How entertaining would it be if the Obama family applied for Kenyan citizenship just after the election? GOPbagger rage explosions would fill the country with the sound of squishy popcorn, and FOX would have to start a whole new 24/7 derp channel. You know, just like the reaction Bachmann is getting.

gadian: What? She can get out of here, but I can't? I want to be an escaping rat too! Damn my marrying a multi-generational American. Damn other countries that have restrictive immigration policies. *shakes tiny fist*

I have dual citizenship -- but the other country is Iran. This rat wont be escaping there.

Because, like the cheese, Michele Bachmann, is holier than thou?

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Call me when she travels to apply for Martian citizenship.

3.bp.blogspot.com

Would fight that bill tooth and tentacle.

My mom has dual citizenship (US & Ireland), but according to her the US
doesn't really recognize that status, though they don't impede it either, and a
check of the wikipage for US Citizenship squares with her experience.

That means that I am eligable for an Irish passport, but I have yet to get off
my sorry butt and file the papers to get one.

Greywar: For those calling for her security clearance to be revoked, its been a long time, but I believe thats a cause for revocation.

But for those saying "hahahah teabaggers", you obviously don't know how these people think. They will say her doing this PROVES just how bad the united states is!

And finally for those asking the swiss to take her...I can only think...Please take her and keep her. But inside I know...thats not very kind of me.

Who cares if it's not kind of you? It's better for this country not to have a piece of crap like that at the upper echelons of governance. Now if every teabagger would move to some tiny island in the Pacific, perhaps one where they still perform weapons testing, that'd certainly improve the prospects back here in the States.

/Implying I'd like to see teabaggers all get blow'd up was unkind
//I'd much rather they start thinking for a change, but that ain't happening

Lupine Chemist: I think I'm going for Spanish citizenship. Which means that I have to say I'm loyal to the king of Spain.

Anybody who tells the Strutting Jackass of Caracas to STFU can't be all bad.

My brother's wife has dual citizenship with Brazil, I told her she needs to take advantage of it to get us all World Cup tickets for 2014.

Bachmann's office confirmed that the congresswoman had received Swiss citizenship, and attributed the decision to her children.

So her kids are anchor babies?

She plans on getting some of that Koch money and storing it there. She won't.

Virulency: i thought the US doesn't recognize a dual citizenship?

Congratulations. You actually managed to post a comment more ignorant than Michele Bachmann.

Seriously: is there an Internet Law that says that the easier it is to check facts, the less inclined people are to do so?

2012-05-09 07:45:31 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if in a few months we don't her about a major lawsuit being filed against her or some type of campaign finance charges against her.

MinkeyMan: Anybody who has followed Bachmann's career knows of her disdain for America and is therefore not suprised by this. However, even the most cursory investigation shows Bachmann taking Swiss citizenship is far more sinister then may appear.

Consider: Switzerland is supposedly a neutral country. Yet it has a highly trained, well equipped, military of over 200,000... who's job it is to guard the Pope! Therefore, Bachmann is a puppet of papal global hegemony!! Also, the Pope is know to have been a member of the Nazi Party so it would seem obvious that Bachmann is part of a larger Catholo-Nazi cabal!!

/working for WND must be so easy

dingdingding! nothing like ultimate money/power, huh? i wonder who will get her familys spot in the Denver underground facility.

"Congresswoman Bachmann's husband is of Swiss descent..."

Is that what they're calling it these days?

Oh, Michelle, sweetie. The people of Minnesota came from Sweden-not Switzerland. I know, it's an easy mistake for a retard Palin-American.

My neighbor has two passports, and travels on his Bahamian one when in rough parts of the World.

2012-05-09 08:03:41 AM
We've got to look at the silver lining here people. Since Michelle now has dual-citizenship, she's no longer a natural born citizen and nevermore will we have to shudder at the thought of her occupying the presidency.

2012-05-09 08:04:58 AM
Dual citizenship is the highest form of patriotic.

Paris1127: Don't they have socialized medicine in Switzerland? And legal euthanasia?

Also legal prostitution, so her political activities are legal

Also, more sane drug policy, though not full legalization. So she can get treatment for whatever she is hooked on, but could still be prosecuted if she gets too crazy.

Magorn: can we kick her off the Intel committee now? IIRC dual citizenship makes you ineligible for a security clearance

Nope, I know someone with top secret clearance in the Foreign Service who's a dualie with Britain. It might depend on the country though.

Great now she can get to the bottom of why they attacked Pearl Harbor!

2012-05-09 08:26:05 AM
wildcardjack: Marcus Bachmann, the congresswoman's husband since 1978, reportedly was eligible for Swiss citizenship due to his parents' nationality - but only registered it with the Swiss government Feb. 15. Once the process was finalized on March 19, Michele automatically became a citizen as well, according to Honegger.

I am getting some serious WTF vibes here. Does she know something that means being able to flea to an impenetrable little country at the drop of a nuke will protect her and her children?

So you're saying she would be a blood sucking parasite there, also?

From teh wiki:

A person married to a Swiss citizen may apply for Swiss citizenship by facilitated naturalisation after living in Switzerland for five years and having been married for at least three years. No language test is required, but one must show the following:
integration into the Swiss way of life;
compliance with the Swiss rule of law;
no danger to Switzerland's internal or external security.
Children from the person's previous relationships (but not same-sex couples) are given citizenship along with the partner.

Okay, that's not Michele did it... *continues*

It is also possible for the spouse of a Swiss citizen to apply for facilitated naturalisation while resident overseas after the following:
six years of marriage to a Swiss citizen; and
close ties to Switzerland.

Spouses acquiring Swiss citizenship by facilitated naturalisation will acquire the citizenship of the community and canton of their Swiss spouse.

Married to Marcus (dual Swiss-American citizen) for longer than 6 years. Check.

Close ties to Switzerland?

How much does that cost*?

Will they take a cheque?

*That's one of those "If you hafta ask" dealies, aint it?

No, that was the Germans.

The Swiss attacked Hershey PA and stole all the chocolate

I wish I got to keep my British citizenship when I joined the air force. I don't wanna use the non-EU citizen line.

2012-05-09 08:34:56 AM
Congress critter holding dual citizenship? Fine. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a fair number of others in the same situation.

That it's a blowhard teabagger getting citizenship in the evil-socialist-empire that is "Europe" does, however, make me wonder if she's actually smarter than the infuriatingly ignorant face she shows the world. Or that she operates with a brain that is so heavily compartmentalized that she can justify anything that might conflict with her ass-backwards world view.

2012-05-09 08:38:36 AM
Hah, just wait til she sees their tax rate and cost of gas. She is going to shiat herself.

I'll agree with the possible exception of Israeli citizenship.

This story doesn't currently appear anywhere on the Fox News website, I guess it doesn't fit the narrative. Someone will come up with a way to spin this later today, then they'll post the story.

I was told the Bachmanns hated socialism.

2012-05-09 08:48:24 AM
When she runs again in 2016 this will be spun as her major foreign policy credential.

2012-05-09 08:49:52 AM
I'm seriously asking now.

Did she do this for tax evasion purposes? Was this done to show that she's somehow a citizen of the same country she is probably hording all her money?

If so, deport her and revoke her citizenship ASAP please.

2012-05-09 08:54:40 AM
It's the lead in for the inevitable 'The US under Obama is so bad I needed to keep my options open for when he (insert random made up republican fear here) I can safely flee the regime."

Sounds like she wanted it so her kids could benefit from easier EU travel, free healthcare and discounted education. All the things she opposes for the United States.

So, I wonder what the Swiss, with their free health care, gay marriage, tolerant attitude, lack-of-religious bullshiat and no-nonsense attitude think of this batshiat loon?

They're basically crazy, heavily armed democrats with a strong dash of the real founding fathers, not republican founding fathers.

2012-05-09 09:02:40 AM
If this doesn't expose her aw-shucks cornpone Real American schitck as exactly that, a ruse to get the rubes riled up with fistfuls of cash to fill her coffers, then Teabaggers are truly as dumb as they sound.

Disgusting behavior. Do as I say, not as I do. And fark you, I've got mine.

Canadians?

Hehe, "stiff"

/hehe, "behind"

How can someone with a dual citizenship have a security clearance in the US Congress?

TheShavingofOccam123: How can someone with a dual citizenship have a security clearance in the US Congress?

Congressional security screenings are handled differently than civil servants. To get your congressional clearance revoked you basically need to demonstrate a certain level of untrustworthiness. It is a point of contention within the intelligence community because a lot of leaks seem to start in congress by someone trying to score political points.
