I kinda dug their first two albums, but I grew out of the whole ska sound pretty quickly. As much as I appreciated the refresher on the proper pluralization and spelling of the banana, her solo work left quite a bit to be desired.

I think there's a lot of people who would love to see a bit of a revival (I know I would), but it would be short lived and nostalgia driven for sure - if it had any staying power, I'd be surprised. That said, this particular album, I agree, will probably be a "big ol' overproduced meh".

while i like "actual ska", some of my favorite stuff is whatever "wave" of ska bands like reel big fish, less than jake, and the planet smashers (and no doubt up to and partially including "tragic kingdom") all fall into. i love that upbeat horn-powered stuff.

by the way, last year rbf released a sorta greatest hits album called skacoustic on which the songs were recorded with all acoustic guitars instead of electrics. i highly recommend this album!

It's the same reason Sublime was so popular. So that stoned college students can tell you: "You don't understand, man... ska was before reggae... it's only when they got high their music slowed down."

But I'll pass. She's untalented (her solo efforts were utter shiat) and her only skills seems to be singing in a baby voice that is heavily modified by electronic equipment.

She's not really ugly, but she's certainly not what I'd call hot (she wears too much makeup to make an honest judgment).

Dale Bozzio did her style better, sexier, and with a farktonne more talent.

CSB time...

It's the early 90's and I'm working in the NOC at Netcom. Netcom was in the same building as the old 98.5 KOME at the time. They had a back entrance with a doorbell on it that guests could ring to get into KOME when they arrived. The problem with that was that those of us in the NOC made a habit of ringing that doorbell every time we walked by just for kicks... So after a while KOME never answered the back door when they heard the buzzer ring...

I'm sitting in the lobby of the building having lunch with my then-girlfriend-at-the-time when out of nowhere this skinny freaky looking blonde chick walks up to me wearing what I can only describe as a fur coat that has nearly had all the fur removed except for the occasional tufts, like someone pulled most the hair out of a barbie doll... She asks me if I know how where KOME is, saying that they were ringing the doorbell by the back door like they were told to, but nobody was answering...

I told her, "Yeah, I can get you in..." And led her and what I can only assume were her bandmates back to the door and called the direct line into the DJ booth...

"Hey, it's Mike... I think there's a band here to see you guys, you want to let them in?"

"Dude, No Doubt!"

(I had no idea who No Doubt was) "Yeah, that's great... well, they're standing by the back door waiting to be let in when you have a sec..."

And that's how I met Gwen Stefani without having any clue who she was...

Neat thing was she came back to the station like a year later and I happened to once again bump into her as they were leaving, and she actually remembered me from the first time she was there.

The wife dragged me pretty much kicking and screaming to the No Doubt "reunion" tour like 2 or 3 years ago. I'm not saying I did a total 180 and adore their music since then, but I did at least enjoy the heck out of that concert.

If they tour again and the tickets aren't stupid expensive, I'd highly recommend catching their live show.

i listen to rbf quite often. about the hoarsest i've ever been after a concert was when i saw them and everyone was shouting the lyrics along with the band

No Doubt is to Ska what Green Day was to Punk.

That song by Weezer is just popular now because its on guitar hero. Kids these days still suck. Sorry you got your hopes up.
