Rehash of Alien

It can't be unseen.

shiat.

Rehash of Alien? From the sound of it, it's more an adaptation of At The Mountains of Madness in the Alien universe.

At The Mountains Of Madness, the film Del Toro was set to direct with Tom Cruise until Universal pulled the plug because the director would not back off his insistence of being able to deliver an R rated film. Universal execs deemed that too risky for a $150 million film

Take Tom Cruise off the project. The film will instantly be made better, and cheaper to make.

No shiat - I actively avoid films he's in.

I've never read Lovecraft. Is it even possible to do justice to a film adaptation of Mountains of Madness in anything but an 'R' rated format? Not that the rating would have made much of a difference, with Tom Cruise being in the picture. Blech..

eh, it is likely a prequel to Aliens. There was an interesting article the other day that was doing a compare/contrast of the two, even of the trailers. Also some of the interviews with Scott kind of hint towards that.

It is. Same derelict ship, same giant gun turret. There's no doubt of it at this point. However, it isn't a direct prequel, but more of a bit of a different story set in the same universe.

Scott has said the last 8 minutes are a direct overlap of the two films. I'm guessing we see what leads to the space jockey dieing and crashing his ship, and how the Aliens come to be there.

From the look of the trailers, it's actually a human that was somehow transforming into something entirely different. I'm guessing that humans were created by some alien race and seeded on earth to be little more than surrogates. We're just vessels waiting to be used, designed to become them when they want it.

As a lifelong (since 14) fan of At The Mountains of Madness, I want to say that yes, it would be possible to make it as a PG-13 movie. The only real gore factor happens at the base camp that gets overrun...most of the horror is not of the gore type. Albino Penguins do not require an R rating.

However, it would be better to do it as an R rating. You could give the terror a little more "oomph" by doing that.

Meh. There's a leaked script floating around if you guys are really interested. Based on it, this movie is mostly a prequel.

No doubt its a prequel to Alien, the vagueness of everyone involved is just an attempt to attract a wider audience.

Believe it or not, not everyone is a fan of the Alien series, and the filmmakers don't want to lose any potential viewers so they don't directly attach it to the story.

Those people are defective, at least if we're talking about the first two movies. If all you know of Alien is AvP then I can completely understand wanting to avoid any taint whatsoever.

Still don't really care.

I just want to see more 'adult' (and I use that term as absurdly as the mpaa) movies. Rate them R, tell the story how it needs to be told, and stop ficking shutting everything down for precious little 10 year olds. I love me some Ace Ventura and some Shrek, but I also like me some kill bill and pulp fiction.

Our ratings system is farking retarded anyway.

Just don't expect any xenomorphs. Maybe a facehugger at the most. I think Ridley said there would be no actual xenomorphs in the film.

I think most of the deaths will be caused by humans (either error, stupidity, or evil act) and one will be by the android (Fassbender) because it must complete the main directive at any cost (whatever it is) and someone will get in his way. I don't think many will actually die by aliens.

Technically, the "xenomorph" wasn't in Alien either.

From all the sci-fi movies that I've seen, your chances of death by aliens is pretty remote compared to death by bat-shiat crazy crew members.

Great news! The movie better be amazing and recoup the 100+ million it cost to make so we see other R rated summer sci-fi movies.

I could see it showing up as maybe an easter egg. Perhaps the xenomorphs are biological weapons (as has been theorized) and plans for one will show up on an alien computer screen or such on the alien ship.

I wonder if Ridley will accept the Queen as canon for the Alien series, or if he'll only worry about staying close to the first movie for established mythology.
