I've taken the citizenship test and passed. It's ridiculously easy with questions like "Who is the President?"

That would be a great way to weed out the dregs of society, since I doubt any of them can say his name without adding an epithet or an extraneous "...bongo"

This just cant be. Sorry but I saw the test my wife had to take. It's so easy it's laughable. If you know how many states there are you are home free!!

There are many Americans who don't think Hawaii or Alaska are states, and think New Mexico is part of Mexico.

Yes children, study hard enough and you too can be a citizenship test!

He didn't say you had to know their names, just how many there are. Everybody knows it is 57, since like the second grade.

What the f*ck did I just watch? That made my brain hurt. Shouldn't people have to take an IQ test before they can get elected?

He tried to defend himself by saying that he was speaking metaphorically, but what with all of his initial concern about the physical size of the island, he clearly wasn't.

Yeah. It's a sad commentary on the state of our political system. I believe George Carlin said it best.

That's a good question. I wouldn't mind seeing the statistics on that one.

/Just being a little too lazy to GIS it.

I really don't see the point of articles like these.

If you are a citizen you don't need to pass a test, if you are an immigrant you do.

Apples, oranges.

dumbass articles

If you misspell it, does it still count? I'm picturing 1/3 of our citizens answering "Taxbongo," or "Fartbama," or some other name that a challenged 4th grader might come up with.

2012-05-07 01:16:35 PM
This is why I believe that anyone wanting to vote should have to pass this test and anyone wanting to run for national office should have to pass both this test as well as some basic physics, economic, computer, and logical thinking test.

Nothing to hard just enough to make sure this nation isn't run by idiots who have no idea about any of the things they are passing laws on.

PS. English classes would not be required because fark english

How many would fail if it were a spelling test? A typing test?

2012-05-07 01:20:54 PM
I spent the weekend in western Virginia mt biking and did not meet a single person that would be likely to get over 30% on the test.

Well, yeah, because immigrants study for it, dumbass.

This is not some great mystery reflecting some deep secret about America. Picking random people off the street and having them take the MCAT would result in a significantly lower score than the actual average score of the people that typically take it, too.

In fairness, immigrants study for the test. Give citizens time and motivation to study and they would pass with equal numbers.

I was going to say something mocking like "gee, really, if you study a bunch of minutia before a test you remember it better than people who haven't crammed their head full of useless trivia?", but then I took the USCIS self-test that's online and most of the questions were very easy and some of them were of reasonable practical relevance.

If you're a citizen of the U.S. and you can't pass the citizenship test you should get a swift ass kicking. You have to try to be that ignorant.

2012-05-07 01:31:39 PM
Why do right wingers fail on the meaning of the first amendment?

This from a post on facebook:

"We still have freedom of speech, but only if we're being politically correct."

The first amendment prevent "taxbongo" from throwing you in jail for calling him "taxbongo." It does not protect you against social and economic repercussions.

Plus you spelled "their" wrong so your ability to pass the test comes into question

Possessing a modicum of intelligence to participate in the running of the country? We've already had that thread (where this very test was proposed as a prerequisite for voting) and the esteemed Farkers determined the following...
