I'll never understand why sports gambling is the pariah of all gambling. Schools are funded by the worst forms of gambling- lotteries. Sports betting allows people to do actual research to be successful. Sports gambling awards smart people. Lotteries require zero skill (and therefore are much more prone to addiction).

But keep farking that chicken America.

As a White Sox fan since 1981, I am pretty well aware of what went down in 1919. And as a sports fan, I'm well aware it didn't stop there and continutes today. Legalizing it for the rest of America beyond Clark County won't increase or decrease throwing of games or points shaving by players, coaches, and refs.

Outside of hardcore republican cirles Christie is just not likable. His considerable record as a prosecutor is the only thing that gave him the popularity to win the governors office and it did not hurt that everyone hated Corzine. The only doom he would spell is for the Rmoney campaign. It might motivate the base a little bit but the problem is he would motivate democrats almost as much as Palin did.

There is no way in hell the GOP will nominated two guys from the Northeast. Especially given that none of them are socially conservative extremist nutjobs.

Well, Romney sometimes is, depending on what his audience wants to hear.

This paragraph from TFA should tell you everything you need to know about the reasons behind the hatred for online gaming...

Lesniak said he believed Christie did not want to offend billionaire Adelson, Las Vegas Sands Corp.'s chairman and chief executive, who adamantly opposes online wagering and gave more than $21 million to Gingrich's abortive GOP presidential campaign. Gingrich dropped out Wednesday, and Romney may now be courting Adelson's support.

"You don't want a casino in every home," Adelson said in a recent interview with the Las Vegas Sun. He said online gaming would result in a 10 to 20 percent decrease in land-based casino revenue.

Remember folks, they're only for small government when they want it out of the way to screw over the little guy. When they need legislation to protect their business model (I'm looking at you RIAA, and you too, MPAA), they're all for big government.

Yes, two from the Northeast is the issue with Christie. Which is a shame because it would be epic seeing him and Biden debate.

This sports gambling thing sure seems like a calculated political move by him, which is grating. Other than that, I like his pugnacious style. And for all his bluster he doesn't seem to put his foot in his mouth that often. Hello, Joe!

Also, maybe it's just me, but it looks like he could lose a few pounds.

2012-05-08 12:05:23 PM
Chris is just like any other Neocon governor. They only balance a state's budget by pushing the tax burdon to county and local governements which in turn have to raise property taxes, but at least the states books look good.

I do like the guy because he doesn't try to speak in politically correct terms. If he feels a certain way he just say it without worrying about pissing people off.

Oh no! He wants to put sports books in NJ and maybe set a precendent so we can have it better regulated in the states and not have to send it to Costa Rica and get reamed when you want to make a withdrawl. Or even worry about the Justice Department seeing what the extent of their reach is.

Think of the potential for Vegas casinos, they give their number or line to say an Indian casino in Wisconsin that uses it and send a piece of the action back to Vegas for permission to use their lines. Vegas gets money for a number (and can cut anyone off who messes with their lines) and the Indian casinos get to open a whole other line of business.

Romney needs to pick someone who is a really game changer to have a chance, someone who appeals to the tea party and moral conservatives. Michele Bachmann would be an ideal VP for Romney.

it's not nice giving bad advice to the impressionable.

I can see Romney picking a woman VP nom if only deflect "War on Women" criticisms, but he also needs someone who appeals to social conservatives. Bachmann technically fits that role, but she doesn't really deflect the war on women criticism. Santorum is a safer and more obvious bet even if he pretty much aligns evenly with Bachmann.

For the second consecutive survey, registered voters say the state is headed in the right direction. Poll director Peter Woolley says that's a phenomenon not seen in eleven years of polling through four Governors.

Public employees disapprove of the Governor (35-52), but non-public employees approve by a 2-to-1 margin (60-29).

The assholes who whine about the property taxes on their overpriced McMansions, who whine about the public schools yet vote for their failure. I don't think Perry will be on the ticket either. I also
Don't think Bachman, or anyone else will help the GOP with women; that ship has sailed. However, he is anti gay and pro Jesus, two significant planks in the republican platform.

I think a running mate who will excite the base will be chosen and I don't think it's Mrs. Bachman.

Your 3rd reason was the best!

Yeah especially when longevity dictates pay and not ability.

Over 600 school districts each negotiating seperately...each with multiple layers of administrative management.

Pretty soon you have teachers making over 100k and only half their class graduating......and cops making 150k in areas with negligible crime....

Maybe the state needs to combine services...or share services...like what Democrat Steve Sweeney is proposing....seems like even democrats in NJ think there is a problem.

Average property tax n NJ is about 8k a year, do you live in NJ? If not, would you be comfortable paying more for the same services you get where you live now?

You ever live in NJ and have to go to the DMV or use any other office staffed with civil servants?

It's wierd how out one side of peoples mouths they complain about the ability of civil servants but then have to toe the party line when it comes to paying them large sums of money, and benefits that get passed to their spouse when they die, for terrible service.

The GOP uses tax cuts as a solution for evey problem...the democrats want to throw more money at every problem as a solution....and guarantee someone has a job despite their performance on the job.

You mean the democratic sponsored legislation that passed with a veto proof majority by the democrat held house and senate that Christie signed into law?

I'll give you 2/10 for revisionist history

If you could have someohow blamed him for all the breaks and bailouts given to the Xanadu complex from 2003 on by Democratic govenors I could have given you an extra point or 2.

Do you have citations as him being a lackey for the Bush administration....or is that the tinfoil hat thing about how his name was on a list of people recommended for replacement but he wasn;t replaced?

My taxes were 16k on a 3/4 acre lot with a 1800 square foot home. Would you call that a McMansion? My double wide trailer "hunting lodge" in Potter County is 1900 square feet.
