dittybopper: Bring back wearing swords. It used to be that no well-heeled man went out and about without a blade. In the United States, you could even make a decent case that it is your right to do so.

I'm down with wearing a kilt.

I'm also liking just a well-fitting, solid or geometric pattern v-neck shirt. Not a logo kind of t-shirt. A nice shirt, but collars and cuffs are unnecessary.

And I'm banning flip-flops and similar beachwear. Seriously. Nobody wants hear your meat-hooves slapping down the hallway.

I've never personally been comfortable wearing a suit, but I also think it's lame to say that no-one should wear 'em. Dress how the f*ck you want.

Honestly.

If I woke up tomorrow and everyone had stopped wearing suits and started wearing kilts I would be a very happy woman.

They're not very practical, you realize. I know if you're female you're used to having to carry extra bags and shiat but men traditionally don't, you know, carry that much shiat around, so a decent set of pockets for a billfold, phone, and your keys is a much better fit for the standard accessories.

And yes, I'm aware that you can put pockets in a kilt, but it doesn't really work to have your keys hammering your bollocks every time you take a step. Note that skirts with pockets aren't popular for women either.

Suits are uncomfortable.

Well, the tie part is. My head's set a little forward on te shoulders, so in order to wear a tie, I have to either get a 17 collar (which means a baggy, oversized shirt) or loosen the tie and top button (making me look like a world-weary car salesman in 1973).

A collarless tunic or Henley is the way to go for maximum comfort.

BTW, any women who say "suck it up" because they feel like *they* have to wear uncomfortable clothing SHOULDN'T BE WEARING UNCOMFORTABLE CLOTHING.

Trust me, you don't look sexy when your extremities and lower back clearly hurt from cramming yourself into clothes that shape YOU.

Back off. I love my suits. If you find it boring, you havent invested enough time, energy, or money into a fitting suit with some actual personality to it. Or you haven't joined Bow Tie Tuesday.

The inherent assumption in your statement is that because I'm wearing a sword, I'm not otherwise armed.

That's a pretty shaky assumption, don't you think?

not having to wear a suit to work saves me a lot of $$ on clothes and dry cleaning

I don't miss wearing them at all especially in the hotter months.

Really like a double windsor etc but I don't have too many occasions where I would bust them out.

I have to admit I get a kick out of seeing other guys in suits in 80+ degree heat. It helps validate the life choices i have made :)

Suits rock. If only because, unlike women, we don't have to spend hours shopping or dicking around about what to wear. They look great, go out of style slowly, last a helluva long time, and are completely transmutable with nothing more than a second shirt, tie, and shoes.

As in so many other sartorial realms, men win in dress-up clothes.

Nabb1: Try buying dress shirts In a larger neck size. If you find a tie uncomfortable, most likely the shirt is the culprit.

Pretty much blows if you have a thick neck. If the neck fits me, the rest of the shirt is big enough for serious shoplifting.

The day I need to wear a suit for work is the day I will be looking for a new job.
Plus the ladies I work with are ugly, so I don't care if they think they are sexy.

But I do like to wear them when I dress up and go out for dinner, just bought 2 suits last week.

KingoftheCheese: Suits are awesome, subby. If I could afford it, I'd have a suit for every day of the week.

Not very expensive if you only buy from thrift stores, go to a few a week and in no time you'll have a suit for every day for less then a new pair of jeans. Of course you will weed out 95 percent of the suits in order to find one you like and that fits, but that makes it more fun.

/Has a suit for every day of the week.

Anyone ever stop to consider what a suicidal garment the cape is? Look at it. It attaches AROUND YOUR NECK and the rest of it billows out behind you trying to get snagged on/in anything possible for that "Clothesline" effect.

Swords do rock, though. Gadzooks and shiat.

Got nothing against suits, just rarely have a need for one. Once, maybe twice a year. I'd like to have a good one, but it would just be a waste of money. Ties on the other hand are just silly. Threw out all of mine but one black one I occasionally need for my work uniform.
