I guess the issue solved itself.

Jumping 3 stories is not how you perform a triple lindy.

I think it's more a case of Darwin missing by THAT much...

Ya know, looking at the jump, he really didn't give his best effort. He sort of lazily jogs to the edge and hops off.

Probably still would have broken his legs if he made it into the pool if it was only 6' deep.

*shakes head*

Yes, doing a dive into a shallow pool (I can stand in it and it would BARELY cover the top of my head) from that height is very much the height of stupidity. Too bad he didn't castrate himself in the process.

His body looks lifeless as he falls. Not even waving his arms in panic or anything.

He was unconscious from the outset and was pushed.

Having done the "same" thing before from the roof of a ONE-story house - and the roof line came with a few feet of hanging over the water - I can sympathize with the desire for a thrill.
Happy to say I lived uninjured. Still, this guy was an idiot.

Smith threw himself off and landed with a sickening thud at the edge of the pool
"Oh, ow."

he suffered broken ankles, heels and multiple vertebrae in his lower back after the fall from which emergency crews said he was lucky to be alive
"Ow."

Smith's body connects in an upright position with the concrete which left him with broken ankles and back bones
"Seriously, OW."

I really hope he was as drunk as they imply. I imagine that hurt like a biatch.

I fell about 8' from a ladder and *only* shattered my right heel. Permanent partial disability and I'll be in pain for the rest of my life, despite my recovery being well-above-average. This kid is farked. I hope his parents have good medical. My little injury alone incurred costs approaching $120K.

He did not make it to the shallow end of the gene pool either.

Darwin at work.

And since this was written by the british rag, it was actually 4 stories up.

Funny thing to me is that the video had an ad before it for a fertility clinic. Yes, after watching that video it just makes me want to create a new life form that will one day grow up to be a dumbass who jumps into a 6 foot deep pool from three stories up.

Let's see... young, away from home for the first time, access to alcohol, desire to show off for the ladies, still think they're invulnerable, brains aren't done rewiring yet, etc... It's a perfect storm of stupid. I'm amazed so few college-age kids actually manage to remove themselves from the gene pool as they do. I'd have thought it would be a lot higher. Oh, for the good old days when the stupid got eaten by the lions.

In Colorado, they usually just jump off balconies and onto concrete. Must be something in the water....

You can't fix stupid. Sending this farkwit to college is a waste of money.

No way I would've tried that jump from that distance. He should have taken a running start and running on that roof looks too dangerous in itself.

I did a few 'roof dives' in my youth (jumping, not actually diving), but always one-story and, yes, alcohol was a factor.

2012-05-08 07:55:38 AM
Jesus, that looks really painful. But, I got to wondering...how close was this retarded waste of oxygen, really?

So, I did some quick math. 3 stories is about 11 meters. Judging by the photo, I estimated the distance of the pool to be about 5 meters from the building. A little loose, I admit, but close enough.

Disregarding air resistance, an object should take about 1.5 seconds to fall 11 meters. In order to clear 5 meters, then, our f*cking moron is going to need an initial velocity of at least approximately 3.4 m/s. Humans, on average, walk at a pace of about 1.4 m/s, but the top running speed on record is 12.22 m/s. A 20 year old should be able to easily sprint in excess of 3 times their average walking speed, so, there's really no good reason why he couldn't have made the pool.

I am a little bored.

2012-05-08 07:58:26 AM
Although there is, as pointed out above, the issue of running on that roof. I wouldn't do it...
