Yet another overweight thread, but oddly absent the normal crew of 'go be fat somewhere else' superiority complex FARKers. Maybe they're afraid that it would just spill over into racism.

Is a big ass like that more comfortable for sitting for prolonged periods? I would assume so, especially if there's some significant muscle holding those cheeks in shape.

However, that's not the type of question I feel that I'll ever be in a position to ask an actual person IRL.

There is a reason why almost ALL Mcdonold's (and a majority of other Fast Food chains) commercials feature black folks.

On the other hand, I was floored when, in Tulsa, I saw a commercial for Church's Chicken that featured white people. I was stunned. I felt like one of those cliché evil computers/robots that's been hit by a paradox, just sitting there, staring forward, only able to think a mantra of "Does . not . compute ... Does . not . compute. ..."

For those unfamiliar with it, Church's is a national chain of chicken joints found predominantly in negro neighbourhoods. Indeed, if you see a Church's Chicken, it's usually a good time to turn the hell around and go back the other way.

downstairs: Zasteva: downstairs: My lawyer husband is one

The fact that you needed to add that speaks volumes about your vapidness. And invalidates your entire article.

Zasteva: How does that speak of her vapidness. Even if it did, how could it possibly invalidate what she writes. Are you saying it's untrue?

It seems to me that she wrote that to show that her husband isn't someone who lacks education or wealth -- that is, it's not a matter of just poverty or lack of information, that it cuts across class lines.

downstairs: How did you interpret it?

I interpreted that as "my husband is at least solidly middle class and is college educated and he still seems to want a fatty booty, so it's not just a ghetto thing".

Why did she need to explain that her husband is a lawyer? What does that even mean?

Well, in a literal sense it means he passed the bar. But the image it generates in my head is of a healthy fit black man in a suit who is charming and educated". I admit that has nothing to do with what any particular lawyer is actually like. He could be obese, dress like a slob and covered in mustard stains and still be a lawyer. But that's not the image that comes into most people's heads when they imagine a lawyer, so if her intent was to convey something about her wealth and social status without being too direct about it then I think she succeeded.

Seriously... if you were in a converstion- that had nothing to do with the practice of law- and someone went out of their way to make sure you knew their significant other was a lawyer... you wouldn't think that's a bit strange?

I'm not sure I'd characterize the insertion of a single word as "going out of her way". I would think that she was trying to establish her social status, and if she mentioned it many times I would think that she was insecure about her social status.

Also "lawyer" does not mean "isn't someone who lacks education or wealth". Many lawyers lack education and wealth.

While I realize there are extremely rare exceptions, don't lawyers have to complete undergrad and law school? This means getting a Doctorate degree, which puts them in the top 3% of the US population by education.

My father is a lawyer. Never once have I found the need to say "my lawyer father." Except in rare cases where I'm discussing corporate real estate law with someone... in which case I'll say "hey, I grew up with a father that did that for a living, and he told me so and so about that particular situation."

This makes me think you are reacting to her treating this as a big status thing, which is a little bit gauche and maybe doesn't jive with your personal experience with lawyers. But honestly, it is a big status thing. Most women brag to their friends if they start dating a lawyer (or a doctor) because of the perception that they are smart and successful people. Statistically speaking, they are correct.

/not a lawyer

Well, this thread is all about the context of "desirable obesity within the African diaspora" (and pics of huge butts), not necessarily "GTFO the plane obesity." That is, a curious fascination as opposed to righteous argument over whether the obese violate common decency and refuse to admit the extent of their burden on the GDP as well as air travel.

However, if news emerges that one or more of Fela Kuti's wives were forced to buy extra seats, that could be a thread changer.

Even though a lawyer must attain the "Juris Doctorate" or J.D., it is considered a professional degree, not a Doctorate. As pompous as some lawyers may be, they aren't referred to as doctors unless they have also received a PhD or M.D.

Locally, we have what we call the Fried Chicken District - a Church's, a Popeye's and a KFC on 3 out of 4 corners of an intersection. Just imagine the business that has to exist to keep three fried chicken places in business that close together.

Just because something does not reflect well upon a particular race or ethnic group does not make the mention of it racist. As with slander and libel, truth is an absolute defence. Church's Chicken restaurants are predominantly found in neighbourhoods that are dodgy or worse, and usually populated by persons with a surplus of melanin and shortages of education and savings. I support my statement with the company's own location finder.

'Tis you, sir, who misspelled 'neighbourhood'.

I have a churches chicken two miles from my house. Its not in a bad neighborhood. Neither is the other one close by which is in a decidedly urban area.

I think allowing yourself to be the arbiter of what is 'dodgy or worse' is probably a bad idea since you form your judgements based the presence of chicken places.

Defense is spelled with an 's' not a 'c'.

Madbassist1: Defense is spelled with an 's' not a 'c'.

Yes, but 'defence' is spelled with a 'c' vice an 's'.

The presence of a Church's Chicken is evidence or a symptom of a dodgy neighbourhood; it is not a definitive criterion. Again, I point to the company's own restaurant locator. There are some restaurants in perfectly acceptable, safe, perhaps even largely caucasian environs; yet you will find that they are disproportionately located in areas of low income, high, crime, and substantially negroid population composition. One might liken them in that regard to little mom-&-pop liquor stores owned by first-generation immigrants.

Maybe its just me, but it seems like the first problem that needs to be tackled is this perceived healthy weight...

4 out of 5 black women are fat?

Hey, isn't that about the same percentage of those that are on public assistance?

Are we loving them to death, like our pets?

Hmm... I always figured black guys just liked the fat white women because the white part cancelled out the fat part, with a minor bonus of them having giant asses (with everything else).

God-is-a-Taco: Hmm... I always figured black guys just liked the fat white women because the white part cancelled out the fat part, with a minor bonus of them having giant asses (with everything else).

There's more to it than that.

They like the white women, of course, and are willing to settle for the fat ones in order to get white. Slender, hot white women have more options and can get a wealthy white guy or a very wealthy black professional athlete/celebrity (i.e., guys who would not look twice at a fat chick). So unless a black dude is an professional athlete or movie star, he'll likely have to scrape the bottom of the barrel and accept a fatty. Fortunately for all concerned, however, he will tend to be more appreciative or at least accepting of a tubby white gal's rolls of blubber because he is accustomed to that on black women in his community and family.

If you honestly believe that then you are a closed-minded, academically dishonest person, and should be ashamed of yourself. You disgust me. I'm not a troll, but you make a good case and I am finding it difficult to make inroads in it. You are correct when you referred to me as being academically dishonest in the discussion. I knew I was fighting a losing battle, and couldn't find a solid platform to work from.
