Here again, folks, we have a reminder that while Iran has an existential beef with "the Great Satan" United Sates, they plain-old hate the motherf*ck out of the Arabs across the border and across the water. The way these folks (the politicians complaining, that is), it is a matter of calling it "Iran's Gulf" or "Saudi Arabia's Gulf," so they have a constant pissing match over it. Iranians are Persians; they do not have much of a cultural heritage to share with the Arabs. Their women are way hotter, from what I've seen, too.

It seemed like the US called it the Persian Gulf until we started bombing the sh*t out of Iraq and we were really leaning on the Saudis, thus we started to use their name for it. "NAG" and "SAG" are a lot easier to acronym-speak than "NPG" and "SPG," for what it is worth.

But that may be a tall order. There is a Republican majority in all branches of government in Mississippi and Holland does not agree with Republican viewpoints on immigration.

"They are trying to really discriminate against immigrants, which offends me severely," Holland told ABC News.com. "I just thought if we're gonna get into it, we might as well all get into it, it's purely tongue and cheek."

Holland said the bill, meant to mock other bills drilling down on immigration, is getting a lot of attention, which was the point in the first place. He does not expect it to go anywhere.

Iran isn't really being any more derpy about this than a lot of other countries are. There are many other examples of places whose names are in dispute - Wikipedia has a list of them. Are those islands the UK and Argentina went to war over the Malvinas or the Falkland Islands? Is the country Burma or Myanmar? Is that body of water between Korean and Japan the Sea of Japan? Not if you're Korean it isn't!

There's also some controversy over using "America" to mean the USA and "American" to mean "of or from the United States." South Americans, in particular, get annoyed by it. And I seem to recall some controversy over the little map feature for time zones that Windows used to have. Remember how you used to be able to choose your time zone by clicking on a map? It's gone because some country complained about the map.

It's petty, sure. But Iran isn't really being much more petty than anyone else.
