Don't use Facebook. Don't like Facebook. Don't see any compelling reason FOR Facebook.

Don't use any 'Social Networking' sites.

I'm just waiting for F5 addiction. The compulsion to refresh web content in hopes of an update. We all have it.

I frequently think that about Fark comments

You sound awfully adamant. Are you sure you're not a secret gay Facebook user?

Deleted all my personal info more than a year ago. Deleted all my photos. Set up a couple "private" groups to trade insults with various sets of a friends. Quit posting to my wall and even quit posting on friends' walls. Began using disconnect.me to disallow any snooping or cookie swapping.

Facebook has its uses, but it's drawbacks FAR outweigh any benefits unless you limit the exposure of your personal data.

And about five years out of date for the "newest" anything. Facebook addiction is so 2007.

Shooting for the Facebook average is excellent if you are trying to make money from that demographic but lousy if you like humanity or self-respect.

Here comes the snark, I can feel it building. Typical for the underaged, glib ever-pubecent crowd to treat something as deadly as addiction like it were some easily disregarded non-reality. Only until they're in the grips of this incidious disease do the glib comments subside - and sometimes it only stops with jail, institutions and death. Serious treatment (90 meetings in 90 days, read your Big Book, talk to your sponsor(s), work your steps) is necessary to avoid the sobering (pun intended) reality. Remember - "the program doesn't fail - you fail to work the program."

The average user would gladly ignore Jews being herded into cattle cars as long as the TV/internet cable was not interrupted.

But I thought I was addressing folks with IQs in three digits. Guess I was wrong.

Agreed, the average user will gladly give away their lifes details for a box of friends, 90% of which they will never talk to face to face.

/I know there are a lot of responsible facebook users but the average user seems a bit dim.

2012-05-08 04:35:29 PM
Most the people I know that I want to talk with are never on, and some have deleted their profiles.
I have their phone numbers and steam accounts, which is more useful anyway.

2012-05-08 04:36:11 PM
At this point I hope the government mines all it can from Facebook, allows every business possible to do the same, and gives amnesty to anyone anywhere to reveal embarrassing photos and information gleaned from FB.

Displaying your life and posting details online is a losing proposition. You all have been warned.

Plus no-one cares. 95% of your "friends" are laughing at your stupid kids, lame trips, and pedantic pictures of "cool" things you found.

How is this new? I remember people having serious withdrawl problems with facebook back when I was in college, and that was 6 or 7 years ago.

My wife and I are grandparents. Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with our kids and their kids.
I'm very fond of classical music, and Facebook is a good way to get in touch with other people with similar interests.
Addicted?
To Fark, perhaps.
Facebook is more of a symbiosis.

/No, I don't have TV, as it happens.

Casual friends of mine who I thought were reasonable people have become colossal attention whores on FB, posting every 10 minutes about every nuance of their lives. I mean we're talking people in their 30's to 50's, not just kids. Crazy stuff, man.

2012-05-08 05:49:29 PM
Deleted my facebook account (well, we know it's not deleted by I can't find it anymore) last month. I don't miss it.

Kicked FB for new years, the hardest part was the two weeks were you could still log on and reactivate your account, I actually reactivated it twice then shut it down for good.

On March 5th this year a college student died in an 80 mph crash while updating her facebook.

Exactly two years earlier the Korean couple let their baby starve while raising a virtual baby.

I think March 5th should be Internet Addiction Awareness Day

Delete your facebook. An email account is all the social media you need.

..and Fark I guess

2012-05-08 06:53:53 PM
It's easy enough to cut down to checking only once a day.

Especially once you realize it's nothing but ads and advocacy these days, and very little actual friends posting.

When did you delete your Facebook Profile? 'Cause I deleted mine before that.

I didn't use Facebook until a couple of months ago. I don't post any personal info, I just use the site to get out consumer protection info. Still, it's kind of hard to stop responding to those little numbers on the globe at the top of the page...

2012-05-08 07:18:59 PM
Facebook added this new "what's trending" thing to the feed. Hey Facebook, I really don't care what the thrashing maw of mouthbreathers on your site are talking about. I'm using Facebook to see what my friends are up to. "Megan Fox denies pregnancy rumors." I don't give a fark Facebook. If one of my friends posts that, then fine. They don't, because I'm not friends with retards, but if they post stupid shiat like that then fine. But don't start filling my feed with the latest from the Yahoo! frontpage you farks. What? You assholes don't have enough money? No, let's continue to degrade the quality of out service for a cheap buck. Let's just continue to fark this golden goose of ours until it dies. Have fun guys.

Profit has to continually increase, or people get angry. Nobody's happy with a steady stream of dependable profit; it has to keep going up and up.

Me no likey.

Me has quit Facebook last October after Frontierville changed.

Me no longer cares what Facebook thinks or anyone else think about Facebook.

Me is happier this way.

I use FB to feel morally superior to the people I went to high school with.

I feel like I should get an award "Made it past 25 with no baby daddies, actually got my degree, and a real job."

Looking at my FB tonight though I got kinda depressed. I haven't talked to some people in so long, I feel a bit of an anti-social loser.

I think I'm just feeling lonely be cause some close friends of mine moved away and I just feel it's hard making friends as adults without school.

I loathe Facebook.

That said, I owe Facebook a huge debt for reconnecting me with someone very, very special to me.

I still quit, though. Once I found her, I felt that there was no other reason to remain on a social networking site like that (especially with all the invites to farm and poke and get stickers and play stupid management games, etc). I'm still in Google+ but that's no big deal... Nobody else seems to be using it, so it's a good place for an introvert like myself to have a social networking presence.

No facebook. No MySpace. My business connections want me to use Linkedin. Nope.

You want to chat with Lee Smolin. You get Mabel from Hooterville. The BAD part of Hooterville.
