Philip Francis Queeg: All Romney had to farking say was "I don't think that making claims like that are helpful. Let's keep this campaign respectful to our opponent and focus on the issues."

He can't campaign on the issues. The issues he promotes were already tried under GWB and they were abject failures. The only way he can win is by being a shiat slinging moron and he knows it.

fosborb: Want to see this come up in the debates.

"So, did you get a chance to look into whether or not I've committed treason, Mitt? How'd that go for you?"

Although I love this idea with all my heart, there's no way the Mitt campaign will agree to any debate where the President gets to question him directly. It would be embarrassing, especially if Mitt reflexively agrees with everything the President says.

Perhaps I need to see more context, but all I heard was a woman babbling without actually making any specific accusations or making a real point. There was nothing to refute. How else should Romney have replied? I suppose "Ma'am, I don't understand what you're getting at" would have been a bit better.

The "arab" question to McCain was at least specific enough that he could give a firm answer.

Bullshiat.

All Romney had to farking say was "I don't think that making claims like that are helpful. Let's keep this campaign respectful to our opponent and focus on the issues."

The asshole was either too cowardly to say that, or is happy benefit from that type of rhetoric.

My point was that running over to yank the mic out of her hands wouldn't have been a great way to handle that either. Prepare for the crazy, and get ready to either physically take the mic out of someone's hand, or have the sound guy ready to kill it at a moment's notice.

And when Romney back peddled he only said Obama shouldn't be "tried" for treason. Not that Obama hasn't committed it.

What an ass.

Welcome to the next presidential term. Regardless who wins. If Rmoney wins, the GOP's first order of business will be to put ()bama on trial for treason. If ()bama wins, the GOP's first order of business will be to impeach him, and then put him on trial for treason.

In the more complete video, the lady says "I agree he should be charged with treason." But it sounds like it's kind of an aside to someone nearby her. It's stupid and lying rhetoric, BUT it isn't 100% analogous to the McCain/Arab incident.

He's a Republican. Why do you think integrity would be on the table? I am taking the POV of the Romney campaign, which means figuring out how to win the election without alienating the kind of retard who says these things. Taking the "integrity" route isn't really a winner in the GOP/Fox news world.

True. And it's especially relevant when Romney belongs to a faith that places so much emphasis on personal morality.

That Romney would pander to paranoid crazies to get some votes leads me to question what he won't dump overboard to get elected.

You mean by answering "Joe's" the original question instead of being led off on a tangent by a flat-tax change of subject? Or by providing Faux New footage that they could air with the sound cut so they could talk about him as if he were saying the things they want you to think he said?

Difficult to avoid the latter.

Lying to the public to start a trillion dollar war is different than trying to get people health coverage and possibly overstepping the constitution.

Maybe that's just my opinion. I wasn't calling for a treason trial for bush mind you, but this should be obvious.

Just like when in one of the debates when he was asked what what was the biggest misconception about him and he answered with something completely unrelated and then was just rude to the moderator.

Two things are a given for any GOP nominee now. He needs to pander to the absolute craziest nutjobs in the Tea Party to get the nomination. Then he needs to desperately drag himself back toward the center for the second half of the campaign. It's inevitable that he will get the exact kinds of questions you'd expect from the base he had to pander to. It's the one certainty for which he should be totally prepared. There's no excuse not to be. Either he's running a terrible, flat-footed campaign, or he simply has no moral center and "contentedly saying nothing in the face of evil crazy" is his authentic response. Or both.

McCain specialized in the Town Hall Meeting format, and has been dealing with these types of crazies his whole life. I remember him dealing with these types even back in the 2000 primaries. Romney has no experience with this situation because of the relatively tame, moderate Massachusetts crowds.

In my experience, the most religious and fundamentalist people tend to be the ones with the highest preoccupation and lowest development with sex. It's damn near impossible to go from thinking "sex is awful and you should never have it" to "sex is beautiful and you should have it all the time" once you get married.
