There are a lot of adult/sex stores along the I-35 in Austin. Go crazy.

Right before the William Canon exit on northbound 35 is a porn shop. It's been there as long as I can remember.

Alternatively, when you hit San Marcos, drive into town and hit up Gil's for a great greasy burger and some awesome cinnamon rolls.

Or just give the money to me.

Get to San Marcos, and cruise by the college - you could score some nugs.

2012-05-07 09:52:09 AM
San Marcos is a pretty cool place, like others have said.

Also, you can get a lot of Kerby Queso in Austin for $300.

You can get a lot of biatches with $300 of Kerby Queso.

biatches love Kerby Queso.

I love how America is the same everywhere.

Serious traffic question. What's the toll on Hwy 45 around Austin? I've heard it can save a lot of time to go around, but I shouldn't be hitting rush hour. Worth the toll?

That's a lot of desert that you could fill with hooker bones.

2012-05-07 09:55:00 AM
There is a great little bakery in Des Moines

/it is technically still on i-35
//driven that stretch before, rather pleasant if a bit long to do on your own

I'm not a biatch, but even I might put out for that. I hadn't been back to Texas for quite a while until last summer, and Kerby Queso was definitely on my list of "must haves" while I was there.

Depends. The toll is kind of pricey, around $1, $1.25. But whether you should take the toll depends on where you are going. I'm assuming you're heading to some where in North Austin. Mopac (loop 1) might be a better bet if you don't want to pay tolls. But, you should avoid 35 at all costs.

Nobody recommended Aquarena Springs? That place used to be a legend, but I guess it's not the same since Ralph the Swimming Pig is gone.

Kolache station, but that's out of your way.

Are the natural bridge caverns on that route? If so, I recommend that. I thought that was a cool place.

I think you underestimated the distance between San Antonio and Austin. You didn't really save $300.

Yes they are, as is the reptile park seen on an episode of Dirty Jobs.

80 miles? How would a plane trip even come into the thought process? You would save hours driving.

BurnShrike: San Marcos

Centerpoint Station right off 35 has tasty burgers.

There's also an outlet mall in San Marcos, so yay shopping?

Enough to make a trip to the airport, a wait in security, the possibility of sitting on the tarmac, and $300 a remotely good idea?

Even with the gas the tickets & car rental prices were lower at SAT. I commute an hour (1 way) to work & drive over 30k miles per year. Even I save $100 it's worth it.

TAKE THE TOLL ROAD

35 can be awful pretty much any time of day. And is full of semis.

45 is totally worth it if you're going to Round Rock.

I hate driving. I would have spent the extra money to fly directly to Austin from where ever he is coming from. Plus road trips require a minimum of $438 worth of twizzlers.

Caveat -- I assume you're in a rental car. You might get farked by the rental car company when they pass the automatic toll through to you.

Whatever you do, don't go to Barton Springs. It's the most overrated thing in Austin.

Do go to the Casino El Camino and get the green chili fries.

Stop by Twin Peaks.

Also, really nothing impressive between SA and Austin, unless you count all the outlet stores.

/stops by Buc'ees when traveling between SA and Houston though.

Save your money and blow it in Austin. Or not. You can find a lot of great things in Austin that don't cost much like Barton Springs Pool, Hippie Hollow, walk along the Colorado River, watch the bats fly from under the bridge ...

OH GOD, THEY'RE IN MY HAIR! GET THEM OUT! GET THEM OUT!
