This isn't a Jewish question.

This was about how austerity caused a double-dip recession, and the French got sick of it. Remains to be seen if they can work their way out of it, but I wish them luck.

Tatsuma: make me some tea: Je viens de faire une declaration generale...mange ma bite.

Wah, tu peux utilise Google Translate? Impressionant!

I had 3 years of French class in high school and I have been there as well and would like to see more of France because it's a fascinating country to me. I'm not conversational in French, but I speak enough to get by.

No, I don't know specifics about what it's like to be a Jew in France, nor is that really something that concerns me atm, but I am very familiar with people being reactionary about perceived dangers that may or may not exist. Example: Liberals asserting that they were going to move to Canada or Europe when Bush was reelected in 2004.

Indeed I was part of this French Jewish exodus. I left in June 2005 after a lovely two week vacation.

Tatsuma: According to the latest polls, 25% of Jews in France want to leave the country. There was an 'Immigration to Israel' fair on the same day it was confirmed that Hollande was gonna win, and more than 5,000 Jews showed up. According to the group organizing this, they never had so many people come on a single day, and so many requests by phone and email to start immigration process to Israel.

Can't they all stay at your place?

There will be a growing flight of France's best talents.

He said that straight out of the gate, he wants to raise the income tax to 'the rich' by 75%. Its going to eventually kill the economy and France is going to join Greece in terms of social unrest. Give it two to four years at most.

Tatsuma: Lucky LaRue: It's obvious. In electing a socialist, the French are directly opposing the desires of their German neighbors. You know what happened the last time France disobeyed Germany, right? And who fears the Germans more than anyone? You have to follow the *signs*, man, if you are going to get to the right conclusion!

What does Germany have to do with this?

I'm sure that has nothing to do at all with France's strict laws against public displays of non-christian religious symbology

It's kind of funny how much hair-wringing is going on about Hollande's victory. Look, he has to stick with fiscally responsible policies. He has no choice or he'll wreck France's economy and by extension, the Euro Zone. I mean, it's just crazy - it would be like the Republicans willfully trying to force the US to default on our debts in the face of all rational pleas against it.

Oh wait - that's a terrible, terrible example.

Isn't the raise only on income over a million euros? I think the 75% will end up at 40-50%, which I think will be a good thing. I imagine his rhetoric is much like politics anywhere. He talks big, but will be forced to the center on most things.

Well then, thank God the 1% of the French population who are Jews have you to speak for them. Or rather, the Orthodox ones (who I'd wager are more like .2%) who apparently think that Hollande is going to declare jihad on Jews because he has the audacity to admit there are more Muslims in France than Jews.

Well, all choices were bad, but I guess the default Sarkozy was the 'best of the worst'.

I am not a big Sarko fan at all, but the last thing France needs is what Hollande is about to unleash on them.

It's pretty much been proven that the farked chicken in this room is austerity. It's a shiatty economic policy touted by right wing morons, billionaires and the idiots that worship them. I agree with you; I think we'll see some damned interesting developments in France. This is quite the turn-a-round from the global right wing surge of 2010. I hope it spreads.

Tatsuma: Oh, fark Marine Le Pen and the fascist scumbag of a man she calls 'Papa'

I have absolutely no love for the FN, and I know that the second they were done with Muslims, they would move on to Jews.

Or well they might just start with us first, since there are less of us and well, hatred of Muslims might be their new thing, but good old anti-semitism is a classic there to stay.

Proejection. How does it work?

That's what I expect to see. It will be rough since the rich will spend more money opposing it than they would just paying the new proposed taxes, but I bet we see France improve far ahead of England, Greece, et all.

And regardless, a tax hike that high will NEVER pass. Not yet anyway. It'll be 40-50% and after the initial biatching, things will improve and everyone in Europe will follow suit.

Look, 40-50% is perfectly acceptable to me, even if it would have a negative impact on the economy, but 75% is just absolutely and completely ridiculous.

Anyone who wants to start a business and succeed will simply pack up his bags and go somewhere else.
