Why I don't have a corset : )

I had a friend who was a corsetaire, and from what I understand those aren't "off-the-shelf" items. How the heck do you sell an unmeasured, unfitted corset?

A fencer of corsets has to be about the worst job ever.

Why do some men have off the rack suits? It's the cost and well Victoria's Secret's only sells pretty gift wrap really so, how would Americans know?

To goth kids, cosplayers, and bedroom role players who don't really care if it 1) lasts past the weekend and 2) fits well.

Although, you would be surprised the customizing I can do (fit wise) with a heat gun and some extra pieces of spiral steel boning. :)

/BTW,.. After looking at the pics in this article, I think this was a "Paid to shoplift" deal. Garments are usually insured for retail price, and the otrher items are to make it look like they were not specifically targetting the corset rack,

//Seen it done, especially this time of year when boutiques need to clear out stale stuff... and need to raise quick cash to get their summer stock in.

I'm about the least sartorially-aware person ever, but even I get my cheap suits altered. Can't believe that anyone would wear something like a corset that wasn't customized.

Well, when I am talking about stuff like that, it is usually someone who has bought a $150 at a gothshop, or a ren faire, worn it a few times... and wonder "What the hell am I doing wrong? All my friends said that corsets were wonderful and comfortable and.. this just HURTS!"

[Insert image of American girl, easily 120cm, wearing a corset that is at LEAST 5 sizes too small, that has *maybe* 6 pieces of really substandard boning in it... as she plops down on the couch to pout... and stabs herself in the breast as a piece of .75cm boning pops out of its seam and quits... with protest]

Anyway... I try to get to them before it comes to that, and if I can rework the corset, I will. Not afraid to tell them "No, you can not wear this size. You were stupid for buying it" either.

That, and a potential tightlacer could literally *kill* themselves with an ill-fitting corset just through organ failure.

Actually... Unless you are doing some SERIOUS tightlacing, or working with exotic materials, a "good fit" properly boned corset will do you just fine.

No need to customize at all.

Tell you why.

Your body and that corset are going to argue at first... and then calm down, do a little give and take... slide this lace out a bit.. squish more fluid out of that muscle... until they reach a mutually acceptable fit. (Or, you know, you pass out)

I've laced myself into a 42" at 8am on a nice hot faire day, tight as I could stand (probably a little too tight for the weather) and by 18:00 I can just about work my out of it without unlacing. And no lace stretching either, I ONLY use 650test paracord on my corsets.

And yes, I ate a bit during the day, and stayed decently hydrated, it's just amazing how much moving around (of organs, and fluids) your body can do, while still operating normally.

/Nothing on earth like the corsetgasm you get when you unless after 10 hours tightlaced, while performing in the sun. The blood pressure drop, the deep breath... and then the sparkles in your vision.. So wonderful.

//Yes, I am weird. No news there

Very true, corsets in the extreme always reminded my of the Chinese method of foot binding. Which equals not pretty at all.

Not much of a chance of that.

cheap corsets rarely have steel-set grommets, or a good substrate level in the design. They'll go crooked, pop grommets, and come apart before you can really get them tight enough that they will hurt when failing.

Holy hell I totally even forgot I had that list. It's far from comprehensive anymore.

Good point though, may as well give everyone a second chance. Off they go!
