Maybe because they sell shiatty, overpriced food and, in this economy, people are finally beginning to catch onto that?

/only good thing they sell are their fries

Because the business model that uses ever increasing same store sales (to infinity) is impossible.

So not only did they make profits, they made MORE profits than previously... but because it was slightly less of a rise than the company was predicting, and a lot less than some unrelated analysts were guessing, somehow this is bad news...

Oy vey. My brain hurts.

Pink slime.

I don't believe what McD's says about the discontinued use of it, they're still gonna use it because if they didn't, their prices would skyrocket and they'd have to close over half their locations overnight.

I guess some people didn't like the boabab tree analogy selling cheap burgers

Can't they just be happy they made a profit at all? Maybe they should spend less money on their stupid marketing campaigns. McCafe? Gimme a break.

Their food pretty much sucks except for the fries, pretty much every other fast food joint has better food than them.

Would you feel sorry for the guy that says "the amount of sex I am having each year is increasing more slowly than I expected"?

In most cases VPs react to this by laying off people. What a world we live in....

Amusing that the counter-PR articles have already started, declaring mcdonalds "back in a big way"..

Well. Considering I went from 0 to 1. Yes. Your pity is welcome.

Food at Wendy's has improved so much that I prefer it to McDonald's. I will still never choke down booger king, though. They can't be why McDonald's has slumping sales.

Or they could just raise their prices to keep in line with what a decent fast food burger (ie, Five Guys) costs these days. They've been focused on value over everything else, and their quality sucks because of it.

/that and they stopped using lard to fry their fries.

They aren't slumping. They just aren't increasing at the rate they expected. A gain is still a gain.

I'll admit to eating McD's on occasion. Not many places have a $1 equivalent to the McDouble. Sometimes I need a few hundred calories and some protein, and I can't spare more than a buck.

It's classy. Like coronary artery disease. And diabetes.

/Agree there is no equivalent to the McDouble
//Their breakfast sandwiches are pricing themselves out of my range

You don't understand modern financial terminology. In the federal government, a less-than-expected increase in spending is a "cut". Likewise, a less-than-expected increase in McDonald's profits is a "slump".
