of its willingness to go around the liberal censorship wish list and define what is "fit to print" in a different way it knowingly publishes lies and false equivalencies in a vapid, transparent push to generate wedge issues for right-wing teabots.

It's state-controlled TV for one of America's two major political parties; the PR-wing for the GOP. That's why it's poison. You can argue that certain corners of the American news media lean left organically, but at Faux News being politically biased is their damn mission statement, dictated from the top. When you watch that network, you are purposefully brainwashing yourself.

But they're saying a bunch of bullshiat that righties inside the bubble love to hear, so it feels good, right?

I don't have a tv so the only time I watch cable news is when all of the following apply:

1. I am visiting my parents
2. They don't have any furniture that needs to be assembled
3. There's nothing good on TCM

I've probably watched Fox News a total of twice over the past five years, and both times I caught them telling blatant lies. The most recent time was a round table discussion on spending from early in Obama's term. One of the speakers mentioned "the deficit" when he clearly meant "the national debt", and not only did nobody correct him, but they continued to say "the deficit" instead of "the debt" throughout the rest of the segment.

That's not news from a Conservative perspective. That's lying in order to associate the president with the national debt.

Seriously people, do you NOT UNDERSTAND how Fark works?

Drew is not your kindly uncle. He's a businessman. Fark is a media outlet, like any other media outlet. When hits start to fall off, Drew trolls for hits the same way that Skinnyhead trolls doe responses. If you don't like it, stop posting in obvious Troll threads. Otherwise, just admit that we all kind of like spewing our outrage, and that what Drew does works and generates traffic.

Is it as simple as watching MSNBC or Maddow, or is there more involved? How about an atheist - are they automatically elites? Must I hate Fox News and Murdoch? What about RINOs?

I has a sad.

I have a best friend who I have known for 25 years who is always sending me emails that start with Fw:Fw:Fw: and when I see him he rages about how Obama is going to take our guns and sekrit muslin kindof stuff. He used to watch Stewart and Colbert and now he listens to Glenn Beck like 10 hours a day. I tried to tell him that if you listen to anything 10 hours a day it's going to brainwash you but he says "it's mostly just in the background" so it doesn't matter. ::facepalm::

As an aside he's also gotten into some whacky form of Christianity and I recently found out he sortof disowned his own nephew simply because he's an atheist. Like I said this guy has been my best friend for 25 years but I'm sure the day will come when he severs ties with me.

This "us vs. them" mentality these kind of people promote is really tearing our country apart, and not just at the top, but even on personal and family levels.

:(

/as an aside he claims that because of Obama his family is no longer eligible for Medicare. I didn't press him for details, but anyone know anything about that kind of thing?

You mean - if you had a dick. Most liberals have strap-ons.

Yes. All liberals are effeminate and less than men who don't own guns and are pansified. As contrasted by conservatives who aren't scared of every little thing, every single day. Good call, dick-eye.
