GBTW? Being a hilarious loudmouth is his job, he was, by definition, working when he made that statement.

Romney's economic positions are turrible.

Just like I don't listen to Ted Nugent (at all), I don't listen to Charles Barkley (for his political insights - his basketball commentary is occasionally hilarious).

That's my general take on Romney though, he seems like a nice guy on the surface. Although deep down you know he is a dick.

2012-05-07 01:01:39 PM
I don't know about "like a drum." If things go pretty much perfectly for Romney from here on out, he might narrow the margin of loss to the point where it could actually be considered a respectable showing.

Charles is a funny guy, but this shouldn't qualify for politics tab coverage any more than Sarah Palin's latest Facebook word salad should.

Dishonest article is based on dishonest survey. FTFA:

The widest gap -- 30 points -- came on a question about which political party is "generally more supportive of reducing the size of federal government." Seventy-six percent of Republicans, but only 46 percent of Democrats, correctly named the GOP.

Objectively, the greatest expansions of the federal government since LBJ occurred under Reagan and Bush Jr., while the greatest reduction occurred under Clinton. If therefore you're basing your answer on observed objective facts of reality instead of empty rhetoric, the correct answer is "the Democrats."

Other survey questions included:

"Which party wants to defeat the terrorists, and which one wants to surrender to them?"

"Which party supports a fiscally responsible balanced budget, and which one supports pointless irresponsible binge spending leading inevitably to American economic run?"

"Which party hates America just for its freedoms?"

Incredibly, say the survey authors, "those dumb liberals couldn't correctly identify the gallant Republicans and goofus Democrats on any of these issues, while Republicans were correct every time."

Eh, I don't automatically disregard somebody just because he or she is an entertainer. That said, I do disregard Ted Nugent, because the only things that come out of his mouth are hate, crazy, and Cat Scratch Fever.

I've always liked Barkley's willingness to stay whatever is on his mind. He's entertaining as hell.

This.

Although if both statements turnout to be true (Romney is beaten like a drum and Nugent kills himself because of it) I would be more than OK with that.

There shouldn't be a poll in this country with Romney doing any better than ten points behind Obama. At least, that would be the case if Americans really understood how Romney made his millions at Bain and just how often and easily (and on record he is) with changing his positions on major issues.

But let's be real here. People like Newt, Frank Luntz, and Rove's "contributions" have pretty much put the final nail in the coffin of rational political discourse. It's all about your "team" winning, no matter the cost.

/what a f*cking travesty

I had the TV on yesterday for background noise and was disappointed to see the first political attack ad of the season. It was basically calling attention to Bain and the fact that Romney has no experience and all but saying "liar liar pants on fire" concerning a few things he's said.

I can't wait for the flip-flopper "etch-a-sketch" ads.

Charles Barkley makes a good point, but on the other hand Nikki Six also has some ideas that are worthy of consideration.

I think I'll wait to see what Jack Black, Paris Hilton and the kid who used to play Urkel say before I make up my mind.

There's been an interesting twist that's developed since last year. It seemed that Obama was very beatable, and the only hope he had of beating a strong GOP candidate was if the economy improved. But they ended up with Romney, who's so weak that now he's the one who has all his chips in the economy (getting worse, of course).

I find Charles Barkley hilarious. I even thought he was funny on SNL, though inexplicably so. The jokes in and of themselves weren't that great, but something about the absurdity of it all and his utter fearlessness to go with whatever. I dunno- I laughed my ass off.

2012-05-08 01:12:06 AM
Well, since Republicans disregard the opinions of Rhodes Scholars and Nobel Prize winners, there is no reason why Barkley should not throw in his opinion.
