That would bore me terrifically too
That I get a kick out of you

The worst thing was Pepsi trying to copy Coke with their flat, nasty concoction.

It's interesting to me the different terminology for sweetened, carbonated drinks in other parts of the country.

Where I'm from, we offer a guest 'something to drink,' (this usually means something non-alcoholic in my circles) then they usually ask what ya got, then you reply, "water, milk, orange juice, coca cola/coke, mountain dew, tea" etc... Around here, we refer to sodas/pop/soft drinks usually by name. Unless we're referring to the type of beverage in question, in which case, the most common terms are 'soft drinks,' or 'sodas.'

But I've heard of some places where if you say you want a 'coke,' it's perfectly acceptable for your host to give you a sprite. Because, hey, that's 'coke' as well. Weird.

The Coca-Cola corporation gotta be careful about that, because they are running the risk of genericizing their mark (like escalator).

Those places are wrong and they should feel bad. I get annoyed enough if I ask for Coke and get Pepsi, without an explanation. All I want is a "sorry, no Coke, only Pepsi", but no, apparently it's all the same to some people. If someone gave me a Sprite when I ordered a Coke I'd see little alternative but to set them and their establishment on fire. A resonable response, I think all would agree.

It's not quite like that. The way it works is you go to a friends and they ask "Hey do you want a Coke" then you respond with "Sure you got any Dr. Pepper" or whatever your preferred beverage is. They don't just hand you a random drink.

Soda can refer to more than one thing.
Pop is the intelligent thing to call it.

I grew up in the area marked "Pop," but I say "Soda." My only explanation would be the yellow area around St. Louis, where my grandparents grew up; they could've passed the word onto their daughter, my mother, despite living in Louisville...

Sorry, but it's already been established scientifically that Mountain Dew is the most disgusting soft drink currently available.

It was dethroned temporarily by the teal-colored Mountain Dew variant that Taco Bell used to push so that your asshole could put on its own off-Broadway production of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, but in some quarters Mountain Dew's grip on the title has been unabated.

I happen to like Coke, subtard.
