Not the best answers he could have given

I think that politicians should practice for these kinds of events, meeting crackpot loonies.

/Also, isnt it kinda sad that Romney knows not the definition of Treason under the US Constitution?

There's no need to compare the day to day pandering of the Romneybot to the Kent State shootings. Really.

The operative comparison is the understatement, not the shootings themselves.

I probably would've taken the McCain route, only with much harsher language.

It happens in pretty much every election. It's what happens when you depend on gullible idiots for votes. Both sides do this, but one side does it more, as we can see here.

xanadian: I'm beginning to wonder if maybe R'Money may just have multiple personalities.

it's the opposite. he has no personality. he simply absorbs whatever personality his CPU calculates would be appropriate for any given moment.

Like the scene in Game Change where McCain(Ed Harris) is at a rally and the crowd is shouting things about Obama being a muslin, a terrorist, and an African and he has the 'my god, what is wrong with these people' look on his face.

But yeah, you hear more crazy derp at conservative rallies than you do at liberal ones. Not a whole lot more but it is crazier on the right.

As Subby pointed out in the headline, McCain had a similar moment 4 years ago and handled it just fine.

Why would he correct her? I mean sure, a decent person would have but I don't expect that out of Romney.

He's cultivating this bullshiat. He wants it. Listen to what he says about Obama: he doesn't get America, doesn't share American values, bows to foreigners and repeatedly makes excuses for America.

Shiat, this lady threw him a softball. Swing and a miss however you slice it though.

I remember back in the primary debates from the last presidential election, when asked how he would deal with Iran, he said, "Well, first I'd consult with my lawyers..."

Romney - a portrait in leadership. If you painted it with your feces.

So, today we aren't upset that there are free speech zones? Or we only get upset when they are set up during the Democratic National Convention.

2012-05-08 09:46:18 AM
I didn't really see anything in the video to be upset about, but I did see this story last night. The woman began asking a question and some other moran near her made a comment about treason and the woman, interrupted, 'joked' that she agreed he (Obama) should be tried for treason... at that point, they cut the video and the commentator said that she went on a long spiel about executive orders, etc. Then they showed video of Romney response where he did not address the comment about treason.

Frankly, I think this is a bit of a manufactured outrage here. The issue of treason was clearly not the focus of the woman's comment/question and Romney addressed what she was focused on. I'm ok with this.

2012-05-08 09:48:08 AM
That wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. Romney could have handled it better, but the lady in this video wasn't quite as crazy/decrepit as the woman who called Obama an Arab. Also, in McCain's situation (I just re-watched the video), he was standing right in front of her and was able to take the mic away as soon as she said "Arab." Romney just let the mic wander around unsupervised....that may have been the biggest mistake. Never give the rabble an open mic without either the candidate or a campaign worker of some sort standing by to say "Thank you for your comments" and take it out of their hands.

There are a LOT of crazies in this country.

Some people simply can't handle the fact that a black Democrat is president.

sorta points to the heart of the problem doesn't it?

The GOP has to rely on the nuts they've actively cultivated for years. They let the crazy spin out of control because they were going on the idea that anything negative about their opponent must be good for them. No matter how absolutely insane the crazies got, no one of any weight in the GOP would speak up because they couldn't see how this would be bad for their side.

Romney can't just say what should be the obvious answer, "uh, no that's crazy talk...next"

This is a major issue for the GOP, the nuts are taking over the asylum, and it's their own short sighted nasty politics that brought it about.

hold on, it'll get worse before it gets better.

Meanwhile, waterboarding is not torture, warrantless wiretaps are constitutional and invading a broke-dick third world quagmire of a country while simultaneously cutting revenue to finance it did not hurt the US economy in any way.

There's also the line about playing chess with a pigeon. They're just going to knock over the pieces, take a shiat on the board and then fly away back to their friends to brag about their victory.

cman: Put yourself in his shoes for a second. Some crazy ambushes you and starts spouting off idiocy. How would you have handled it?

He handled it decently considering the situation, but watch the clip of when McCain had that crazy lady tell him Obama was an Arab. He was standing right in front of her and took the mic back when she got goofy. What Romney needs to learn for the future from this incident is this:

Don't let the mic travel around the room unsupervised. Either keep the candidate or a campaign worker carrying the mic around. Heck, the campaign worker could even hold the mic up to the person's face. That way you can just take the mic away from them at the first sign of crazy. Romney couldn't have done much better in the situation, but he/his campaign could have prepared better for an eventuality like this.

Again, I don't think this incident reveals anything about Romney that we didn't already know. He's a socially awkward dude who sometimes doesn't handle the unexpected that well. This incident reveals more about his campaign, in that they aren't taking enough precautions and possibly overlooking some details.

I'm pretty sure there were people asking for members of the Bush Admin to be investigated for treason, what with the Iraq War, WMD, etc. Being president is a special club....once you're in the club you can't taddle on anyone else in the club until they are dead.

All Romney had to farking say was "I don't think that making claims like that are helpful. Let's keep this campaign respectful to our opponent and focus on the issues."

The asshole was either too cowardly to say that, or is happy benefit from that type of rhetoric.

As has been said before, both sides have their crazies, but on the Right, the crazies are part of their base. Also, it's telling that when the left-wing candidate meets a crazy, it's usually a right-wing crazy.
