Mrtraveler01: So what do you think the plot was and do you agree with the charges the FBI charged them with?

What he says it was. Because it fits. He was going to try and do one of those "whacky" stunts where he proves the phones work and that Landrieu's office was just ignoring phone calls berating her for her support of Obama's health care proposals.

Three Crooked Squirrels: You seem to be saying that he announced his intentions to a group before they took action and he explained his actions after. I'm on a phone a don't feel like doing the work on this farking thing. How did he explain his actions/motives? Seriously want to know.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/02/fox-with-okeefe-on-land r ieu-office-arrest/

Mr. O'Keefe contends that they were intent on exposing Ms. Landrieu's supposed inability to respond to constituents' calls. Mr. O'Keefe kept insisting in the TV interview that voters were upset that Ms. Landrieu had received $300 million in exchange for her vote on the health care bill - what some conservatives are calling, inevitably, "the Louisiana purchase."

But, as various pundits, lawmakers and others have pointed out, the $300 million was in fact a proposed outlay for Medicaid in Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and not to line her pockets.

Even though he has no legal access to a telephone closet of a US Senator right?

Hopefully you agree that the punishment fit the crime.

2012-05-07 10:54:21 PM
O'Keefe was probably going to do one of his pranks where he'd make calls to a pornography thing from the Senator's office and then "bust" the Senator for doing such things.

You're right, he was really just going to sexually harass the woman once he got her alone. Of course, we don't know what he would REALLY have done, because he seems to be kind of lacking in the morals department.

Sounds like a fine upstanding young man to me.

At least compared to SOME on the Right, that is...

skullkrusher: Gyrfalcon: skullkrusher: Weaver95: Mrtraveler01: So let me ask this? What legal reason do you think they had to access the telephone closet?

I find that account painful to read. those morons deserved to get caught...so f*cking stupid...

you have no idea how much that pisses me off. i'm incredibly out of practice and even I could have done a better job. why did they even go into the building in the first place? it would have made more sense to scan for a wi-fi hot spot, crack that open and then work back into the office you wanted to reach, and copy the files you wanted. crack it open on a weekend and you'll be ready to go when everyone comes in monday morning. first day back, they don't have their head in the game until after a cup of coffee and the first doughnut of the day...plus they usually have a meeting around 10am. plenty of time to copy files without anyone noticing. then you're out of the area by noon and looking over a bunch of confidential data while lunching with your reporter buddies and figuring out how to spin the story.

it's possible that the plan wasn't to steal anything at all...

I can think of at least one other reason why they might have wanted to sneak into a telephone closet for some private time, you know what I mean?

hot gay sex action? Perhaps... but they weren't found with any wiretapping equipment on them so it obviously wasn't to tap the phones or steal information electronically in that means.

It was probably hot gay sex action.

See? A perfectly legal, yet completely embarassing, reason they were trying to hide in a closet where they weren't supposed to be in building they shouldn't have had access to!

And also explains why he doesn't want to have to answer questions about it. Although now that I think about it, he totally looks like teh homoghey. AND it explains why he's hiding in mommy's broom closet.

adamgreeney:
You notice that with a lot of right wing "heroes." They get vicious and otherworldly support while they are acting like valient soldiers, but once they really step in it or fade out of national, daily attention, the support fades. Look at Beck. A year ago he had a loyal brigade. Now, almost nothing. Conservative loyalty and attention is a fickle thing.

To be fair (I know; why do I bother) that's not really a bad thing. If I discover that someone I supported politically had his hands in the cookie jar or performed some other egregiously immoral or illegal act, I'm happy to kick any support I had of them to the curb. This always seems to stun conservatives (my latest target is John Edwards), who seem to believe that being a progressive means I have no moral standards or whatever. I have, actually, far more often seen conservatives gleefully follow their icons off a cliff.

I think what might have happened to James O'Keefe is that he's just no use to anyone anymore. The fact that he doctors the hell out of his videos means that the second he tries to pull something, the entire opposition will start combing the evidence and leave the thesis in ruins. He attracts that kind of scrutiny. So the next time he does another stunt, the right wing won't have time to doctor up a legislative response before they get shot down.

Not very long ago I read some conservative blowhard claiming that conservative journalists had no choice but to cook stories and make shiat up, because that's what the mainstream media did all the time and that was the only way to get the message out - they were just fighting fire with fire.

I'm honestly curious as to what your talking about. Can you please provide some examples from the last 40 years of liberals championing selective editing of video for partisan political purposes? Or doing it?

If you take a step back, there are very few defenders of anything Republican on Fark. I mean, there are Farkers who will act as apologists, or who will claim the victim mantle, or who will dip into the vast logical fallacy well.

Controlling for trolls, it's rare to see a politics tab poster that defends a Republican concept on the merits.

It was a stunt that was poorly planned that failed horribly for him. It wasn't terrorism or attempted vandalism.
