I read an interview he gave where he admitted to not liking people very much, but felt that his dogs taught him to be a better human being.

MDGeist: Never understood the following this book had. It's rather pathetic even in terms of a kids book.

"Wisdom and goodness to the vile seem vile."

...Meanwhile over on freerepublic, the most important issue with regards to Mr. Sendak's passing was the fact he was (allegedly) a "vile sodomite"...

Hurpa-derp!

lilacjive: Everyone should take a moment and read/listen to his interview on Fresh Air a couple of months ago. Sad as shiat but incredibly moving.

/RIP, Wild Man

As a children's librarian, this makes me feel truly sad. Sendak was a champion of treating children like people instead of snowflakes. He'll be greatly missed.

/I love your screenname, IwasKloot. I am Kloot is one of my favorite bands.

I'd say Pratchett could help hold the line, (when my hypothetical future children are old enough, they are absolutely getting the Tiffany Aching series read to them), but I don't know how much longer he'll be about, either...

I LOVE Pratchett! A guy I met in DAOC turned me on to him. I'm dying to share him with my oldest ;)

Why would Pratchett want a threesome with you and your oldest?

Did anyone actually watch the Colbert interview? It was like an interview with a corpse. I'm surprised it didn't need a Ouija board and a medium to complete.

It's remarkable how widely people vary in that age range.

Sorry, I was on my iPhone, thanks for the alternate link. If that interview doesn't touch you, I'm convinced you have no soul. I cried the first time I heard it too.

These. One of the best interviews Terry Gross has done, ever.

A truly great NSFW parody by Mr Mike and the NatLamp crew.

Spartapuss:

and I hope one day your son's adopted child will read it to him as well. RIP Maurice.

Well, one can only hope... Maybe it's the cough syrup I'm taking, but... adopted? Sure, why not? Or biological. Or borrowed. Hopefully not stolen, though. I'd like to think my kid would draw the line at baby theft.

I'm a bit bummed to read of Sendak's death, but really...dude lived long, presumably full life, created art that will last almost indefinitely, and brought happiness and light to more lives than can even be accurately counted. I can only wish to be so lucky.

/RIP, authorman

Okay, was I the only one in the country who didn't know he was gay and lived with his partner for fifty years?
